Drank from 11.2 oz bottle in Brussels into a chalice at Delirium Cafe.

The beer pours an orangy color with a decent white head, and nice lacing. It has a ton of floating yeast which I love.

The aroma is sour and fruity, great combination.

Taste is dry, strong finish

Pours a clear, oddly yellow color. I mean I'm talking lager yellow. Nice white head that retains some of itself for quite some time. Nose is mellow but nice. Dough and very, very minor alcohol tones are there. It's kind of mild, but I like it. Flavor is smooth. Same as the nose. Mature tones of dough, spices, and fruits. This is an excellent tripel in my opinion. Nothing showy. Nothing wild. Nothing out of control. Smooth and easy. (though slightly boozy) Feel is slick and smooth on liquid. Carbonation is low with a very slight bite. Like I said, this is slightly hot, but I still think it's a pleasure to drink.

Crystal yellow body is revealed at pour with an unimpressive soapy white head that doesn't build or lace.

On the nose initially, my first remark was "delicious;" sporting lively citrus with some tangerine. The aroma however isn't as pleasant after a tasting, which consumed my impression of the beer and tainted the aroma slightly.

The taste is up-front with bitter, acidic tart and distinctly alcoholic notes too. This rude up-front taste becomes more approachable when sweet sugars come through as I continue through the glass while it warms, but the alcohol remains too evident without balance.

The carbonation is well suited to this prickly brew, with a sparkling sour-dry finish.

Sorry but this following comment is in french :

Appearance : bière légérement ambrée à la mousse persistante
Smell : nez de madère, miel et caramel
Taste and mouthfeel : ronde en bouche, maltée, belle amertume prolongée
Drinkability : une bonne bière dans le style triple

promising start, pours nice golden beer with large white head, nose of typical fruity belgian triple notes and yeast, first swallow is a pleasure. lots of light fruity/mildly citric notes come, with a mildly bitter finish.

after that, things go downhill. second and subsequent swallows are mildly-to-moderately metallic, and while the initial character remains present, any metal notes in a beer are a major negative for me.

I did not realize this was made by Huyghe until I put this review in; I am increasingly unimpressed with the bulk of their products.

BBE march 08. Nice and lasting white head and a golden beer with big flocks in it. Nose is very spicy giving koreander, sweet gale and alcohol plus some malting in the back. Not bad but get some soapy smell also that ruins most of the further good nose. Taste is very dry and shows alcoholcontent IMO too much and further IMO very pale and empty. Nothing bad in taste but nothing great to detect also as some moderate bitterness and hints of maltyness and something nutty. Drinkable but seen much better examples in this style.

looks golden and clear, with a huge, fluffy, thick white head. it looks like a snow globe paper weight ! very exciting visually, but not totally delicious looking. lots of little pieces floating around, very sedimentary, is this normal?
smells pretty good, malty, almost an apple sauce scent.
tastes strong. thick and very belgian. pretty bitter, aftertaste lingers.
this beer loses points from me because i cant see this as a great session beer, in other words the drinkability suffers from the intensity of the flavor. its definitely good ! just not the kind of beer that begs for another.

One caveat to this review, this bottle is well past it's due date.

This beer is a fairly brown shade of orange, with almost no head, just a thin white ring. The smell is bordering on fantastic. Big grape, white wine, sugar, licorice and yeast all make a big noise. Makes me want to keep smelling.

Taste is interesting. Sweetness like candy sugar followed by black licorice type taste. Dry finish where the black licorice is the defining flavour. It's not my favorite flavour, but it has a balance that is quite nice. Alcohol is barely apparent in the finish.

Mouthfeel is nice, smooth drinking and lightly carbonated. Could probably use a touch more carbonation, but that could be due to the age of the bottle. It is a drinkable beer especially when you count the ABV on it. Capable of catching one off guard.

The beer poured crystal clear pale golden straw until the yeast let loose and plunged into the glass to make a nasty jello appearance. The head was white and lasted well to lace the glass.

The aroma was spicy belgian yeast and a crisp maltiness with a substantial fruity aroma.

The flavor was deeptly fruity with a crisp belgian yeast spiciness. The bittering component was substantial enough to be present and to keep the beer from becoming sweet, yet hop flavor was absent.

The finish was dry with lingering spiciness. The body was medium. The alcohol presence reared it's head in the warming sensation after consumption.

11.2 ounce bottle. A very nicely done tripel, wish I had poured it a bit more carefully.

"Brewed according to the ancient abbey recipes."(On the back label.) Ahh. Some inkling tells me I am going to like this beer.

Imbibed at cellar temperature. Near uncontrollable off-white head: soapy, small-bubbled, with decent longevity. The colour is pale gold, light orange, apricot. Very clear. Slow moving Brussel's lace. The aroma is actually difficult to describe, such is its complexity: massive yeast, which conjures apples, pears, cherries, banana, vanilla, spices, cream, sweet candy; in a word, ambrosial, and appetising. The malt is detectable underneath the yeast, and it adds a nice balance. Alcoholic, phenolic smells, too. The hops are there, but you really need to sniff discerningly. The taste has a nice trippel feel: ultimately sweet on the front, warming alcoholic on the middle, with a near hard liquor feel on the finish. Flavours I tasted: musky yeast, strong strong fruits, syrup, malt, decent bitterness, sourbread, iron, in the finish, vanilla, and subtle nut flavours. The mouthfeel is hardy, robust, strong, full bodied. The aftertaste lingers for quite some while. Medium carbonation, perfect for the style. For me, drinkability loses marks in the massive yeast taste and cloying alcoholic presence in the mouth; nevertheless, far above average.

I am glad I ordered a case of 24 at the local liquor store. This should be a regular guest in my cellar for a good while.

A very good Trippel, and I like Trippels. Orange ice cream and big foam, beautiful and delectable. Yeasty and nice in the trippel aroma style.

Tip of the hat to IronDjinn for sending this one in a trade. A harder to get Belgium. Certainly underated. I think he got it aged, and it certainly did the trick. Special.

there seems to be a very powdery and odd looking sediment at the bottom of the bottles, be careful pouring and in general in handleing. that said it contains a bright golden liquid with a wide central column of active rushing bubbles who support a tall white head of foamy consistancy, very nice indeed as it leaves stalagtites and a banner of sinking lace but i do swirl a bit when i get excited and i was! the head looks like cloud number eight and a half and stands up even when left alone.
the perfume has a thin sugary malt and a subtle stand alone phenolic herbal note (i'm using the word phenolic for the first time! yay me) that i didn't find disagreeable in the least. there is a notable touch of ripe pear like fruit scents and a terrific breeze of a floral perfume that is delicate yet unstoppable - like a breeze. it's a feeling. there was one thing i didn't care for too much for and that was a major alcohol whiff after the brew had warmed just a bit from 50f, it was reminicent of white wine and seemed out of place in the picture. didn't really ruin it, on the nose or on the palate thank god.
the flavor begins crisply with a sweet and oddly bitter herbal note, it seems almost earthy or of dried herbs, even mushroom-esque if you may. then a great candied and burnt orange takes over in the middle and it has a mouthwatering sour finish of citric and tonic. this eventually abides with a spicier herbal residual presence on the palate. there was also no alcohol like on the nose, but when i detected it on the nose i was near the end of the glass.
the carbonation in this was outstandingly effervescent, it almost makes the beer. the body is light but not flawfully so, it is also not sticky and is slightly silky.
this beer was awe-inspiring, an 'oh my god' in every sip. yet all the same i think i'd split this with someone else because the acrobatic on the palate honestly gets tiring. i'd not like to drink two in a row, however i will certainly have two in the near future.
