Notes:
As the fall days grow shorter, beer drinkers naturally start their migration toward more robust, full-bodied brews. Late Harvest is an easy-drinking, yet flavorful brew that features a deep chestnut color and unique, roasted malt aroma and flavor. Late Harvest’s rich flavor is the result of using four different malts, yet the robust profile remains balanced and sophisticated, thanks to our two distinctive hop additions.

My pour gave way to creamy but somewhat short head and a beautiful amber color. The aromas are very malty with a slight kick of hops. The head quickly dissipates and what is left is a pretty bland beer. There are hints of hazelnuts in the taste. There is a moderate hoppy bite to it that comes across as unpleasant. Somewhat dry, watery, and overly carbonated. Combine that with a fairly apparent booze note, and we are looking at a beer that should be accompanied by food. Letting it breathe and warm up actually does benefit the experience by mellowing out the mouth feel. It's just an unbalanced beer that I would expect from a much less expensive beer. Don't really bother pouring it into a glass, you aren't missing any aromas. The Fat Tire is a much better Amber Ale.

I picked this up at Wegmans in the mixed six cooler, enjoyed from a willybecker chilled.

A deeply hazed amber/copper with a head that comes and goes, tiny bead ring with no lace but head revives when swirled. The aroma is sweet and caramel with dry herbal tinges and some mild bready notes with light fruit esters. The feel is good with nice malty body and moderately high carbonation giving the impression of dryness with slight spice and hint of alcohol with mild bitterness.

The taste is light with caramel presence and slight bready malt with a hint of pepper from the hops that accents the flavor, but taste verges more toward dark bread as it nears the middle with less caramel sweetness when it opens up a little. There is a mild dried fruit tinge near the finish with semi dry taste lingering. Overall this was a decent amber, not a bad beer, just nothing to really set it apart. It is drinkable for what it is but in the end it is just a little better than ordinary in the realm of ambers.

Review from notes.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours a burnt amber/brown with ruby highlights.

Slight, mild hop aroma on the nose. Touches of apples and cinnamon as well.

The taste was less hoppy than expected. Slight lingering bitterness on the end palate.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with good carbonation and good retention.

I'm digging the bottle shape. This one was bottled on Sept 8; I'm not sure how that qualifies as a "late" harvest.

Pours a true amber, slight haze, absolutely no head to speak of. Surprised to see a harvest ale categorized as an amber instead of APA or IPA, but the aroma confirms that style choice. Put simply, this smells of nearly nothing. If I really concentrate I can pick out a little spice, ala a pumpkin beer.

I wasn't expecting much flavor based on the look and smell, but the taste brings a bit more to the table. However, it certainly doesn't taste like any harvest ale I've had, as the strong hop notes are noticeably absent. It's a little sticky with a roasty/toasty profile. Carbonation helps to break things up as does a little zing of bitterness at the end. I also pick up on some more of those spices from the nose.

This isn't awful, but isn't what I was expecting. I can't say I'll buy it again.
