(March 20, 2010)
Coming from Michigan I have high expectations on micro-brews having been to about 12 different breweries. When a group of friends and myself walked into CCB we were looked down on. There was no clear area for ordering beer. The bar was packed with patrons and there were 3 guys working behind the bar. They were doing various things, like cleaning glasses, polishing growlers and talking amongst themselves. All while we were standing there, waiting to order. It took them about 10 minutes to acknowledge us and finally serve us. The beer was good but not stellar or better then anything I have had up to this point. The tasting room was too small and they had only beer, no snacks, nothing. The overall attitude of this place was that "hey, we have a beer that was rated 100 on ratebeer so we can act like we are the best and you can bow down before us if you want service". Well, I have news for you, no thanks and I will take my business elsewhere.
As for the beer, I had about 6 different samplings. The IPA (Jai Alai) was good, but not a traditional tasting IPA. The top beer there was their imperial stout (Zhukov's imperial stout). Very well balanced and flavorful.
Overall, if you decide to go to the tasting room then be sure that you either wear your "members only" jacket our figure out what the password is to get served beer.

I have visited this place twice and both times I have experienced the worst service I have experienced at a bar. On my first trip the server refused to serve me a sampler (paddle of 4 beers). The server looked at me, gave me a face, and said you will have to wait and left my presence and never came back. The second bartender did serve me, but did not smile, interact, or look at me. On my second trip I visited the establishment on a Thursday Morning. My wife and I were the only people at the bar. The server (women) did not greet us and we were waiting at the bar for about 10 minutes before she approached us. When we were asking questions, she was very short and when I asked for a sample, she began to display signs of frustration and made us feel like we were bothering her. In addition, when we finished our first order of beers she was talking to someone and completely forgot about us. I had to get up and approach her. This was the worse experience of my life. Beer is about a culture that is close, open, and friendly. This place has not shown me this sign of the beer experience regarding the service. The crowed is a different story and a great crowed of people.
What really bothers me is that I love this place, their beer, and the atmosphere. However, good service is becoming harder to find and there are many other beer places to visit and many other great beers to drink. I will visit again and I hope that my experience is equal to the many great reviews I have read on this site.

Had traveled to Orlando for vacation and made a point to make the hour drive to Cigar City in Tampa. From the outside, reminds me of many craft breweries in Southern California, industrial park feel, warehouses, etc. Inside, all manner of brewana, swag, sourvenirs, etc. Very minmimal bottle availability in terms of variety, sadly, but I sort of assumed that going in.
Large amount of beer available on tap, over 20 I believe. No stouts, or any of the humidor series sadly, mostly a mix of Pales, IPA's, browns, porters, a scotch ale, berliner weiss, a pumpkin ale, etc. Good diversve mix. but not a single barrel aged offering on? Guess being a Hoarder Society member in the Bruery has me spoiled. Large digital beer board in the back space, and card type board display at the front bar.
The Atmosphere and decor were a bit mixed for me. Given the great weather, and some lush greenery outside, inside, it was a bit dark & dingy in some area's, and even outdated. Some of the front bar, and some of the chairs seemed from out of an old bowling alley, imho. Some sky lights, but few windows. Stark contrast from say the Cigar city pub, the brewery's labels, and reach. Granted, seems they put the money where it should go, into the beer, and that equipment. However, seemed a large remodel makeover might add to the space, and even be needed in the tasting room, imho.
Quality craft brewery overall, certainly in my top 100 for the country, but, if I'm being honest, I left a bit disapointed in my experience, only because I had a higher expecation for the tasting room, and what offerings would be available, but that could just have been bad timing. Possibly unfounded opinion, from my perspective, I traveled cross country, so I wanted it to be a world class experience, since what I've been lucky to have had shared with me at festivals & bottle shares, beers from cigar city, that have been fantastic, but both the space, and the offerings, while excellent, fell a bit short of my hopes.
With this said, the place was busy for the several hours my wife and I were there trying pretty much all of the taps they had, and they are doing just fine, and will likely continue to do so.

A. Tense and usually busy... People are very pushy and not very polite. You have to work to get a beer...
Q The normal stuff is fair and the limited stuff is really good but infrequent.
S moderate... There is never enough servers and it takes forever to get anything. A lot of the bar tenders are very rude.
S they have there usuals and sometimes they have something out of the ordinary...
Bottles are very pricey, drafts are usually reasonable.
I think ccb as a whole is getting a little arrogant and elitist... I guess that is one of the growing pains...

This place gets busy on friday and saturday nights, but unfortunately that's about it. I last stopped in on a Wednesday night, and was surprised that only the outdoor seating was filling up. The service was great, and they have one of the best flights/samplers in the area if your interested.

Finally got to visit on the Wednesday between Christmas and New Years. They were super busy and that was unexpected for them in the middle of a week.
The atmosphere is a warehouse with a tiny cramped tasting room. Arrangement of tables accomodated a dart board area that while might be fun definitely limited the seating in an already overcrowded spot. It was cool to have to go through a part of the brewery to get to the bathroom. The tour was hard to hear and basic. I did see some Marshall Zuchov on in apple brandy barrels. Hope I get to try that someday.
The quality was great. To be expected from this brewery. Top notch.
The service was friendly and overwhelmed. The selection was very limited the day I went. Some great guest beers on tap, but nothing fancy or rare on tap from Cigar City while I was there. I did buy a bottle of cedar aged zuchov. though.
Five bucks got a tour, a glass, and a beer. Very reasonable.

Well was in Gainesville in the early am and talked the wife into making a run to Tampa, and glad we did. We got there on a day where they were doing a raffle on the Barrel aged RIS, we entered but did not get lucky, anyway was crowded to the max, lol good times
Its your standard corner micro brewery and tasting room. Since I can compare the two BBC and CCB, We have to say that CCB comes out on top here also.
The bar is 90 degrees to the entrance, the restrooms are in the warehouse/brewery area, so its a hot trip trip back and forth. No smoking inside is great. The bar is nice, new of course and had about 20 chairs yesterday. Very friendly folks who actually introduced themselves!!. They had a large ratebeer crowd and a few BA folks all were very friendly. We got lucky as they had a cask of the 110k+OT Batch #3 so that was an early treat. so it s was a wild day. The beer list had 2 barrel aged RIS, in sniffer's, and you could buy 4 beers in bomber, the only beer that was hard to drink was the Gruit. which even they admitted required an open mind, I drank it and it was weird but not that terrible.
Anyway the got no food but the let you go get pizza and they usually have open tables and a less crowded Saturday but hey we love it when its crazy had a great time too bad we had to drive all the way back to Jax.
Beer list was nice, not for your average BMC drinker, yea it ran off the non craft lovers.

Stopped into the Cigar City Tasting Room on a recent trip to Tampa. The bar is a small off-shoot of the brewery itself. Above the bar are some TV's where you can watch the brewers in action. The selection is good, with all the seasonal and regular Cigar City brews on tap, as well as some visiting taps (Sam Adams Revolutionary Rye was there at the time). The bartender was knowledgeable and the place was pretty cozy. Only knock... no food. Overall though, it's a great place to relax after work, before or after dinner with some great Florida brews!

A define must stop if you are in the area. They have a list of beers that is changing daily and the sample prices are very reasonable. Each 4oz glass is either 1.50 or 2.00 and the pints are 5.00-6.00. They offer a brewery tour for 5$ that gets you a pint glass to take home and they fill it with one of their lower alcohol beers.

After two months of living in Florida I finally visited Cigar City. A very basic layout. A nice bar with swivel stools to your left as you walk in and a few tables to the right for larger parties. A little room in back as well. Quite comfortable atmosphere very laid back. The staff did seem a little rushed and a bit grumpy. I had forgotten my snifter that I bought so I went back in and mentioned to the bartender all that he said was erh. I made sure to say thankyou and got no response. The selection is marvelous however. All Cigar city stuff on tap and two guest taps. I did mark this as a bit pricey. I don't understand some breweries are marking up there beer. Dogfish Head does it and so does Cigar City. I can drive 5 mins from my home in Clearwater to Total Wine and get the same bottle for a dollar less than the actual brewery sells for. I simply do not understand this. Anyway all and all a good experience.
