The first clue to the off nature of this brew was the lack of any head (after the first 10 seconds).

The clincher though was the faint hint of LePage's Glue (like we used in grade school in the 1950's) that came through as it rested on my tongue.

I hate to be unkind, but this beer - at least the bomber I bought - is dissapointing at best (in fact I drain poured about 16 of the 22 oz.)

It's sort of a sour, off-tasting funky mess without being enjoyably hop-bitter.

A- Reddish brown with a fair amount of haze. Head was creamy white but retention was low.

S- Sourness with darker roasted malt smell with some malt sweetness. I got excited by how interesting this smelled, and then...

T- Much less appealing than the smell, it starts with citric sourness, sweet caramel malt and is overpowered by a burnt malt flavor. The sour/burnt mix is very unappealing and I struggled to find some highlight to this flavor combination (and couldn't).

Mouthfeel- even carbonation with unfortunately light mouthfeel.

Overall, I get the impression that there was just a little bit too much black patent in the brew, giving an oppressively bitter finish that lingered unpleasantly long after every taste. Perhaps with more mid-level caramel malt and less burnt barley husks this would be a more pleasant beer.

22 oz bomber. Aroma is fine enough, mostly toasty type malting, but OK. Apprearance..murky brown with just a wisp to suggest a head even existed..it did for like 5 seconds. taste/ not impressed, sourish ,bitter malts, burnt..A touch of hop but not much else. Very thin, watery palate to this one. Not very appetizing. Very dissapointed at this one. Their lager type beers are much better..this was like Michelobs attempts at "craft beer" but even more bland

On draught at Bailey's, Emily's Ember is a chill hazed chestnut brown with a tight, creamy eggshell head that leaves sheets of foamy lace. There's a nice glow to the lighter colored edges of brew.

Smell is soft malt, tight, with a light sweetness and dash of hop spice.

Taste is malty as well, some caramel, light leafy hops and a bit of bitterness on the finish. A classic, smooth little red ale.

Mouthfeel is on the dryer side, well carbonated, medium light body, perhaps a touch watery.

Drinkability is pretty good, a solid little session ale, enough flavor to satisfy without resulting in fatigue. A good bbq beer I'd guess.

The idea behind the ember is that it applies equal attributes from amber and red ale styles. I drank a pint locally at Mac's Place in Silverton (great rear patio on the river) where I encountered it past its prime. The beer clearly suffered from oxidation issues after leaving the brewery. Putting aside this unintended bland tartness, I was still able to appreciate a sweet caramel aroma and oaken woodiness. The beer is clear in the color of saddle leather with a full body and rim-round lace.

I wouldn't hesitate to try this one again. But without a tasting room at Seven Brides, we can only hope for better serving conditions at local bars than I got with Emily's Ember at Mac's Place.
