Sensational mellow boatload of flavors. On tap at Churchill Cigar Lounge in Old Town.
Black and velvety in the tulip. Lots of lacing and a handsome beige foam that persists to the last sip. Sprightly on the tongue, with the carbonation mingling with the hot alcohol.
Really sweet and boozy, but kept in check by the hoppiness. Not too bitter, not too woody. Tastes exactly like a whiskey barrel. Huge dark roasted malt flavor with the alcohol scratching at your throat. Sweet and glowering flavor, rich and buttery, endlessly rewarding sipping. The tap version was listed as 10.9% but who knows.

This poured out as a deep black color with a thin tan head on top. The retention is minimal with a touch of scattered lacing. The smell of the beer is boozy, fruity, wooden, vanilla and bourbon. The taste reflects the nose, rich flavors of roasted malts and caramel in there as well. Subtle vanilla in the finish. The mouthfeel is creamy smooth and oily, moderate carbonation. Overall it's very good, really eligant flavors and te mouthfeel is impressive. Well worth the price of admission.

Enjoyed this on tap at the Local Option in Chicago, IL served in a 10oz snifter.
A - The room was dark so I apologize if the color is off. It did look like a dark black murk, full finger of mocha head, and good lacing.
S - Sweet bourbon, chocolate, toffee, vanilla and aged fruit...maybe dates.
T - Initially: Chocolate, bourbon and toffee. Finish had some booze, slight hops but a mostly a coffee flavor. 12.5ABVs hidden very well.
M - Not as thick as you'd imagine. Low carbonation, high viscosity, creamy but not the ultra cream/velvet feel.
O - Very nice. But this beer had me confused. Maybe for the good, maybe for the bad depending how you look at it. This brew is very hard to classify. Has the look, smell and taste of an Imperial Stout. But the not yet the feel of one but more of an dark ale. Only beer I've had of its kind is Bell's BA Batch 9000. Both blur the lines between beer classification. Did wish there was more of the aged fruit flavor. Didn't taste much, or any at all.

On tap at fresh craft in denver 3/1/13
A: murky dark brown with sticky lacing. Long lasting tan head. Looks like used engine oil
S: a mix of barrel aged spirits. Super boozy. Bourbon, brandy, rum, scotch, you name it, they're all here. Some roast and chocolate come out as it warms
T: more booze up front. I'm tempted to add an ice cube it's so much like scotch. It's oily and thicker, but really boozy. Lots of caramel sweetness comes out too. It also has a ton of honey and figs. That flavor seems to always come out in aged, slightly oxidized strong ales. The booze is slightly overpowering for me.
M: thick, oily, coating. Lots of residual sugar here.
O: I love both beers individually, but this is a bourbon bomb. A little less alcohol and barrel character would bring this one in my own personal tolerance. Glad to try it, but once is prob. Good.

On tap at Beer Authority.
A - Served a very dark brown with a few dark tan bubbles clinging to the edges. A few streaks of lacing form.
S - Bourbon, oak, chocolate.
T - Strong bourbon and sweet dark chocolate. Some nice barrel characteristics. A little toasted-burnt-bitterness in the finish.
D - Heavy body with medium carbonation.
O - Nice bourbon barrel stout. Drinks very easy for 12.5%

Had on tap at Chucks:
A: Pours extremely dark brown with a small tan head that reduces very quickly forming a small ring on top. No lacing.
S: A bit of booze right away, leads to some vanilla and brandy aromas mixed with brown sugar and molasses. Faint roasted malt.
T: Rather similar to the aroma. A bit more chocolate with some vanilla, oak, and brandy.
M: Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Slight warming as it goes down.
O: Quite nice, better than expected with the track record I have had with the darker LA beers.

awesome stuff. 2011 vintage on tap at falling rock taphouse in lodo. the pour on this is jet black, no light passing through at all. two fingers of coffee colored head rest on top and dont go anywhere. alcohol is a dominant smell, tons and tons of bourbon, the charcoal, vanilla, and booze are really intense. big roasty malt body like the serpent, and a certain barleywine style sweetness. this is sure to be a mammoth beer. first taste is not surprisingly, bourbon. cant believe how strong it is. nice dark roast to nearly burnt barley going on, with some coffee and cocoa notes, as well as an almost fruity sort of instance that just arises for a second before being overcome by more high alcohol flavors. this is highly refined, but its also highly punishing. certainly all of 12.5%! massively rich body, thick and sludgey but it a good way, feels like a stout to me, albeit a gigantic one. still there is enough carbonation to keep the flavors moving slowly by. this is delicious stuff, a real treat. its not the bourbon barrel angels share, but its close. simply fantastic, but one or two is about all any reasonable human being can probably handle.

Pours a viscous black with a very small amount of mocha colored foam that eventually settles down to a thin cap of nothingness with some solid lacing.
Aromas begin with a large amount of oaky vanilla and a solid amount of both dark and semi-sweet bakers chocolate notes. The roasted, almost charred maltiness emerges as it warms along with the booziness from the multiple barrels involved in the aging process.
The tastes begin with sweet and bitter chocolate flavors along with more oak and vanilla. The spirit and subtle flavors of roasted malts provide a solid balance to the sweetness. There is plenty of caramel and brown sugar present throughout.
The mouthfeel is medium to full boided with a lower amount of carbonation. Finish is a bit boozy and aggressive from the roasted maltiness and the multiple barrel aging process
Overall I think this is a nice offering from Lost Abbey but it just isn't my cup of tea. The two beers I feel are better by themselves and really don't mesh in a harmonious fashion for me. While it is definitely not a bad beer, I just don't think I have the need to venture out and purchase it with the inflated price tag, but finding it on draft is more than reasonable and worth a go for sure.

Amazing nose and flavor of chocolate, bourbon, sherry, cherries, brandy, toffee, fig, date, raisin, sandalwood, and coffee. Beautifully balanced with almost no carbonation, but a voluptuous mouthfeel that is coating, and helps the finish to last incredibly long.
I'm a moderate fan of Serpent Stout, and only a marginal fan of The Angel's Share, but this blend is absolutely fantastic!

This had everything I like: Imperial, Dark, roasted, ABV, and Bourbon.
It graced us with its presence at West End and Backcountry Pizza and Taphouse in Boulder in Spring 2012. Pure awesome. I gave an average rating for "mouthfeel" because I don't remember. I'm not even sure I know what that means.
This beer is in my top 5%. I actually thought Lost Abbey's Angel Share was even better (the Bourbon barrel version) so it isn't a surprise I loved this. Deliverance is part Angel's Share and part Serpent's Stout.

First had: on tap at Barcade, Philly, PA
Served in a snifter, a thick black pour with a thin cap of chocolate head that dwindled to a ringlet. Creamy chocolate and vanilla on the aroma, smooth bourbon, caramel, minor vinous notes. Taste thick with dark malts, chocolate, a moderate roastiness, bourbon-soaked wood, vanilla, lesser notes of fruitcake brandy, brown sugar, tobacco. Smooth and dangerously mellow, and a bit too drinkable for a higher octane brew. Yummy.

On-tap at Acre for Faux-BAB.
Pours black with brown highlights and medium brown head.
Aroma of bourbon, wood, and some dark fruits.
Upfront taste is heavy on bourbon with a light roasted malt base, a little chocolate, and dark fruits. Blast of bourbon and wood dominate the finish.
Full bodied and syrupy with low to medium carbonation. Sticky finish with decent alcohol heat.
Very barrel-forward. Glad to see that it came carbonated. Not too complex as the bourbon overwhelms a lot of the flavors and aromas, but very enjoyable. If this wasn't so expensive in bottle format, I'd stock up on it.

T: very rich and deep tones. Has a high amount of noticeable
alcohol taste.
M: medium, but with a high viscosity and fairly chewy.

Stumbled upon this at the new Lucky Pie Pizza in Denver. Who knew that a random Lost Abbey tap handle would hide such wonders?
Arrived a dark brown color with amber highlights. Both of my glasses came with a decent head that not only stuck around, but left a heady trail as I had more.
The flavor profile is pretty stunning. It’s a bit like a barleywine and stout crossed with some bourbon barrel notes thrown in for good measure. Caramel and slightly roasty flavors give way to coconut, rum, and vanilla flavors from the bourbon. One sip seems like a big stout, and the next is like a barrel aged barleywine. Pretty amazing beer.
Not much wrong here, although that pretty crazy 12.5% ABV can catch up to you quickly. I had 2 glasses and there was pretty much no doubt I’d had something potent when I left.
Highly, highly recommended.

The exceptional Deliverance pours an opaque black, with a thin tan head that dissipates rather quickly, yet manages to leave a decent lace throughout. A dark bouquet of deep roasted nuts, chocolate, coffee, and alcohol intermingle with hints of bourbon and brandy, a truly interesting playground for the senses. The flavors of this beer are as numerous and complex. Many of the same aromas are found in tasting, as well as hints of fig, plums and dates. The alcohol is big at 12.5%, and a slight burn is noticeable in the finish. The strong and complex brew features a creamy, big body that is dominant over a low level of carbonation. WOW!

on tap at the khyber in philly
Pours a viscous blacked out color with a nice, thick crop of tanned head resting on top. Retains nicely, while leaving a layer of film on the beer with some spots of lacing on the glass.
Boozy and warm in the nose with plenty of rich bourbon and brandy scents. The brand angel's share is clearly present here, along with touches of vanilla, oak and leather. Some coffee and chocolate tones add in from the serpent's stout as well.
Begins fairly boozy as expected, but with plenty of malty textures to temper the alcohol. Caramel with bread crust and brown sugar swirl with a mixture of coffee and chocolate. The two beers pair pretty well together, although the barrel character from the angel's share clearly outshines the serpent's stout. Plenty of oaky vanilla mixed with bourbon and brandy, followed by a light touch of smoke. Finishes warm and full with some residual brandy flavor.
Full bodied, lower carbonation (no, it's not flat), very creamy and slick on the tongue. I've had both of the base beers more than once and this is a nice marriage between the two. I still think my favorite of these LA offerings is the bourbon angel's share, but then again it always depends on what vintage you get.

A: Pours a viscous dark brown/nearly black color with pretty much no head to speak of at all.
S: Awesome notes of bourbon, brown sugar, caramel, chocolate cake and some faint dark fruit. Amazing stuff.
T: Opens on the sweet side with some raisin bread, vanilla, fudge and dark fruit and then dries out and finishes with some burnt raisin, roasted malt and glorious bourbon. A great warming sensation with every sip without feeling too hot. This is without a doubt my favorite Lost Abbey beer to date.

On tap at the ColLAboration beer fest at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours an opaque dark brown/black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. No lacing on this one. Smell is of vanilla, wood, bourbon, and brandy. Taste is very much the same with some dark roasted malt and cocoa flavors. There is an alcohol kick that warms the back of the throat with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is very tasty and left me wanting more.

Nice to see this on-tap, just like Angel's Share, so much better paying $6 for a snifter than $18 for a possibly flat 375ml...
Pours just about black, some red highlights. Tan head starts at about a finger and retains decently for a while, eventually becoming a thin ring, pretty good for the ABV though.
Awesome, decadent smell...rich chocolate cake smothered in raspberry sauce and bourbon, a bit boozy but not a bother, great strength as well.
Taste is of similar greatness -- lots of delicious, fudgy chocolate brownie, caramel malts, dark fruits (jammy in a way), bourbon, oak, some vanilla. Much boozier than the scent unfortunately which drags it down a bit. Somehow well-balanced, but huge.
Mouthfeel is certainly hot, but the balance, smoothness and carbonation are well-done.
Somehow this blend of stout, strong ale, bourbon barrel and brandy barrel turns into an excellent concoction, the flavors from each entity are there and huge. The booze makes this a slow sipper for sure, I'm sure it would benefit from some aging.

I've had this beer a bunch of different times, on draft and out of the bottle. Figured I might as well finally review this while it's current on-tap at my house. Poured from the kegerator into a Bruery tulip. 2010 vintage.
A - Pours black, mocha-colored head, thin film on top, spotty lace, thick collar.
S - Big chocolate, both milk and dark, booze, vanilla, brownies, and oak. Still pretty boozy, even after a year and and half worth of age, but it's definitely smoothed out since it was fresh. Very sweet, reminds me of a rich dessert.
T - Chocolate syrup on top of chocolate brownies with a small side of bourbon. There's a touch of oak and vanilla in there as well. The alcohol bite makes the finish bitter and boozy, yet still remaining somewhat sweet.
M - Full, rich and smooth, good carbonation, creamy finish. Even after almost two years, this one is still quite boozy. That said, it's really smoothed out since I had it fresh, and it's definitely more enjoyable now then ever. I think another year will do this some more good...might be perfect by then!

On tap, 2012 release, poured into a snifter. Beer pours a dark mahogany brown, opaque, with a finger of tan color creamy head. Minimal head retention as it dissipated to a thin film, with a few spots of lacing. A few bubbles of carbonation at the edge of the glass.
Nose is sweet chocolate, leather, tobacco, dark caramel, coffee, with some earthy, nutty, and woody aromas. Even cool on the initial pour, there was a nice balanced aroma to the beer, though a bit of the alcohol heat came through as the beer warmed.
Taste follows the nose, sweet chocolate and the leather and tobacco upfront, with some bitter coffee and burnt caramel flavors following. Earthy barrel flavors come through mid tongue, with some sweeter vanilla notes. Lingering sweet chocolate and bourbon flavors on the tongue.
Full body with minimal carbonation, maybe a bubble of carbonation pricking the tongue here and there. Not too syrupy though, mainly creamy and slightly chewy. A bit of alcohol warmth on the back of the throat, but still very drinkable for big beer. I'm not a big fan of the brandy Angel's Share, but this blend with a bourbon barrel aged Serpent's Stout was enjoyable.

The Trappist. Pitch black, oily, no head no lacing, slight carbonation.
Thick rich marvelous aroma. Sweet, a multitude of dark fruits, tiny chocolate, toffee all enveloped in a bourbon cloud. Funny how a smell can be sensed as thick.
The bourbon resides in the beginning, mid taste and aftertaste, it completely defines the brew. All the scent tastes are here, fruits, vanilla and caramel, the barrel is more obvious. Unfortunately the bourbon brandy crushes the subtleties, it masks and obscures all the delicate notes which become fleeting, vague. Full bodied mouthfeel.
cheers
