25.4 fl oz brown bottle, caged & corked, served in a chalice.

Bottled on 03/18/2011.

Glowing, bright gold in color with a considerable haze and noticeable carbonation. Pillow like foam that mellows to a strong, creamy 1/2" head. The lacing can only be described as thick wall around the entire chalice.

Fresh, bright fruit aromas: lemon, lime, apricot, orange, and melon. Mild, candied sugar sweetness. Clean, mild floral hops which add a nice, mellow earthen tone.

Earthen, musty flavors up front with notes of black pepper, licorice, and rosemary. A healthy dose of citrus brightens things a bit. The candied sweetness is rather mild throughout with the herbs and spices as the primary flavor contributors. Stiff, warming alcohol follows a moderate burst of carbonation and a dry finish.

Medium in body. Active on account of the carbonation, but primarily dry due to the flavor profile.

I know that this 'style' is attempted a lot by domestic brewers, but in my opinion it is seldom done without numerous flaws; however, not this offering. Flavorful yet balanced and well in line with a traditional Belgian Strong Pale.
