Novemberfest Beer

As a brewery, we haven’t been brewing lagers for a while. This or that has kept us distanced from that world, but we’re dipping back in with a release that’s coming to you on Friday 10/28. You can expect a beer that’s much like an Octoberfest, with a sturdy malt frame, but cloaked under the cover of October’s timely neighbor, November. Come see us and take a drive through Lager Town.

Had on tap at the half acre tap room. Pours a medium amber color with a nice head.

Balanced and good aromas of citrus, crackers, and cereal notes.

Medium body that is slightly lacking on the feel. It does make up for it with really good notes of grains, citrus, some bits of hops and cereals.

A very good lager. Not amazing, but very drinkable.

Served in a tumbler at Firkin.

Stickin' by the Half Acre station at Solidarity to try out this "Novemberfest". It pours a clear brass-amber topped by a couple o' fingers of cream-white foam. The nose comprises caramel, wheat, light clove, and light brown sugar. The taste holds notes of bitter grass, light menthol, light caramel, mild biscuit, and miscellaneous greens. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a slick-ish feel. Overall, an okay O-Fest (well, N-Fest, in this case, I guess...), but one that just seems a bit too bitter for its own good. The hops just don't meld very well the malty backbone at all.

A: Slightly cloudy dark amber in color. Forms a thin off-white head that slowly reduces down to a very thin, somewhat patchy surface coating. Leaves some light lacing.

S: Rather aromatic. Primarily caramel malts with a light toffee sweetness. Toasted malts and a blend of light grassy and citrus hops.

T: Caramel malts. Light sweetness. Toffee, toasted malts and a flavor I can only describe as "lightly peanuty." Some light hops on the finish. Flavor is very smooth with a maltiness that comes and goes quite quickly.

M: On the lighter side of medium with pretty good carbonation. Very mild bitterness.

O: A good beer and a very smooth, clean representation of the style. Not nearly as malty as most O-fests. Very drinkable.

Upon pouring, a nice burnt caramel brown, the beer formed a beautiful eggshell head. In the nose, classic American oktoberfest with it's own unique edge. Bready rye, caramel aromas backed by an earthy crushed fall leaves scent that I was loving. In terms of hops, just a faint earthy citrus.

In the mouth, a really nice malt bill makes this beer hefty with flavors of rye bread, caramel, black tea and dry lemon. Light enough to cleanse your palate, but heavy enough to enjoy on a fall night.

Overall, I thought this was an excellent Oktoberfest offering, far better than most. I love that Half Acre went the traditional route, yet still managed to make a beer that stands on it's own, in terms of uniqueness. Reminded me of Wake of the Flood, but with Lager yeast. Super tasty.

Picked up a growler from Half Acre. Shared it at the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Boobs opening night after-party. Served in a Night of the Living Ales 2010 taster pint glass.

A - Two fingers of off-white foam settle to a thick collar and near-complete cap, leaving behind minimal lace. Body is a hazy unfiltered amber color.

S - Caramel, nuts, bread, toasted grains, a dollop of honey, and perhaps the faintest hint of noble hops. Smells like an Oktoberfest alright.

T - Honey cakes, toffee malts, fresh-baked buttered biscuits, and a clean, smooth lager finish with a hint of herbal hop bitterness that lingers on the palate and grows in intensity over time

M - Medium-bodied, pleasant moderate carbonation, toasty and somewhat dry texture, and no obvious alcohol. Light residual stickiness.

D - A very nice Oktoberfest - definitely the strongest among all the the local ones I've tried this year. It was a big hit at the party, which featured a lot of novice craft beer types. I had a few glasses throughout the evening, and then killed the last pour the following afternoon.

I was hoping Half Acre would bring back Zucker Esel Pils, but I was very satisfied with this offering. Hopefully with the additional space they can produce a few more lagers in the future.

Poured from a 64oz growler into two pint glasses. Thanks to HeatherAnn for the assist!

A: Pours a lovely, unfiltered, deep amber color with two creamy fingers of off white head on top. Retention was fleeting with the foam quickly melting down to a thin collar that left no lace.

S: Whoa! Nice toasty biscuits drizzled with lemony hops.

T: Big flavors of toasted bread crusts, lemony hops, caramel malt, and bright fresh oak. Heather said it reminded her a little of Malt-O-Meal. Some subtle grapiness towards the finish.

M: Really quite full and spicy. Loads of sticky hops and dry toasted grains. Totally not what we were expecting.

O: A stupid good Lager. Perfect beer for a true Fall day...like today!
