Poured from bottle into crooked stave tulip. Purchased at World of Beer in Rochester, NY. The bottle label on this BA page looks way cooler than the plain label on this bottle...
Pours a deep black color with a bit of white lacing...
great coffee and sweet lacto aromas mixed with a hint of slight hint of funk...ever so slight, but something earthy or spicy or funky.
Very crisp sweet lacto stout flavor with a hint of woddy or earthiness but remains very sweet.
Super easy drinker...a bit bitter or tart but not overly anything..just all around balanced and way more personallity than most sweet stouts. Really nice brew...just wish it was more available and a bit less pricy.

330ml bottle, 7.2% ABV, and no longer named after the Swiss mountain coffee brand, but it does indeed still contain it.

This beer pours a hazy, very dark reddish cola hue, with three fingers of fizzy, foamy, and puffy beige head, which leaves some nicely thorough haunted forest branch lace around the glass as it steadily recedes.

It smells of earthy, bitter espresso coffee grounds, medium-sweet cocoa, slightly acidic cafe au lait, and a touch of leafy hops. The taste is rich, creamy milk chocolate, cut with a tart espresso edge - quite earthy, and somewhat woody - some mild sour black fruit, a wee bit of wet ash, and stunned leafy hops.

The bubbles are on the low side of the median, the body likewise under-performing where percentiles might be concerned - a thin medium-light weight at best, and actually somewhat smooth, once the espresso bitterness fades, at least. It finishes just off-dry, the coffee/chocolate morphing into a crackery tea-accompaniment sort of thing.

A decent enough strong coffee flavoured stout, however, so much so that the milky goodness of the style really has to struggle to be seen and heard (ok, tasted). It could also use a step up in weight class, as my perception of it becomes more and more like real cold coffee as it fades from memory.

A decent dark brown body with a thin, tan head. Your nose fills with dark, bitter chocolate, coffee grounds, and lightly burnt toast. Taste is overpowering sour with some bitterness fighting to be noticed. Weak, watery mouthfeel.

Wow, I sure wasn't expecting this off-taste. I probably should have rated it 1 or less for taste, but I think the other scores and this write-up pretty well sum up my experience.

11.2 oz. just barely more black than a brown cola pour. Whispy layer of light tan.

Aroma, a sugary malt and chocolate. Not really picking up any coffee.

Taste, More malt, caramel, light milk chocolate. Nice caramel latte. Really pretty nice.

Mouthfeel is a tad on the thin side. Carbonation seems a tad higher but doesn't really detract. The barely mid body detracts here more. Does drink very easy though.
Nice to try, though not real cheap here in the states.

Dark brown with a dark beige, rocky head that lasts a short while, leaving modest lacing. There is lots of carbonation on the glass and a viscous film with each sip.

The aroma opens with some strong chocolate and licorice then quickly turns to milk chocolate malt. There is also some roasted coffee.

Opens like a milk stout, sweet with roasted malt, quickly followed by a sour note. Otherwise not quite to style, but there is a big plum finish that lingers.

Light body with modest carbonation and some alcohol.

This is a good occasional beer that brings a varied experience to one’s afternoon of relaxation. It also warms well.

Pours a two finger light tan head that fades slowly to a ring leaving a good lace. Deep brown color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Coffee nose and flavor is chocolate and coffee. $6.00 for a 330ml bottle from Tully's Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Got from Beervana as an extra bottle dished out for the volunteers.

Pours a smaller fizzy head that fades fairly quickly to just a head covering, over almost pitch black beer with the slightest hint of light coming through dark brown edges.

Nose has nice rich chocolate, dark but creamy chocolate, then some espresso, freshly ground espresso beans bringing the slightest hint of roasted almost burnt acrid aroma but barely, and just a touch of dark fruits. Also hint of cocoa nibs.

Taste starts fairly bitter, with a tinny burnt flavor from the roasted malts and coffee, the tannic acrid and acidic coffee flavor from hot brewing before adding, but it's not too heavy. Then a light espresso flavor itself, with a slight roasted malt. Again chocolate but much less with a slight dark chocolate and hint of cocoa nibs. Luscious creamy feel maybe lactose in it. A drier but still bitter and slightly acrid finish, more coffee and a bit of dark chocolate, and more lactose.

Mouth is a bit heavier bodied, creamy, decent but lower carb.

Overall not bad, they brewed coffee before adding it and it brought the acrid acidic burnt coffee flavors, as well as some roasted malts, but it's not too bad. Nice chocolate and roasty aroma, and the coffee overall isn't huge, more of the burnt flavors than coffee itself.

Pours a dark brown color with some minor sediment and a creamy tan head. Aroma of cheap chocolate, slight ash, freeze-dried berries. Taste is slightly acidic with old coffee, milk chocolate, molding raspberries. Pretty uninspired but drinkable if a bit watery.

pours a murky brown that settles to an almost black with a decent sized light mocha head that sticks around for a bit and leaves some spotty lacing.

some chocolate milk, vanilla extract, a bit of coffee but its heavily creamed and sweetened.

hit first by some surprising sour flavors. not sure if its intended, but i definitely wasn't expecting it. behind that is the chocolate, coffee, and chocolate milk. its surprisingly decent for the odd mix of flavors.

medium bodied, almost, with tingly carbonation and a prickle left after the swallow from the lactic sourness.

I'm not sure if they intended it to taste like this, but its decent as it is. just odd.

Pours a very deep amber almost black, but for a nice amber hue. Not much head just a little mocha lace.

Smells very malty. Espresso and slight caramel characteristics.

A slight Belgian twang accompanies coffee and roasted flavors.

Very light and refreshing for a beer with coffee. Interesting concept. I was told it was a sour coffee beer, and I could see that. The flavors play off each other nicely. I'm surprised this beer does not get more love. I guess people are looking for that big RIS flavor.

Poured into a tulip. Nice dark amber body that appears black when in the tulip. There is a thin tan head that leaves a few bubbles.

The aroma is sweet molasses with a bit of mocha. The coffee aromas aren't particularly potent; this smells good anyway.

This is very sweet, not too roasty. Again, the coffee is almost nonexistent. This is just very sweet without any complexity with a gnarly aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is slightly cola-like. The body is light to medium.

This just isn't that good. I don't know if it's the freshness or what, but I don't see myself finishing this one.

Poured from a bottle into my Deschutes Tulip...

A - Pours a very dark brown. I see no light shining thru this one. A very bubbly light brown head leaves some spotty lacing as it fades.

S - Espresso all over. I get some hints of chocolate malts, but the prodominant smell is espresso.

T - Espresso as expeced, dark chocolate, and slightly woodsey. Leaves a coffee aftertaste, but besides that, finishes rather dry.

M - Light-medium mouthfeel. A whole lot lighter than I prefer my stouts to be. Borderline watery.

O - I guess I was expecting something different with this espresso stout. Maybe I was spoiled with the Peche Mortel. Either way, this beer is adequate, but not great by any means.

This is a sour stout, yes a SOUR stout.

A:Pours a dark stout-like appearance, but with a slight reflection of light that appears as a dark red around the edges of the glass.

S: Lots of coffee. Some roasted notes as well. No aromas that you get from a typical sour...

T: Definite sour flavors. There are coffee notes, and roasted notes. I am really getting sour plus stout coffee flavors in this.

M: Medium mouth feel, very drinkable. Nothing really lingers on the finish.

O: This stout really caught me off guard with the sour flavor. I would not be surprised to learn that this one has added wild yeast or something else that creates a sour flavor. With the roasted and coffee flavors of the traditional stout, this is actually a very enjoyable sipping beer.

Overall a good example of the style. Yes, it's a coffee-tasting beer...we knew that going in. The smell is warm with just a hint of coffee, and pleasant toasted vanilla overtones. Taste has a nice balance like a well-pulled espresso diluted with a bit too much milk and sugar. A little thin feeling on the tongue, and very slight amount of bitterness on the finish to remind us we're drinking beer after all. Tasty like dessert, strong but not brilliant in the final analysis.

Poured into a snifter.

Pours a jet black, with a few fingers of tan head that slowly drops. Lacing evident.

Aromas of strong dark mocho java, sweet, roasty, a hint of anise. Cocoa.

Flavors of a mocho java shake, cocoa, coffee, roasted, a little "tinny" slightly metallic taste. Bitterness mainly from the roasted grains. Hint of anise with a roasty finish that is short.

Mouthfeel is light, not quite watery, odd considering the strength of the beer.

Nice, drinkable beer, but a light mouthfeel for the style. Overall, a very nice dessert beer. Try with a scoop of ice cream, coffee or chocolate flavored.
