Style | ABV
Schwarzbier |  5.50% ABV

Availability: Rotating. on-tap (10), growler (3), nitro-tap (1), bottle (1)

Notes:
A traditional schwarzbier, Ligero pours brown to light black with notes of roasted coffee and nutty expressions. The flavor has elements of smoke with roasted espresso beans, sticky caramel-covered almonds and notes of dry dark chocolate in the finish.

Had at a Whole Foods beer festival. The CCB reps put this in a couple bottles for sampling.

Poured a deep blak with brown edges. Got a finger of light khaki head in top.

The aroma on this beer is a cigar mans dream! Rich oily ligero leaves, coffee, nutty with a touch of cigar smoke.

Taste isn't as cigar focused but has great coffee, almond, dark chocolate taste with some nice ligero flavors finishing on the back end.

Lighter in body and easy drinking. An appropriate amount of carbonation and a nice smokey oily finish.

Overall, this was a treat! If I would have had a cigar on me I would have been all set. I wish this was bottled because I would be soaking it all up. I have been around Germany and stayed in dusseldorf for a while and I wish their schwarzbiers were this good.

I had this beer poured from nitro tap at the brewery, poured into a pint glass.

A: Dark Opaque Hue, Passes No Light, Thick Creamy Off White Head, Great Lacing

S: Dark Mildly Roasted Chocolate Malts, Mild Coffee, Mild Caramel

T: Dark Roasted Malts, Chocolate, Coffee

M: Great Carbonation, Medium to Full Bodied, Mildly Malty, Mildly Sticky

Overall, a pretty solid black lager made better with the nitro tap, added creaminess and smoothed out the flavors.

Serving type: nitro-tap

On draft at Churchkey in D.C.

The beer is dark brown with a small tan head. The aroma is roasty, with notes of coffee and chocolate. Nice tasting beer. Light and simple. Easy drinking. A touch of hop bitterness in the finish. Well balanced. This is a nice brew that I wouldn't mind drinking again.

From tap to tasting glass at The Funky Buddha Lounge on 6/2/12
*From notes

A: This one's reasonably dark and pretty clean brown. A minimal tan head and thin collar top this small glass of beer.

S: Medium roast coffee, tea leaves and milk chocolate.

T: Dry autumn leaves. A bit of dusty cocoa and dry malt round out the flavor profile.

M: The feel is decent if not slightly thin. Overall the texture, body and such are a bit better then just ok.

O: A decent stab at a Schwarzbier. I can't say it's one I'll spout off about at my next tasting, but I'd probably have a couple if offered.

Serving type: on-tap
