Pours a solid black into a snifter with a deep brown head that quickly faded for me. Some alcohol legs present.

Nice full aroma on this of coffee grounds, dark chocolate, and damp earth.

Taste is the star here with multiple levels of flavor that expand as the beer warms up. Good french roast type coffee flavor, with imported dark chocolate. Some slight vanilla notes in the background, and a surprising note of pure alcohol as a kicker. The straight alcohol was actually good here and I didn't feel detracted from the beer in this case but gave it a good "heat note" that was welcomed.

Solid above average mouthfeel with good smooth carbonation that made it an easy sipper for such a big beer.

Overall, I was really glad to finally get to try a bottle of this stout. This was a really good example of the style.

A - Dark black with a finger of frothy khaki-chocolate head. Fades fairly slowly.

S - Chocolate and dark caramel malts, molasses, vanilla, black licorice, vanilla, coffee, and a bit of booze.

T - Dark caramel and chocolate malts, molasses, vanilla, black licorice, roasted coffee, vanilla, dark fruits, and some booze.

M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth and a touch thick with a roasted, sweet, and warming finish.

D - Great imperial stout. Good overall balance and mouthfeel.
