Checked this place out at the Hill Farmstead Tap takeover.
Im reviewing this based on the crowd that was there, but I believe that on a normal night the atmosphere would be different, and I'm giving them a fair assessment. I'd seen some of the crazy tap takeovers this place has had and was definitely excited to see what they would offer.
Decent sized place. Few tables, mostly hightops with stools. I arrived at 1145 when they opened at 1130. Entire wrap around bar is filled and all tables are reserve or seated with patrons. Damn.
Looks like they had about 15-20 taps, 15 Hill Farmstead and a few Belgians I'd never seen on draft. Great selection. I found myself at the floating bar in the middle of the place, had to stand but I had no issue with that.
What I did notice is that the hightops all had 6 stools so if a four people who didn't know each other were sitting at the hightop there were two seats between the couples empty. When new ppl came in the had to sit in between those couples in an already cramped space.
Most of the ppl seemed annoyed at first, then started chatting it up with everyone at their tables because they really didnt have a choice.
That being said, If you want to eat with any room at this place I'd suggest making a reservation and asking for a table NOT a hightop or your basically sitting right on top of another person.
They make the best of the room there but its not very intimate to say the least, but its a beer bar so it is what it is. I didn't eat but the menu looked great and the food I saw looked super tasty.
I had a good time overall, based on the events they're able to throw, if you're from out of town, this is a place you're just gonna have to deal with the crowds, so adjust accordingly.

Stopped here on the way home from Maine. A random pick off of Google ended up being an amazing visit! The atmosphere was just awesome...a Belgian Cafe with dark ambient lighting and a large bar with great interior. I knew I'd be happy here from the moment I walked in the door. Lots of beers to choose from, and not just Belgian brews though I stuck to having quads as I was in the mood for them.
Service was excellent. Our bartender was very knowledgeable. The food here was a full 5.0 for me. I got the hummus platter which was simply amazing. My husband got the potato pizza which was phenomenal! This place reminded me of a lot of places near our home outside of Philadelphia, but with better food. Prices were a bit high on everything, but not too bad. I wish we lived closer! Next time we make a New England trip we will certainly be going back.

I have been to the abbey a few times. It is a great bar, but far from an A+.
Beer- Great beer. A wide variety of selection of only quality beer from around the world.
Service- Both times I had a table with a group of friends. The server had a bad attitude and ruined the experience. I will be sitting at the bar next time and I suggest doing the same.
Food- Great local food from local farms. Very pricey, but it the food is worth it.
Overall a great bar, but not an A+. There are a few bars that blow this one away.

What a gem. My friends and I often travel an hour to go to Armsby Abbey. Completely worth it every time. Usually have the best tap list around and delicious food to compliment. At the same time, we usually have to save our money for a bit to head over there.
We often start with a cheese platter and go from there. My personal favorite is the macaroni & cheese. Talk about perfection.
The range of beers is great and is always changing. On top of that, they usually hold some of the best local beer events.

An oasis within Worcestor. The downtown part of this city has seen better days, and I"m told it will again soon. For now, though, it's not a gathering place. However, if you are there you must stop by this Abbey of a bar. Small and quaint, longer than wider, it will seat a good amount of people. Small little outside area is where I sat while visiting a friend who's attending Clark College. Good amount of bottles, from local to Belgian. Taps were changing out when I got there, but were ready in about 30 min.
Friendly service and appropriate glassware. Food? I dunno, didn't look. I'd say the only problem is the location...right under the Sheriff's office!

I have worked in the Worcester area for over a year now and am glad I moved closer for a reason, Armsby Abbey. I can't say I am a very frequent visitor but everytime I do go, it is usually a great time. I first came here because I saw they had Older Viscosity on-tap (almost two years ago now) on their website, it was also my girlfriends 21st birthday. We both really enjoyed the evening. Atmosphere is that of a craft beer drinker's bar (like Monk's, Moan and Dove, etc). Nothing fancy, no sports games playing, all about the beer. The glassware display is impressive and fun to just gaze at over and over. Quality of beer and food is always excellent, fresh beer and local ingredients in most of the food. Service is quick, the correct glassware is used, water is always provided. Selection is always above average, with a good selection of both imports, locals and craft beer from other parts of the country on tap. Great bottle list (although I have always had a problem with some ridiculous prices for some bottles, my only real gripe with the Abbey). I have had food here a lot, it is a treat. Jerk Chicken sandwich is a must for spicy food lovers and the breakfast version is superb. In fact, going here for brunch is the best thing about Armsby Abbey, amazing brunch. On the pricey side of things but it is worth it to go here for a nice dinner, brunch or round of good beers once in a while.

This is a great joint. Stopped here with some friends I was visiting, per the recommendation of multiple BA's. Very nice, clean, place with a decent tap selection (for a beer bar) and a huge bottle selection (with some vintage brews, some upwards of $100/bottle). Each time we ordered beer, it took them awhile to get it to us, but we were enough immersed in conversation that it didn't bother us too much. I would advise ordering your next round before your glass is empty! The food is delicious - the owners are opening a bakery adjoining the bar in a few months so we asked if we could just have some baguette and olive oil, even though it wasn't on the menu - they were down with that. Great bread!
I would recommend the porchetta sandwich and the chipotle pork sandwich, both were delicious.
A bit spendy but definitely worth it if you don't go every week. Highly recommended!

Located right off the highway in Worchester, MA (whatever highway that is), this place was incredible. A selection of about 20 beers on tap, and many of them were things you just can't get anywhere else. I visited in 2011 after their stout-fest when they still had a great selection of stouts leftover. And the food... Lemme just say, I got the potato & herb pizza, and it was just about one of the best things I've ever had. My lovely wife got the hummus slate, and that was also amazing, and I don't even like hummus. I'd love to be able to go back here.

Went here for the first time for Stoutfest and was extremely impressed! Unbelievable beer selection and terrific food from local farms. Gotta love this place's commitment to excellence!! I enjoyed plenty of rare stouts from literally around the globe. The bar itself is a beautiful woodworkers work of art. the crowd in there was very friendly as well. the service was great considering how crowded it was and would definitely go back in a heartbeat. Great atmosphere to enjoy a brew and enjoy some unbelievable food!!!

Located on the quieter side of Main St in Worcester's downtown, the Armsby Abbey is one of the best beer bars I have yet to encounter. The interior set-up is much like the Alchemist in Waterbury, VT with the bar to the right making up approximately half of the establishment's seating capacity. The decor is simple and authentic; highlighted by the beautiful glassware on display behind the bar.
The quality of brews is as good as it gets for a beer bar. On tap are 22 drafts highlighting the Abbey's 'Stoutfest 2011'. Offerings included: Haandbryggeriet Odin's Tipple, Hanandbryggeriet Dark Force, De Struise Black Albert, Damnations II, III, and IV, Nogne-0 Dark Horizon 3, Xbeeriment Black Force One, 2008 Avery Mephistopheles, 2010 Allagash Fluxus, Allagash Bourbon Black, etc. The bottle list is quite extensive as well with the focus being the best of the best offerings for each representative style.
Service was a pleasant surprise to me. Based on some reviews that I've read, I expected beer snobbish, pretentious staff; however, I found the staff to be very friendly, polite, and helpful.
The food is much more on the 'upscale' side for a beer bar, and it is divine. I had the white potato and herb pizza with truffle oil; unbelievably tasty. The menu is certainly not for everyone, but the adventurous ones will definitely be pleased.
An absolute must visit for any beer enthusiast!
