Yuengling is one of the best bang for your buck out there. There are much better beers, but Yuengling has a great taste, color and smell and it is a very affordable beer. I often purchase large quantities of Yuengling when I am having get togethers as it seems to be pleasing to both beer snobs as well as the Bud Light drinkers.

My dad bought a few pints of these and tossed them in the fridge. I saw them in there, so I had one. Being new to beer, I didn't know that Yuengling is the oldest brewery in the United States. ANYWAY, for what matters ...

Yuengling is a completely average beer. Very drinkable and smooth, but certainly not extraordinary. I'd have it again if it was given to me.

Had not visited with this beer in some time, and so, given the limited options at BWI, what the heck...

The beer pours a light reddish amber color with fairly good head retention and light lacing. I pick up a decent amount of malty sweetness on the nose, along with some underlying earthiness and light (very light) citrus. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this light weight beer, and the finish is short and clean. It actually comes across as a light and refreshing beverage, and there are no off notes in this beer. Mouthfeel is light, and the beer has a short, crisp, refreshing finish. Low alcohol makes this a very easy beer to drink.

A nice enough beer to enjoy on warm days when one is the mood for a session of uncritical beer consumption. Not something I'd go looking for, but I wouldn't hesitate to pour myself a glass after an afternoon of chores outside in the summer, or if I was waiting for a delayed flight at the airport.

Decent but unexciting lager, certainly better and tastier than many of the big macro choices. 12 dollar (or whatever) case price makes this one an easy choice when we entertain the non-craft drinkers. Easy drinking, medium-light bodied, amply carbonated, crisp and refreshing. Mild malty aroma; taste is lightly sweet; caramel, pale malt, hints of floral hops. A bit grainy, low, restrained bitterness. You could do worse and probably have.

Thanks to Vav for tossing me one of these. I've had this many times on-tap, but never from a bottle. Served in a pilsner glass.

A - Transparent copper-gold body, with a small white foam that settles to a thin cap, leaving behind minimal lace. Lots of tiny bubbles are visible.

S - Slightly skunky hops, grassy, some bready and lightly fruity malts, touch of grain and yeast.

T - Taste has a little toffee and sweet malt character, along with a hefty dose of toasted grains and bread. A touch of hop bitterness in the finish.

M - Texture is largely smooth, with a hint of grain to it, and body is surprisingly hefty for the listed 4.4%. Chewy, with pleasant medium-low carbonation. Lightly sticky finish.

D - It's a solid Amber Lager, and a definite step up from BMC offerings. A good choice in beer wastelands and for parties with craft beer virgins. Easy to drink multiple glasses.

On-tap at Brews Brothers, Pittston, PA

A - crystal clear golden color

S - typical for style

T - Clean in beginning, slight hop presence, but off tasting adjunct beer flavor at end that lingers too long.

M - thin, cardboardy

O - could do in a pinch if it's the only thing available. the rest of the draft list at this location was filled with light this, and light that. so this was the best option

Never had this Lager till I got stationed in Johnstown, PA and it has been my choice of beer since. It has a 1-finger head from tap that is quite pleasant and moderately thick. Great from tap, good from the bottle. Must be poured into a glass from can but is definitely among the best for me

Tulip

A - really nice translucent copper, one finger off white head and no lacing

S - fruity, a bit of earth and foliage, citrus hop note, nice sweet malt and light but very nice bready yeast

T - Citrus, nice malt, barley, sweet yeast, nice fruit, light earth and a green/grassy hop note

M - Medium minus body, well balanced, medium minus complexity, low acidity and a long sweet bready and grainy finish

D/O - This is very refreshing, drinks like a charm and tastes better than any lager we can get around here. As far as bigger breweries go. Wish I could get this at my bottle shop

Final thoughts - Not sure the cost a very low abv, but a great taste and very, very nice

A: Pours a clear amber in color with light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall white head that reduces to a thin film over the entire surface of the beer with a slightly thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate lacing is observed.

S: Light aromas of caramel and brown sugar contribute to the sweetness in the smell. There is a heavy aroma of generic maltiness and some light notes of grassy hops.

T: The taste is very similar to the smell with light amounts of malty sweetness. There is a subtle hint of the grassy hops in the flavor as well. Very little bitterness.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation.

O: Probably one of the better mass production beers and likely what I would choose at a largely BMC place or a venue like a wedding/conference where there is little craft beer available. Definitely a sessionable beer.

Poured a bottle of this into a pilsener glass. I've been looking forward to this beer for a long time. Living in MN, I had to specially order this online to get it to me. So far, worth the price.

A: 1 finger head that dissipates quickly, very feint lacing.

S: Very feint smell of caramel-sweet hops. A wheat smell with a touch of sugar. I'm sure it would have been stronger if this was on tap.

T: Just a light touch of hops, which is good for me. Slightly sweet and a hint of caramel.

M/D: Very clean, crisp, drinkable.

O: Amazing. There isn't anything that truly sets it apart, but there is not a single thing about this beer that is bad. It is an easy, simple, drinkable beer, which is sometimes a great thing. The most versatile beer in the world, I could drink this anytime, anywhere.

Yuengling is the beer that got me away from nasty light beers. Ive had about every major Lager based beer brewed in the US and Yuengling is certainly the favorite. The fact that they have remained family owned since the beginning says a lot about their passion. Living in PA, its everywhere. Its fairly cheap, and tons of sizes to choose from.

Its a very easy drinking beer. Ill drink this for parties and such. Certainly more taste and better appearance than other large US lagers. Green bottles don't tend to be an issue. Especially in PA where you by most your stuff by the case anyway. It dont last long on the shelves. Very consistent beer that is always available for a good price. My go to lager for sure. This is the type of beer you fill up your largest glass with and see how quick you can get it down. Cheap, but tasty!

12oz bottle poured into a pilsner glass
A couple random strings of numbers but nothing that resembles a bottled or best before date

A: Pours a transparent quintessential amber color with just over 1 fingers width of light kakhi head.  Head dissipates at a moderate rate down to a thin film.  Lots of carbonation bubbles can be seen rising to the top of the glass. Leaves only the faintest spotty lacing.

S: Sweet malts, caramel, some spicey hops, and a hint of earthy/grassy notes.

T: Follows the nose.  Again rather sweet with caramel malts, balanced with a bit of hop spice.  A touch of hop bitterness.  Not a lot going on but actually really tasty.

M/D: Clean and crisp.  One the light side of medium bodied with a heavy but appropriate carbonation.  Great drinkability.

O: What can I say, I have a soft spot for Yuengling, which has been my  go to beer since long before I discovered the world of craft beer.  It's tasty, highly drinkable, cheap and available everywhere.  It's far and away the best of the American Macros, and is actually my favorite beer in certain situation (tailgates, cook outs, paired with the hottest chicken wings you can find).  I'll probably drink this beer til the day I die.

Sampled April 2012 from bottles in pint glass.

Appearance: Medium deep color, light head that is typical for a lager.

Smell: Mild aromas, slightly sweet.

Taste: Medium-bodied with nice balance of malt and hops and sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, and very smooth.

Overall: Great lager for everyday drinking. I have drank this lager in many placed and both in bottles and on-tap, and it has been consistently good. I enjoy porters and stout more, but this is a great and consistent alternative.

Hands down the best beer ever. I've had countless microbrews and domestics and there is no contest; Yuengling has the best drinkability and flavor of any beer available in the United States. If anyone rates this beer less than a 5 they're a beer snob and you should dismiss their opinion and try it for yourself.

I got a bottle of Yuengling's Traditional Lager that my brother brought back from his trip down south. I have been wanting to try this beer for a while, but it isn't available in MI so I was happy my bro brought one back for me to try, so lets see how it goes. No visible bottling date. Poured from a dark green 12oz bottle into a imperial pint glass.

A- The label looks good, it for sure has a classic and traditional look to it. It poured a darker then normal golden color that was pretty clear and it took on more of a brighter amber/gold color when held to the light with two and a half fingers worth of fluffy white head that died down to a thin layer that stayed till the end. This is a good looking lager, I was expecting a traditional yellow lager, but when I poured it I looked at the style and it said it was a Red Lager so since that is the style they were going for I thought the color looked nice and it was a nice change from the usual yellow lager, the head was also pretty nice.

S- The aroma is pretty simple and straight forward, it starts off with some some malts that impart a grainy and slightly brown bread aroma followed by a little bit of corn and some slight toasted aromas. After that I get a slight yeasty and woody aroma, with no hops showing up. This was a good smelling Lager, there were no off or unwanted aromas.

T- The taste seemed to follow the aroma nicely and started off with some malts that have a little bit more sweetness than normal and impart some light toasted and caramel flavors along with some grainy, brown bread, bread crust, and a light amount of corn. Towards the end I pick up a slight bit of yeast and a light amount of earthy hops that help bring a little balance to the flavor. The flavors was good, it was clean, simple, and pretty well done, no complaints.

M- Very smooth, clean, crisp, on the fuller part of being light bodied, with a good amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel was good and it worked well with this beer, the slightly thicker then average body was a nice change.

Overall I liked this beer and I thought it was a good Red Lager, it had some good simple flavors while keeping the clean flavors and high drinkability of an AAL. This beer had great drinkability, it went down really smooth, it was also crisp and refreshing, I could see drinking more then a few of these while doing some grilling in the summer, a very drinkable beer, as any good lager should be. What I liked most about this beer was pretty much everything, all aspects of this beer were pretty on par for a Red Lager. What I liked least about this beer was the slightly higher amount of sweetness and that it came in a green bottle, but those two things weren't really a big deal and hardly affect my overall score. I would buy this beer pretty often if it was available in Michigan, but since it isn't I can only get some when I or someone I know takes a trip down south. I highly recommend this to just about anyone, just a good drinkable Lager. Yuengling makes a pretty good Lager, now I see why this beer is so popular, I know that if I could buy this in MI I would probably have this in the fridge at all times, especially in the summer. I would really like to see Yuengling come to MI and I am pretty interested in trying their other beers, I hope to drink some more soon, this is one solid Lager.

Poured from a green 12oz bottle sent to me by JZeilinger. The whale of all whales!

A: Pours a nice light amber with a lively off-white head. Head recedes to some wisps on the surface.

S: Typical AAL aroma. Faint sourish grain and corn. A little bit of chalky yeast.

T: Opens with a pleasing wave of coarse grain and some slightly bitter hops. Smooths out into a strong and pleasant nuttiness, and a bit of a rice-like taste, which evolves into some more subtle spicy hoppiness and grain. Ever-so-slight hop bitterness returns in the finish. Grain lingers.

M: Slightly thicker than the usual mass-produced lagers. Almost medium-bodied.

O: Delivers in the appearance and taste. I can see why it has such a hold in its region. Not bad at all.

A - A clear orange amber color with about a solid inch of head but no lacing

S - There wasn't a lot of smell, but there were some distinct roasted notes and a clean citrus grain smell.

T - There is some sweetness that mixes its way in (carmel? cherry? citrus?). You notice mostly the roasted barely but there are some nice clean hops as you swallow and the aroma reaches you.

M - Very smooth, and has a good clean feel to it.

O - I love this beer, but not because it stays true to a particular category of beer. It's not a "Traditional Lager" but it's also not just a "Red Ale". It takes the parts of each that it likes and makes a unique brew that packs a surprisingly deep character not often found in mass marketed beers.

This is probably one of the best of the "green bottled beers."

In a pint glass (later noted in a pilsener):

A: red/copper colored body with a one finger white head that quickly fades and leaves a decent lacing

S: grains and malt

T: slightly sweet through above flavors

M: medium, sessionable, some harshness on the tongue, no aftertaste or finish

O: Yuengling in general is a good company with what I've had by them over the years. This traditional lager is a good beer I always enjoy with pizza

Reviewed from notes. Had on tap yesterday at an Irish Pub in Midtown Manhattan.

A: Pours a clear orange copper. Weak head and lacing.

S: fairly strong. Woody, cherry.

T: Smoky, lagery, woody, cherry. Decent but weak and a tad dull.

M: A tad syrupy and undercarbonated.

O: I expected better from the oldest US brewery. Only bought it cause the choices were limited, and probably wouldn't buy it again.

1147th Review on BA
Draft to Pint

@Tampa Bay Waterside Marriot

App- A very dark orange with a mid brown center. A small 1/2 finger of head that was off white in color with some spotty cling.

Smell- This was very crisp and clean. Good lager notes but a bit more malty as it should with style. Full and a bit rich with citrus.

Taste- It's a lager or a red ale? Has both qualities split down the middle. More smooth than traditional but has lager notes and more of a body but still retains citrus red ale malts.

Mouth- Medium bodied and medium carbonation with a full malt residual flavor.

Drink- For what this is, its a very nice beer. Smooth, rich and flavorful. Like a Fat tire but better.

Served in pint glass

Appearance – Served a golden amber color with a medium white head. The head faded fast and gave way to little to no lacing.

Smell – The aroma is very faint. There is a slight roast malt and a little bit of corn and caramel aroma.

Taste- The taste is a mix of corn and a little roasted malt that persist the entire time. Up front a small amount of bitterness is detected, mainly roasted malt flavor in nature, but an ever so lighter bitter hop flavor is there as well. Toward the end, there is a light caramel flavor that works it way in, which with the malt and corn, finish the taste.

Mouthfeel – Medium to light bodied with an average level of carbonation. Nothing special.

Overall – It is very good for its price, but overall nothing really too spectacular. A good cheaper session or tailgating brew.

A: A very orange-tan color. Clear, with a nice amount of dirty white head on the top.

S: Sweet smelling with a touch of a husky/ flour smell. There is a light fruitiness from the yeast, and perhaps a touch of vegetable.

T: Light malt flavors, with a touch of a cracker thing going on. There is almost a hint at being peppery in the finish. The finish is light and slightly fruity.

M: Medium thin on the body, with somewhat higher carbonation, although I think it fits with the style.

O: Overall I think this beer stands out because of it’s price, and it is somewhat bolder tasting than many of it’s contemporaries.

Aroma: Lager yeast and malt are first in the nose. There are some flowery hops in the smell, but they won’t be detected by hop heads. All I smell is Cluster and no Cascade.

Appearance: This beer is a medium copper color and pours a medium head that lingers just a bit leaving a few touches of lace.

Flavor: The taste of this beer is dominated by caramel malt and grain. It is backed up by the Cluster hops, but they are clearly the junior partner in this beer’s palate. The hops blend into a smooth and dry finish.

Mouthfeel: The body is medium, but doesn’t interfere with the dry finish.

Overall Impression: This beer is an American version of a German domestic Oktoberfest or Vienna lager. It is very drinkable without being boring, maybe not as crisp as some would like in hot weather.

Comments: This is a very good beer that fits into many occasions. When you consider that this beer sales for less than any AB product, it is usually the best buy in any store you go into. Yuengling Traditional Lager is an overall excellent value and it is the beer that I usually recommend to budmillercoors drinkers as a transition to real beer.
