12.7oz bottle, 2013 Vintage. Served at around 45F.
Pours hazy orange/gold with a huge rocky white head. The head is impressive, slowly receding and leaving caves and crevices behind, leaving not clumps but freakin’ chunks of foam on the side of the glass.
Aroma is fruity and spicy. Tart lemon, pineapple, tropical fruits, kiwi, sour green apple, yeast, touch of vinegar, hint of funk. Brett is more in a fruity stage right now. Very good strength.
Flavor is quite fruity, sour apple, lemon, tropical fruits, melon, kiwi, spicy, yeasty, some sweetness in the middle, tiny touch tart on the finish, mild alcohol.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with sharp carbonation.
This is really good, the aroma in particular is delightful. As far as how much it differs from their regular Devotion, I can’t say, but stands up on its own as a great beer. Gonna have to grab one more to throw in the cellar and let the Brett do its thing.

Poured into a Lost Abbey Rastal San Marco Glass. Pours a quite hazy medium golden amber with a massive, half glass white head that dissipated slowly leaving heavy, pillowy lacing. Aroma of bready malt, slight dry white wine, hints of clove and slight wild yeast and funk. So far the funk level is just right. Flavor is much more funky barnyard up front with moderate brett, developing unusual sweet / dry malt, lemon citrus; slightly floral and vinous. Finishes with dry brett and light hop bitterness. Light bodied, but nice mouthfeel from active carbonation. I never know what to expect from brett influenced Belgian and saison type beers; I'm not a fan of intense funkiness, wild yeast nor sourness. This ale has a distinct funkiness, but all the flavors are nicely balanced and lightly influential, and I really enjoyed it. Lighter than expected, but well made and enjoyable.

375mL corked and caged bottle poured into a tulip. 2013 vintage.
(A)- Pours a cloudy golden orange color. Produced a giant head of clumpy white froth. Ridiculous retention behind it. Tons of stickly clumpy lacing left behind.
(S)- A very dry yet fruity Brett-driven funk. Even some bright lemon lime citrus zest.
(T)- Quite similar to the smell. A good dry Brett addition that is ever so slightly earthy to it with bright lemon and lime citrus zest.
(M)- A crisp carbonation level. I like the ripe citrus this throws out with the dry but ever so slightly funky Brett. Quite crisp and refreshing!
(O)- This is quite nice, not to mention finally a Lost Abbey beer in the small 375mL bottles that does not cost $17+ a bottle! The Brett is nice and dry without being medicinal and the citrus really livens this up. A welcome sight with the weather improving.

2013 Vintage
Poured into a standard tulip.
Appearance: Pours an opaque, almost glowing pale orange with a monolithic 3 finger white rocky head that sticks around seemingly forever, leaving plenty of web like lacing behind.
Aroma: Woah, extremely ripe, funky albeit young Brettanomyces right away; loads of peppery, wet, musty hay, light pineapple and even a low earthy, sulfuric note as plenty of lemon rind and fresh cut grass from the spicy tettnang hops greet your nostrils. Underneath the German hops and the brett funkiness, there are distinct presences of green pear juice and faint banana as well as a kiss of a cracker like malt tone.
Taste: Immediately you're greeted by a slap musty barnyard funk from the brett, spicy and herbal hops and then the beer just finishes dry and abruptly without any real malt backbone. Which leaves the impression of it being rather watery. There are notes of more musty hay, horse blankets, leather as well as very bitter, spicy hops left lingering on your palate.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied, very high carbonation almost seltzer like.
Overall: I was really intrigued by the nose, I thought it was going to like Lost Abbey's answer to Rayon Vert by Green Flash, but it just falls flat; No malt backbone whatsoever, so it is very unbalanced; all you get is funkiness from the yeast and a hoppiness that is way too sharp and bitter for the style. I'm pretty let down by this beer, I as came in with high expectations, but this beer certainly didn't come close to meeting them. Definitely stick with Rayon Vert for an interesting American take on a Belgian Pale Ale hit with Brettanomyces.
