Stopped in here thinking about a beer, pizza, and watching the NFC title game.
Well... The place was PACKED. I had to stand by the bar, and try not to block any of the TV's. Atmosphere seemed cool though, small place, with a tiny bar on the right. Most of the seating is old school benches and tables. Looks like a pizza place should.
Quality was good. The taps were all craft, and they had some good choices. Looks like they just ran out of Pliny (damn, second time in the last few weeks this has happened to me) but they had Moonlight Death & Taxes (forgot how good that was), Green Flash, Anderson Valley, Bear Republic, among others.
Service was ok, nothing special. The place was crowded, and she was fairly speedy considering, but not all that friendly.
Selection was pretty good. 16 taps with a decent variety.
Didn't try the food because it probably would have taken a long time to arrive, but it looked really good.
Prices were fair.
Overall, maybe I'll make it back sometime and hope they aren't nearly as busy because it looked like a pretty good place to eat and drink a good beer.

An upscale pizza joint with an emphasis on craft beer.
The restaurant is fairly small, and surprisingly very clean for a place on University. There is a small bar, a few lounge-style chairs and coffee tables, and a dozen or so dining tables. Two flat screens on either side of the restaurant cover any games you might be missing, but I wouldn't go here solely to watch sports.
The pizza is the standout; they use organic ingredients and make a very good NY-style thin crust. The pizza stands up to other Berkeley favorites Lanesplitter and Pie in the Sky. There is also an impressive selection of hot sauces. The beer selection is above average for a pizza place. The owner is a craft beer enthusiast, and while he isn't an expert, he loves to talk about beer and is open to suggestions. He loves Pliny the Elder and promises to serve it as long as RR brews it. Other taps are Trumer, Damnation, Lagunitas IPA, SNPA, Anchor Steam, and the tasty Anderson Valley Oatmeal Stout. Notable bottles include Blind Pig, Green Flash Hop Head Red, Racer 5, Old Rasputin, and Speakeasy IPA.
On paper, Bobby G's is a straight-A, however, there is something a bit too clean and sterile about the place to be an aesthetically appealing beer bar. It is a family friendly restaurant, and as such the lighting is a little bright to be comfortable for a real beer session. If you intend to have 5 pints with your pizza, Lanesplitter would be the better option. But Bobby G's is a great place to kickoff a weekend night with an excellent pizza -one of the 2 or 3 best in Berkeley- and a pint or two of craft beer.

Been going here for years. It's almost getting too crowded for its own good as of late. Bar has about 10 or so seats and there are tables filing up the rest of the space. Ordering for food and/or beer is done at the counter and everything is brought out.
Tables are packed somewhat tight though there are some spots that are a little less cramped. Lights are pretty bright day or night here. Not exactly a typical bar atmosphere.
Service is generally pretty good but bartenders can be a little slow sometimes, even when there is hardly anyone seated at the bar.
Beer selection is very good. They have about 10 taps that stay the same, including Pliny and another solid IPA (GF West Coast IPA or Racer 5), plus other local staples (Anderson Valley, Moonlight, Trumer, Anchor) and 3 rotating taps. Russian River sours come in from time to time, which is a nice treat. They do a pretty good job of catering somewhat to beer geeks and having things that the regular crowd will be in to as well.
Crowd is mainly locals, some families, college students, etc. Bar crowd is definitely regulars, always the same faces there, no matter when I go.
Food is pretty good, lots of vegan options, clearly marked on the menu. Pizza by the slice is available, which is great. This is usually what I order. Nice happy hour, $1 off slices and beer, works out pretty well.
I'm probably a little hard on this place as I've been so many times over the years, but don't let my review dissuade you, top notch beer selection for the downtown Berkeley area, and good food as well. Definitely worth a visit if you want one of the best beer selections in Berkeley.

This place is probably going to be my go to spot to grab a bite/beer on weekends. The tap list is good, and they keep the three guest taps rotating pretty often. Pliny the Elder is almost always on tap, as is something from Moonlight and Anderson Valley. Really nice atmosphere, as last night there was live blues music, multiple TVs with sports and other stuff, and ample seating. The bar is small, but it doesn't really matter. Service is very good as well, as they are helpful and quick about everything. In terms of quality everything was good, but I do wish they had glassware other than pint glasses for everything. Food was great; I get a slice or two usually which runs about 2.75 a slice, but you can add toppings to your slices which is nice. Whole pizzas look expensive, but the ones other people got looked absolutely delicious, so they may be worth it. Overall this is a really nice, informal place you could go to at any time of day or day of the week and feel at home.
