750 ml bottle generously shared at the Peg's bottle share on 3/8/13.
A- Pours a dark, viscous black with a nice dark mocha colored head.
S- Excellent aroma, loads of dark chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and oak, the chili and cinnamon flavors are very mild. The barrel-character is really amazing and jumps out of the glass at you.
T- Again, really excellent, all the same traits as in the aroma, with lots of dark chocolate, which is a bit stronger with a moist chocolate cake flavor, vanilla/oak and rich, warm bourbon barrel flavors, as well as some mild chili, cinnamon and roasted grain flavors towards the finish.
M- Full-bodied, with a smooth, pretty sticky but not too thick feel.
O- A world-class beer, the barrel traits complement the base beer very well and the flavors are rich and just delicious, I have nothing but praise for this beer.

OK, so thanks to Avalon68 for the chance to review this gem.
From what I hear, a high risk vs. reward bottle. I am willing to take the chance.
A dark brown creamy head forms and slowly settles to a dollop of cream atop the glossy deep brown beer. Another couple moments later this has faded to a mere ring of foam... No real lace to speak of.
A sharp aroma scares me (have not tasted as I type here) and yet there is clearly some chili pepper here.. A hint of cinnamon. A touch of oxidation is present.
Ahh, my fears are allayed as the flavor shows no sign of sourness. Much better than the aroma. I am a bit shocked at the front row presence of the chili peppers here. Cinnamon is more present in the aroma. In the flavor it adds to the depth of the chili pepper flavor. Mid palate you are struck with some nice dark chocolate notes. They come on stage, strike hard and then quickly retreat. What’s interesting is that as I work through the glass, the spice builds and the prickly nature of the chilis takes hold. I like it. A bit of depth from the aging (barrels) but much more muted than expected. A touch of vanilla near the finish that seems to highlight the cinnamon for a brief moment. One thing is clear... A lot going on here...
Honestly a bit thin for what I expected. In fact, thinner than I remember the standard version to be... But that’s just off of memory. A bit slick.
What’s so interesting is my perception of how the body is holding this back a bit. Very nice and a very complex beer. So glad that I had a chance to try it....
