Rat and Hum is now my favorite bar in the city. They have a great beer selection, decent food and a great after work crowd. The staff really know their beer and treat their customers well. The bartenders are great if you aren't familiar with craft beers and will help you pick out a beer if you are new to the whole scene.
They do brewery tours and brewery nights, where they invite a brewery or two in and put all their beers on tap and have the brew master taking questions from us regulars. They also have a mug club that forces you to try 40 different varieties of beer in 30 days...some of them are awful (kasteel rouge) and some of them are beers I never would've tried but ended up loving. Your reward for your dedication? An engraved mug that only you can drink from and discounts on every beer you drink.
overall a great place for awesome beer!!

One of the places my GF and I hit up on my NY trip. This place was PACKED but luckily we found a spot for 2 tucked away in the back.
Atmosphere is a 3 because it's SO loud and crowded.
Beer: I thought the tap list was pretty stacked here. We were able to try a couple different beers and I think we could've gone the whole night without drinking the same beer twice. They do not have crap on tap here, and that's clearly stated on their menu so don't come here if you want $1 Coors draft beers and the like.
Service: As mentioned above, this place was ridiculously packed, and I doubt you'd ever find a bar that packed here in the OC but the service here is seriously on point. It seemed like they had 2 bartenders/waitresses running the back area and effortlessly tending to what seemed like 50+ people. Bars in the OC need to learn how to provide service like the waitresses/bartenders here.
Food: No comment since we didn't order food.
Price: Pints are priced very aggressively here if you ask me. I was expecting to pay $10+ for every pint in NY but that wasn't the case at all.
Conclusion: I will definitely be recommending this joint and will be returning on my next NY trip.

I love this place because of the tap and bottle list. You can venture away from the heavily tourist infiltrated streets of NYC to this hidden gem. Well, for most beer lovers of NYC, this place isn't hidden.
Even though my favorite bar tender has moved to Beer Authority, the staff is always great and receptive to each customer and is willing to assist you in finding the beer that fits your mood.
Be prepared to go through the entire bottle and tap list to search for the best deal, as well as the best find. This place has some hidden treasures if you are willing to look or try something new. I highly recommend this place for the beginner or intermediate beer taster. This place has something for you.
My absolute favorite aspect about this bar are the happy hour specials and the kick the keg specials; select drafts for $5. Oh and I forgot about the amazing March Madness Challenge, look it up, you won't be disappointed.
If you have a chance to head over to 33rd and 6th avenue area this is a stop you must make or go a few blocks north to another great spot called The Ginger Man.

Great bartenders (Jackie!) and the rest of the team know their crafts. Fully stocked bar of 50+ Crafts on tap along with an extensive bottle selection but if you go for bottles at anytime other than Happy Hour you will pay a significant premium ($2 off bottles during happy hour) and a decent group of 5-7 crafts at $5 during happy hour till 6pm. They have a diverse craft menu that avoids the trappings of lower end brews for solid rotations of offerings from top craft breweries including Firestone Walker, Stone, Harpoon, Widmer, Cigar City, Bear Republic, etc. They also own Beer Authority on 40th and 8th but I like this place better.
A diverse mix of DIPA, IPA, Stouts, Lagers, Ales, Porters, Saisons, etc. They tend to have a great selection of nearly 40 plus always an interesting Cask.
Their pours vary depending on the ABV from 8oz for the Stone Farkin wOOtstout tonight to 12 and 16 oz.
Actually a decent place to watch the Sunday NFL as they have Sunday Ticket and a decent number of sets spaced throughout plus great wings at 50 cents on Sundays and a decent menu.
Situated on 33rd Street in Midtown, its a street under perpetual construction.
