I haven't had Angel's Share (I missed my chance last time it was available) but I hear its awesome and Serpent's Stout is literally one of the best stouts I have ever had so I go into this excited. Nose is surprisingly sweet. Vanilla, sherry, caramel, oak, cherries, chocolate, chocolate covered cherries, plums, figs, dark fruits and grape. Taste is strong, oak flavors up front with vanilla and chocolate. Cherries and grapes follow with some assistance from dark fruits. Definite booziness; warming but not overwhelming. The barrels really come through in an awesome way and they don't fight each other. There are very distinct bourbon notes up front followed right on the heels by the fruitier brandy flavors. The mouthfeel is smooth, silky, slightly hot and awesome. This is one the greatest barrel aged ales I have ever tasted, hands down.

Amazing nose and flavor of chocolate, bourbon, sherry, cherries, brandy, toffee, fig, date, raisin, sandalwood, and coffee. Beautifully balanced with almost no carbonation, but a voluptuous mouthfeel that is coating, and helps the finish to last incredibly long.
I'm a moderate fan of Serpent Stout, and only a marginal fan of The Angel's Share, but this blend is absolutely fantastic!

The cork popped and I instantly knew everything was gonna be ok. The dark velvet pours slowly into my stemless Chardonnay producing a light tan head that quickly gives way to the darkness.
The smell is amazing. Bourbon and dark fruits float up to the nose, with slight vinous notes and tons of oaky vanilla. A faint chocolate hiding behind the vanilla of the barrel. The brandy comes out as it warms, definitely worth the wait.
Taste is bourbon filled chocolate with an amazing vanilla note on the back end. A vine-like booze flavor jumps into the rink as the beer warms. While it's warming, it's definitely not bad, it would be incredibly amazing in the winter but I can't fault it even in the summer.
Overall I have to say that this is most certainly one of the best beers I've had. I limit most of my reviews to beers that are unique or unusually good or bad, but I have to say that this brew is phenomenal. This is easily in my top 5, I would definitely take one over KBS any day.

Deliver me from evil. Wow, this beer rocks. Strong taste with bourbon and vanilla, fruit like undertones. Great bouquet and nice dark color. I've been waiting for a while to try this beer and was only holding back because of cost. At $16 for a 12 oz bottle, I'm not going to drink too many of these, but I will drink them on days that end in a y. Great overall beer. Nice dark color, sweet vanilla fruity taste and good strong alcohol taste. Love it!

Bottle shared by bvery at Darkness Day 2012, thanks dude! Dark with some head. Aroma and taste as expected, just a delicious mix of an imperial stout and barleywine (my two favorite styles) with the yummy bourbon. Need to try this again and rate under more ideal conditions.

A: Pours a deep dark chocolate brown. Decent beige head for the style which quickly dissipates into a ring. Leaves a nice sticky lace.
S: Nice balance of both bourbon and brandy in the nose, with roasty coffee, dark fruit, vanilla, and fudge. Really intense and amazing.
T: One of the most amazingly complex and orgasmic beers I've ever had. You get all of the sweet flavors mentioned in the smell and they are complimented with plenty of brandy and a strong bourbon kick. Nice balanced heat.
M: In spite of being low on carbonation, this is very frothy and silky. It's got that thick motor oil viscosity of a great RIS, which I was surprised with due to it being a blend. It really does retain the best elements of both styles in the blend.
O: I'm a huge fan of dark barrel-aged beers, and I'd say this is one of my all-time favorites. It's a great winter sipper.

Pours jet black with a small light tan head. In the aroma, huge bourbon presence. In the taste, mellow bourbon notes, with a small malty roast in the there. A small alcohol bite and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry vanilla and bourbon like aftertaste. Big bourbon all day, notes of vanilla, alcohol, and a small roasty malt.

Thanks to Nashvillain for this nice birthday surprise! Poured into stemless wine glass...
A- Cork popped off, whew!... I was glad to see that. Pours pitch black with a cm of dark mocha head. Settles to a film quickly.
S- Dancing plethora of aromas in my nose. Bourbon, licorice, fig, alcohol, roast, vanilla and caramel! Very sweet and big...
T/M- A ton of chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon. Very sweet and complete! I get the roast from Serpents and I get the big sweet Angels Share. Beautifully perfect blend! The brandy is a bit hidden behind all the other flavors. Heavy, but not extremely tasking to get through the palate. Smooth, slick, wonderful feel.
O- This beer is too delicious, I feel like I just did something illegal by drinking this.

Deliverance, bottle bought at Nejaime's Wine Cellar in Lenox, MA, for a good $17.95. I saw many Lost Abbey beers during my time in Illinois (had a horrible bottle of '09 Brandy Angel's Share and enjoyed an alright-but-tedious Lost&Found, plus Serpent Stout on tap), but this was a new one for me.
Appearance: Poured in a plastic cup at a cheap motel in the Berkshires, Deliverance comes black and then some (it was after midnight with dim light and a wintry chill). You would think it's either coffee or cola. One-finger mocha-colored head that remains throughout. Beautiful retention and lacing.
Smell: Coffee, cola, liquorice, vanilla, wood, char. Caramel. Autumn. A beautiful, evocative beer. Perfect for this chilly fall weather in the mountains.
Taste: Yum! Now we are FINALLY talking, Lost Abbey! As the saying goes, "I could drink this all day". A perfect mixture of sweet and savory, with some booze to measure. Raisins, vanilla, toffee, bubblegum. Some smoke and country ham, distant. Chocolate, more cola at the end.
Mouthfeel: Just about perfect carbonation, almost full body (could use a tad more, though) and great balance. Nicely hot and boozy at the end, with a sticky finish that stays in the lips.
Overall: This drinks phenomenal. So delicious, balanced, engaging. A sipper or a chugger, but no trace of 12.5%.
My fourth Lost Abbey and the first truly great one. Worth the price? Almost. I'll buy it again if I see it.

Poured from the cage and cork bottle into a chalice glass
A- Deep mahogany color with almost no head
A- Bourbon, brandy, vanilla, dark fruits, chocolate, oak, tobacco
T- Follows the nose pretty closely with the brandy and bourbon front and center, dark fruits like raisins, oak, sweet roasted malts, vanilla, cocoa
M- Full bodied, incredibly complex but wonderfully well balanced. Alcohol is present, but no alcohol burn.
O- This is one amazing beer. Bourbony and boozy, sweet, with a strong alcohol presence. How this beer achieves so much balance is a true achievement. I want more! A true beergasm!

Tasted out of the bright tank at Lost Abbey in an 8 oz taster glass. Not released yet. A blend of brandy-barrel Angel's Share and bourbon-barrel-fermented Serpent's Stout.
Smells like alcohol and butterscotch. Tastes like sweet dark fruits, rich chocolate, caramel, and most noticeably, homemade butterscotch. Deliverance shows an incredible balance for so many goey candy-bar flavors. Distant German hops and, more importantly, strong alcohol and roasted malts provide a stiff backbone for the sweet decadence. Deliverance does not come off as syrupy like many of its Lost Abbey cousins, but the intense butterscotch is caught up in a three-way harmony with alcohol and chocolate.
Deliverance has a full body and a complex, oxidized finish, placing it along the most refined dessert alcohols.

From notes, tasted Dec. 3
A. Dark with a rich cream colored head. There is a sliver of ruby at the edges otherwise completely black. Minimal lacing.
S. Highly appealing nose, starts a little boozy but quickly gives way to a bouquet of fruits and finishes with a strong sweet wood.
T. Lives up to the nose 100%. Initial reaction: f*%@ing delicious. Starts a little boozy quickly replaced by dark fruit followed by oak-bourbon complexity and depth. Finishes with a little heat. The best parts of the beer linger for sometime for you to enjoy.
M. Thick. Low carbonation, the beer coats the tongue providing a pleasantly intense flavor experience. Spot on.
D. Only critique is that it is coming in a little hot. Seems with some age this will quite possibly be the perfect beer(IMO).
Overall this is awesome, can't speak highly enough of this .

Pours a deep sable a scratch above black with a thick, if not persistent, tan head. Malty aroma has a strong overtone of bourbon-soaked wood and hints of toffee and chocolate. Distinctive flavor has malty, bourbon, woody, molasses, coffee, fruity - how many notes are there? I seem to get different ones with each sip! And whoa, what an alcohol bite, like a liquid pit bull that has decided your tongue is a juicy steak! Texture has firm body and plenty of fizz and sass, and the tingle it leaves behind decided to sit for a spell. This beer is worth going through hell, high water, airport security and over-affectionate great aunts to get.

Had on tap at EBF; now reviewing from a bottle.
Pours deep brown with a hint of ruby. Thin, pillowy, roasted marshmallow colored head throughout.
The aroma is a blast of booze, and lots of oak. Smells like I have my head in a recently-emptied barrel. Great stuff.
The taste of the bottled version is true to what I remember from the keg at EBF. Strong bourbon notes, with a solid roasty, oaky base. Maybe a touch of tobacco as well. Slightly sweet for the most part, the brandy dries out the finish, giving this brew a second life at the back end. Superb.
Mouthfeel is solid and appropriate- not too slick, and the lingering flavors are subtly sweet and pleasant, especially considering the onslaught of flavor in every sip.
This brew is truly spectacular. I have yet to try the two brews that make up this masterpiece, but I will seek them out (and perhaps mix them together). This beer is an expensive yet special treat that is worth the price of admission.

The bottle presentation itself is pretty impressive and the beer that follows does not let you down. By the way that's my pic:)
A-Pretty dark but the Angel's Share lightened it up a bit. Dark head that fades quickly and some nice lacing.
S-Wow! This is exactly what I expected. This is a big beer with a big nose! The brandy and bourbon blend nicely without overpowering each other. There's alcohol, dark fruits, barrel.
T-First you get the blended brandy and bourbon so it's sweet but not overpowering. The brandy is very present. Dark fruits, vanilla, oak and brown sugar. The alcohol comes into play heavily at the end, I can't wait to try this in another 6 months.
M-Luscious! It's full bodied, smooth, and nicely CARBONATED. Not nearly as heavy as you'd think and pretty easy drinking for a 12.5% beer.
Well done Lost Abbey.

this is fantastic! -
12.7 oz. bottle poured into my favorite tulip glass (Ephemere)
poured thick and viscous and put up a 1/2-finger of head -
the darkest mahogany brown - when held up to light you can see the color come through around the edges -
smells like all the good stuff ! -
taste is amazing at the moment - the dried fruits, the chocolate, the booze - caramel - vanilla/chocolate - wow!
fizzy on the front end with a slick hot mouthfeel -
nice lingering aftertaste -
leaves a little sediment in the bottom of the glass -
I want more!

This had everything I like: Imperial, Dark, roasted, ABV, and Bourbon.
It graced us with its presence at West End and Backcountry Pizza and Taphouse in Boulder in Spring 2012. Pure awesome. I gave an average rating for "mouthfeel" because I don't remember. I'm not even sure I know what that means.
This beer is in my top 5%. I actually thought Lost Abbey's Angel Share was even better (the Bourbon barrel version) so it isn't a surprise I loved this. Deliverance is part Angel's Share and part Serpent's Stout.

Thanks to Agentmunky for sharing this one with me. Poured from a small bottle, probably into a small snifter.
A: Black with a tiny brown head that thins to a ring.
S: Alcohol, bourbon, brandy, cognac, vanilla, caramel and oak in the nose.
T: Sweet and astringent. Vanilla hits you up front, with some caramel, mocha, grape, brandy and coffee, all quite well balanced.
M: From what I remember it was full bodied, probably somewhat low on carbonation (in the direction of smoothness, not flatness).
O: A great beer, a combination of two great beers, though I haven't really tried either, I have tried regular Serpent's Stout and bourbon Angel's Share. This is definitely worth a try.

On draft and in 2012 bottle from brewery
A: Jet black with very slight carmel ring around outside.
S: exceptional! The brandy and and whiskey from the barrels really shine through.
T: very rich and deep tones. Has a high amount of noticeable
alcohol taste.
M: medium, but with a high viscosity and fairly chewy.

This is the beer that Angel's Share should have been. This is what Angel's Share should taste like; this is Angel's Share on steroids. Love it.
Black with a thick tan head. Complex sweet creamed espresso, sweet black chocolate, deep cherry; rich candied plums with undertones of carmel, toffee and whiskey.
Mouthfeel is thick and creamy and, yes, you can feel and taste the alcohol. Live with it! It's an alcoholic beverage! There is also good and attractive carbonation. It's delicious and is worth the hype that Angel's Share received.
There is little wrong with this one as flavors follow nose precisely and all attributes one gets in the nose follow in the layered flavors.
Finish is sweet, rich, thick carmel/toffee/plumed/cherry whiskey with espresso and black chocolate. Few "end of dinner," "dessert" or "sipping" brews can match this one.

an exceptional beer. i had not had much to drink in the last couple weeks, but decided to open a few gems today. sitting here sipping on this one, consumed on 09/11/2010.
pours a very dark brown with a light tan head of just a light bit of lacing that clings to the side and the bottom of the glass.
aroma is huge, rich and indulgent with wonderful hints of bourbon and caramel, toffee, rich barrel and alcohol notes that rip through the air. warming brings on all the vanilla and sweet notes i could handle and i melt into the glass, very, very impressive. as i take a sip it is rich and full, perfect carbonation for the style with the vanilla and toffee really shining here. bourbon lacing the palate and a rich and sweet finish that has a slight warming as it goes down and a smooth, tobacco touch as it ends.
one of the best beers i have had from lost abbey hands down. this is what i have been waiting for them to put out. amazing.

I must say I was extremely surprised and excited by this beer.
Pours black with ruby brown highlights when held up to light. Small tan head forms and leaves a little bit of lacing down the glass. Nice alcohol feet too.
Smell is of brown sugar, molasses, grapes, vanilla, oak, caramel, and alcohol. Wow sums it up but I was really not expecting this.
Opens up with grapes, vanilla, and bourbon, moves into the caramel and sugar territory, finishes with grapes sneaking up with bourbon and caramel. Rather sweet and warming, but not cloying at all.
Mouthfeel is full with a tinge of carbonation. Enough carbonation.
Overall, its damn good and damn surprising. Was not expecting this (had no idea what brandy was/is) but this is just awesome.

Pours a very, very dark brown - only really a dagger of dark brown piercing the body when held up to the light. Head is ochre, quite listless but leaving some nice trails behind. A swirl is quite effective in reviving it. Small bubbles, not too dense. Yeah, good colour, pretty good everything else.
Smells quite dark, yet not roasty. Lots of chocolate, dark and cocoa-esque with a Tia Maria edge. Yeah, very sweet, dark and liqueury, a touch of milk coffee and Irish cream almost and a big dollop of coconut lingering at the back. A really very fascinating smell, and very enticing.
Taste is quite sweet as well. Lots of chocolate, dark and sweet with some nectar notes on the front, and a touch of orange peel with more of that Tia Maria liqueuriness. Sweet, though, and nicely weighted with an obvious alcohol that only asserts itself through the fullness of the body and never gets hot. Pleasant touches of marshmallow with more Irish cream, caramel, some touches of cinnamon, milk coffee, and some hop notes towards the back giving apple characteristics. Some shiraz wine notes as well, berries and pepper, oh it's just intoxicatingly good. Wow. This is a cracker of a beer.
If a beer is this nice, I will drink it. It's a heavy drop and one for sharing, but it's amazing, so smooth, so tasty.

375 ml bottle poured to Duvel tulip the beer pours a deep dark viscous black with dark brown edges in the light. Small 1/4 finger brown head with some retention and nice lacing. Little carbonation. The nose is a pleasant mix of bourbon and brandy with hints of oak, vanilla, dark fruits, and roasted malt. Smells great. The flavor is even more complex with an initial rush of fig and raisins and prunes before the bourbon and vanilla oak flavors come in. Roasted malt. Mildly bitter. Not hint of the higher abv, very impressive. Rich and full bodied with light carbonation. Finishes very smooth. Overall, this is fantastic! I'd love to pick more up and age. It's already mellow and tasty though. Highly recommended!
