Picked this up in VT. Pours dark brown with a frothy single finger head. Smells like fresh hops, cocoa, a little coffee. Taste starts fresh and hoppy and finishes with a bitter smokey flavor. I get some dark chocolate and coffee in the after taste. This is a great combination of hops and stout-like flavored that is balanced perfectly. The texture is Thicker than an ipa but thinner than a stout or porter, very enjoyable. This is probably one of the best black IPAs I've ever had.

They aren't kidding when they say "black". No light getting through this puppy.
S- roasty, floral notes
T- a lot going on. Complex. Roast, some chocolate, dark fruits, pine, sweet but not cloying or overdone, bitter in the finish. Every sip brings out something new. Where is the 10%? It's well hidden!
M- another poster described this as viscous...yeah, that's it. Good body and the lacing sticks around. The carbonation is spot on.
I only picked up one bottle of this on a recent trip to VT. Damn...hopefully I'll be back up there soon. I'm definitely seeking this one out again.

Bought this originally for a friend and after trading it decided I better go back and get one for myself before it was gone. Very smart decision on my part.
A - Very dark. No light shining through this one! Also showing off with a nice frothy 2 finger head. 15 minutes in and it is still holding a nice foamy layer.
S - It carries a very roasty smell. Dark chocolate, and coffee first come to mind.
T - Starts on a hoppy note. Finishes with a bitter side.
M - Initially it has a very viscus feel. The carbonation at first sip really helps play on the hoppy flavors in the beer. I noticed as that dissipated the bitter notes came through very nicely.
Overall I'd say this was a real treat. Some nights when I get home from slaving in the kitchen all day I really just need one beer before crashing in bed for the night. It also really helps when that beer is at a nice 10%. Now that might not necessarily be how my night went tonight but I'll keep this one in mind when it is. Assuming I can get more at the Hunger Mountain Coop in Montpelier, VT. Cheers.

A-dark brown black color with a nice tan head and good lacing
S-chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, hint of pine and earthy notes
T-dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, pine, hints of citrus and a nice bitter hop finish, alcohol very well integrated for such a high ABV
F-medium body with mod erase carbonation, crisp
O-really like this black ale, was surprisingly tasty and very well-balanced, will be drinking more of this

Poured from a 22-oz bottle into a weisen glass. Beautifully dark with around a finger of cream-colored head. Great lacing! The smell is very hoppy with lots of pine. Great taste and mouthfeel that starts bitter and slightly sweet and finishes clean, leaving hints of pine on the tongue. Too bad this is a limited production, I'd definitely like to have this one many more times!

Picked up this 22oz bottle at the Cabot Annex last Sunday. The price was not loaded into their 'puter, so they charged me only $3.09. Sweet! Will enjoy it today out in the 'Zebo before heading in to watch some football...
Pours a very deep, opaque chestnut/mahogany color. Head is frothy, healthy and mocha hued, lasting verry well. Lacing is top-shelf as well. The nose has a decent combo of rindy citrus and roastyness. Body is middle of the pack, and it is low on the prickle factor.
Flavorwise, this one is low on the malty sweetness, as the 90 IBUs would suggest. Has a solid roasty character, with some espresso, mocha and dark choco bitterness present. On top of that is heaped some rindy, pithy, even piney, hoppage. So you get bitterness from both the dark malts as well as the lupulins, and it lingers nicely in the aftertaste. This one is well-made and satisfying. Now, if I could always get it for $3.09.... ;-)
Prosit!
