Blueline Series: No Equal Amber Lager - Redhook Ale Brewery

22oz bomber purchased at a local grocery store. Part of Redhook’s “Blueline Series,” according to the label, this was brewed to celebrate Redhook’s sponsorship of the Sounders. According to the label, this was bottled on July 11, 2012 at 1245 in Woodinville.

Poured a clear, slightly dark amber, with a creamy-looking off-white head. Said head took several minutes to drop, leaving quite a bit of lace on the sides of my Iron Goat Brewing pint glass.

Aroma is not bad – slightly roasted malts and a nutty scent. There’s also a whiff of grassy hops.

Malty in the taste, which is not surprising for an amber lager. Flavors are bready and mildly nutty. Towards the end of the taste there’s also a bit of the grassy, mildly bitter hops noted in the nose before things finish on a clean note. Again, not bad.

Medium bodied, with a clean finish one would expect from a lager.

This is an extremely well made beer that I’d be more excited about if I were more of a fan of amber beers. A 12oz serving would be more to my liking. It’s certainly not a flavor bomb, but if you want a beer that’s not too demanding, you could do a lot worse than this.

Food Pairing: Fresh orange was quite nice with this. Ate it alongside, rather than putting it in the glass, but that might have worked just as well.

A - Clear nutty-brown with nice bubbly head which left some good lacing
S - Caramel and nuttiness, some estery sweetness too.
T - Very similar to Newcastle, but cleaner and a little bit better balanced in my opinion. Pecans and walnuts. Some caramel and citrus echoes without being overt about it. A bit of bread on the end.
M - Very nice. Refreshing without feeling too thin. Bitterness is well in check here too.
O - Redhook is so great at making solid beers you just can't argue with. Good balance here, and an excellent session brew which could fit just about any occasion.

Cold 22 bottled on Feb 12 13. Served in tapered pint glass. Beer is deep amber but crystal clear, and tops itself with a nicely sized white head. Crisp, lagery aroma. Flavor is true to the color, with a solid malt backbone, suggesting carmel and grain, but not overwhelming with either.

A legitimate lager for optimistically warm spring days. Trying to escape the heavy ales of winter, but not yet ready for a true Summer pils.

had this on tap out in Issaquah, WA in the Spring of '12. It was on tap in our hotel lobby bar, which had very limited hours, and i basically planned the rest of our trip around when they would be open so i could have one or two of these each night.

color is very deep amber

head was nice, inch or two in a pint glass, laced perfectly

smell was mostly malts, but definitely had a hop scent, on the citrus side.

taste is very balanced, a little spicy, has a great malt backbone with a hop finish

Overall, the most drinkable beer i have had. perfect balance of malts and hops. i think it has something for everyone. i am a total hop head, and i loved this brew, which is very much a balanced brew.

i can't wait for our next trip to Seattle, i am going to the brewery this time

Poured from a bomber
Pours an awesomley clear dark amber
Smell is really weak and lacks body
Taste is pretty basic malt lite hop and some sweetness I think I may have gotten a skunked bottle because the after taste is gnarly....not a good gnarly
Mouthfeel is nice and bubbly goes down smooth
Although I am a sounders fan and Seattle native I was pretty let down by this. Should of gone with Boston lager

A - Pours a crystal clear amber-orange with a very small thin, light tan head that is gone quickly.

S - Malty, carmel and bread.

T - Bread, carmel, and slight raisin.

D - Lower carbonation with an average body.

O - Pretty lackluster here.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: rich amber hue with a clear body and a good effervescence. Head poured two fingers of pillowy tan-ivory foam. Quite good!

Smell: mild aroma of caramel-centric malt and some green & earthy, perhaps noble, hops. Not too bad.

Taste: light malt flavor has some biscuit and a little bit of caramel in the mix. Noble/earthy hops are at the end, with a very light bitterness. Not too bad, but kind of plain.

Mouthfeel: light body but a good, well-integrated carbonation which yields a good creaminess. I like it.

Overall: this beer is decent but a bit plain. Drinkable, but a bit heavy in malt characteristics that I don't love (that biscuit!).
