Appearance. Pours a deep red-orange-brown with a pale pink-tan head.

Smell. Dark berries and cherries, some nice musty funk and a little raspberry vinegar.

Taste. Sour cherry and raspberry, quite sour and a little tart, some wood and funk that lingers. Pretty awesome stuff.

Mouthfeel. Medium+ body, strong carbonation.

Overall. Amazing sour, one of the best I've had.

The Lost Abbey

This pours just slightly darker than the color of smashed raspberries, with a 2+ fingers dark khaki colored head that lasts and lasts. This leaves messy lacing down the glass. A spectacularly gorgeous beer. The dark crimson raspberry color of this beer is stunning. It's gorgeous.

A powerful, engrossing, and delightful aroma. Both Red Poppy and Framboise Amarosa shine through here. There's tons of authentic, bright, juicy raspberries along with good amounts of red wine, earth, dirt, and oak character. Fantastic.

The flavor too shines, and is nearly perfect. I wanted to give this a perfect score. This is a wonderful combination of juicy raspberries, cherries, oak, red wine, earth, and oak, with lots of strong sour character. At colder temperatures, there's just the slightest bit of sulfur/plastic on the finish, but it disappears as the beer warms. That being said, I couldn't quite give it a perfect score.

Medium bodied with high carbonation. Finally, Lost Abbey nails this department in one of their one-off beers!

Simply wonderful. This ranks with Duck Duck Gooze and Cable Car as the best Lost Abbey sours I've had.

Bottle at Lost Abbey.

A: Bottle opens with a pop and the beer begins to slowly rise up toward the mouth. Magenta with a pink frothy head that lingers for some time. Very attractive beer.

S: Leathery and earthy. Exceptional fruit aroma. Bright raspberry and cherry with firm tart and lactic notes. Vanilla blends with oak and soft musty characteristics. There's a light mushroom quality.

T: Bursting with raspberries and tart cherries: seed and skin, pit and flesh. Oak blends with vanilla and mellow tannins. There's a moderate lactic sourness with a bit of yogurt character. Outstanding fruit flavor. There's a pleasant acetic acidity throughout and in the mouth watering piquant fruity finish.

M: Medium body with high carbonation. The mouthfeel is sticky and tannic with a nice acidity.

Overall: Reminds me of a blend of the first batch of Framboise and the early batches of Red Poppy. Exceptional fruit sour.

Served alongside Red Poppy and Framboise de Amorosa.

Pours a gorgeous, hazy reddish-purple ruby with a fluffy off-white head. Smell is phenomenal! Fruit just hits you over the head at first, but there's a nice amount of oak, wine and sourness lurking behind it. Flavor isn't quite as amazing as the smell, but it's still damn good. Raspberries dominate at first, but it's got a nice tart tannic finish. Flavor is amazingly bright and impressive. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with nice carbonation. Overall, this beer is fantastic - probably the best of the Box Set series so far, just a hint above Track 3. It blows its base beers out of the water.

Draft at Monk's Cafe in Philadelphia, PA.

Pours a very hazy and dark blood red color with purple/plum hues and a two finger,  light pink head that slowly settles into a thin ring.  Streaks of lace left behind.

Funky aroma with a nice lactic presence along with dry toasted oak and a blast of luscious berries.  Very fruit forward with jammy raspberry, currant and other vinous fruits. Funky bugs/barnyard character counter the fruit sweetness and there's a subtle acetic character as well.

Fuller bodied than expected and really complex with lots of musty bugs, earthy oak, lactic funk and vinous dark berries.  Luscious raspberry bursting forth making it seedy and jammy along with some chery and currant.  Dry with nice acidity and lactic funk.  Subtle acetone quality but not harshly solvent or over the top.  Really complex and insanely drinkable.  Very impressive.

Bottle poured into a GI tulip. Part of NWI tasting New Year's Day

A - Dark, raspberry color. Looks like juice with a slight haze to it. There is lots of carbonation but no head

S - Big, jammy raspberries make up the most of this nose. You also get a slight oak and lemon as well. This is one of the noses that you just want to keep smelling because it is great

T - Tart lemon and light oak come up first. There is slight vinegar and then lots of raspberries that come in as well. This finish is slightly tart with even more raspberry jam coming in the finish

MF - Medium body with lots of carbonation. Finish is dry with the oak and lemon

O - This is a great beer and the best track I've had to date. There is just so much raspberry flavor. The one great thing is that you get both tartness and jammy sweetness from the raspberries. There is a lot of flavor, nice complexity, and great nose

Pours a muddy red color with a fleeting white head. The nose is outstanding. Bright, jammy acidic fruit with a ton of raspberry and cherry. The barrel brings a big vanilla note. Similar on the palate, huge juicy fruit flavors with slightly more raspberry than cherry. Nice vanilla and oak notes in the finish. A phenomenal fruit sour.

A: lots of color into the glass mostly a brown with reddish hues and dark crimson highlights that had a nice frothy half finger of head that left good lacing sticking to the glass.

S: wonderful fruity bouquet upfront in the aroma filled with fresh raspberries, cherries, and strawberry notes, but with nice bretty funk, some acidic character, oakiness showing it face and vinous wine barrel notes.

T: like the nose it had a very delicious fruit forward tart cherry raspberry flavor bursting through on the first sip alongside great oaky accents, vinous wine barrel character which added some dimension and some acidic notes.

M: the brew was medium in body with a good amount of carbonation which had a fruity, oaky, mild acidic, vinous sour and slight dry finish.

O: definitely one of my favorite from the box set and well balanced all around. Glad I got to try this sour fruit bomb.

Lost Abbey track beer tasting.

Very excited to try this one, as I am a big fan of both beers used in this blend.

The beer appears lavender hued with an oily beige head. The beer smells fantastic! Raspberries and Lost Abbey funk. A nice blend of the two beers, with the Framboise playing the lead role. Sufficient tartness in the finish, with a lingering assortment of berries. Nice feel. Effervescent and tangy with spritzy carbonation. A dem fine beer, I say.

Bottle shared thanks to starrdogg from an awesome trader in CA! Tried in order with all tracks in the series. This is a very strong beer from the series, if this ever makes an appearance again I'll be looking for it.

It looks awesome with a dark deep crimson and purple color with some decent head (for a wild) and a ring.

The smell is amazing, one of the better smells in all beer I had smelled in a long time. Has a great fruit bouquet (cherry, raspberry, wine grapes) and great mellowing oaky vanilla overtones. Exceptional.

The taste is raspberry forward for my palate and ends with nice cherry notes as well, the beers used to mix seem to compliment each other well. Lots of fresh fruit and the barrel too. For me, there was slight medicinal aftertaste that nobody else in the tasting group got, but I did and it detracted a bit for me.

The feel is good, but just slightly thin for me. A very nice offering.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours a murky red with no head. No lacing on the drink down either. Smell is sour and tart with raspberry jam and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with a fruity berry flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with some great fruity aromas and flavors.

Huge thanks to ehammond1 for making this happen. Served in a Lost Abbey teku.

Pours a light brown with a mild reddish hue to it. The initial pink-hued head fades pretrty quickly into a thin collar around the edges of the glass.

The nose has some cherry and a bit of raspberry. Neither is nearly as strong as the fruit character from Box Set Track #7. Some additional earthiness in the background. Acidity is mostly lactic with just a very mild touch of acetic.

Flavor is earthy and mildly sour. Quite a bit of cherry skin. Moderate raspberry character underneath. Faint hints of black raspberry. Could use a bit more depth.

Mouthfeel is light-medium with an appropriate amount of acidity and carbonation. Very dry finish. Ever so slight tannins.

Again, very nice, but nothing out of control.

Pours a muddy ruby brown with a transient like pink head. Nose is fruity and lactic acidic with some seedy raspberry and tart cherry. Fruit is mild and earthy. Flavor is less fruity than the nose, with a strong earthy and chocolate malt like background under light acidity and earthy fruit seeds and skin. Medium light body with low carbonation, pleasantly sour in the finish but not too intense. Sufficient.

12.7 brown caged and corked bottle, no freshness date.

Muddled rusty burgundy hue, no head ... not much for lace either. Strawberries, raspberries, raw honey, tart, musty, parsnips, and funk make for a pretty complex and at least interesting nose. Very sour, both raspberry and cherry are present. Lots of fresh oak, estery, faint cracker maltiness, slightly sweet and very sour. Wood dryness envelopes the finish.

Love it or hate it aspects to this brew, smell and taste ... I am all for it. Look and feel, not much of a fan. Very lambic-like. Each sip is a bit more fun to take on.

Taste: Tart attack, raspberries, sour cherries, okay, tannic, lemony, fruity, jammy, pithy, earth, hay, bone dry

Very fruited Lambic-like. Aroma and flavor are solid. Not much to look at and it lacks effervescence, but I dig it.
