Our flagship beer in the Humidor Series is Humidor Series India Pale Ale. We start with Jai Alai IPA as a base beer and add the cedar during secondary fermentation. The cedar provides a perfect balance with the assertive hops of Jai Alai to create an entirely new experience.

Picked up a 750 ml bottle in Brandon FL, had some at the tap room too, liked it a lot...

Pours a chill hazed amber with 2 fingers of rocky cream colored head. Superior head retention & average lacing

S: Much woodyness & some grapefruiit & peppery notes. I LOVE the nose on this!

T: Follows the nose, some honey malt & breadyness as well. Grapefruit, honey malt & cedar woodyness are the main players as this warms, some pineyness too at the back of the throat. Finishes woody, dry, grapefruiity & wth some honey sweetness, plus just a hint of booze warmth

MF: Medium biodied creamy, nice balance & warming sensation

I like the way this is drinking, have had some cedar aged beers like Boulevard's Seeyoulater dopplebock, where I wasn't thrilled with the results. This is a nice variant on the straight up jai lai, which is also top notch in my book as well. I think this presented much better as a bottled beer for that's worth... This one really worked for me

Happy to pick this one up along with some 110K+OT batch #3, also happy to receive my Sierra Nevada XXX glass in the mail today (unfortunately I wont be cracking another one of those open for a little while).

A: Poured into my new SNXXX bubble glass, this beer pours an opaque golden rod yellow with a fluffy tan head that is quick to dissipate. I would rate this brew higher on appearance, but the head is a little too weak for another .5 points.

S: The aroma on this brew is amazing. I'm giving it a 5 for uniqueness. This is my first cedar aged beer, and I can see why they call this the Humidor Series. It literally has notes of fresh cigars in a humidor. Very earthy, woody, peppery. The aroma is just fresh, one of the freshest smelling beers I have. Behind all that is a slight layer of citrus.

T:The hop bite is present, but tamed by the cedar aging. The flavor follows suit with the tobacco notes in the aroma. Nutty, woody and smokey. For an IPA this brew is well balanced with a strong, but relaxed malt character. I sense a light sweetness, but the malt significantly adds to the body.

M: The mouthfeel is well carbonated and full. Chewy at times.

D: Drinkability....I'm gonna rate this beer on how satisfied I am after one, and that is very satisfied. This brew has the complexity of a big beer that I want, with a fairly moderate ABV. I am a fan of cigars. There are a lot of topics in the forums about pairing beers and cigars, and my personal opinion is that it should never be done. Both of them cancel out the flavor experience that is unique to them both. Humidor Series IPA is the ticket if you want to experience a cigar and beer all in one without sacrificing either's quality of the experience.

32 oz growler, from CCB draft room.
Poured into SN Snifter

A: 2 fingers creamy off white carbonated head, tight bubbles, leaves nice lacing on the sides of the glass. Appearance is similar to normal jai alai, ambery orange color, some nice bubbles on the bottom of the glass. Head stays around for a while, looks really really nice

S: Mango, Citrus, Pine, with a slight caramel and a full bodied bready malt smell emanate from the glass. slight alcohol is present. some slight woody, earthy notes are present.

T: Really sweet and malty upfront like honey, then a wave of delicious piney, citrusy, mangoey, pineappley hops comes crashing through. Finish is really really nice, nice and dry with a lingering sweet, earthy, vanilla-y wood taste from the cedar. Wow. there is a slight burn from the alcohol but it's well masked.

M: Full bodied, this one is a sipper but it is nice. The carbonation lingers and tickles your tastebuds. not too heavy, but on the heavy side for an IPA.

O: despite its (miiniscule) flaws, this is an amazing beer, you really can't ask for much more. Everyone praises DFH for experimentation but look no further for the king, than in florida at CCB, for their Firkin's and wood aged beers are some of the most flavorful, fun, and awesome beers I've ever tasted

Thanks to Gtreid for sending this one my way. I split the bottle two ways into strait pints. There was a generous two finger white fluffy head that lasted quite some time and the lace followed the beer wonderfully down the glass. The body of the brew was hazy darker orange in color.

I was quite impressed at what the cedar ageing has accomplished with this brew I had the most intense pepper aromas I have ever experienced in an IPA. The citrus and fresh grass aromas' I typically expect were there too. The flavors were Intense as well that pepper being right up front with a nice bitter and a slight malt sweetness to balance this brew out. It had a medium body with nice dry finish and great carbonation.

I really enjoyed this brew and hated to see the glass go. I would easily buy or trade for this brew again. Great job Cigar City

Drank from a 1 pint 9.4 fl.oz. bottle
Served in a pint glass

The beer poured a slightly hazed, deep orangey-amber color with a billowing, four-finger head of light tan foam. Thick, sticky chunks of lacing coated the glass from top to bottom. Possibly the most impressive lacing I have ever seen.

Lots of powdery, dry yeastiness came through in the nose. Slightly spicy. Apparently some of this spicy dryness was from the cedar aging. Moderately hoppy and fruity. Citrus notes were apparent. A touch sweet. Caramel malts were also noticeable, and they became more prominent as the beer warmed.

The flavor profile was super hoppy and complex, yet very well balanced. Lots of caramel malt sweetness up front. This beer almost falls into barleywine territory. Peaches, apricots, tangerines and tropical fruit notes came through in the center. Mango and pineapple were quite apparent. Slightly piney on the back end. The finish was crisp and just a touch bitter. I would guess that the cedar aging helped mellow out much of the bitterness from the hops.

The body was somewhat syrupy yet thinner than I anticipated. Carbonation was fine and medium.

Drinkability was impressive, as this beer is quite tasty and hides its alcohol prowess remarkably well.

I sampled this beer both on-tap and from the bottle and each time I thought it was fantastic. My only complaint would be the somewhat thin mouthfeel and the fact that I could hardly detect any cedar nuances. In any case, this is an interesting and highly drinkable IPA.

Got out of a 750 ml bottle.

It has a hazy bronze. Some small bubbles. It has a nice foamy white head that leaves some lacing. Has a cedar scent, that's for sure.

And like the scent, the cedar really comes through. Smokey. There's a rye sort of taste in the back of the mouth. Very complex. Not as bitter as most IPA's. Nice floral undertone. Some grape or dark fruit. Lovely.

In spite of a slight geyser upon opening (okay, it was a massive geyser), this beer pours with a manageable head, ivory colored and stable atop a hazed cinnamon-orange body. Kinda like a hefeweizen. Kinda.

The aroma is gorgeous. Full disclosure: the smell of cedar makes me very nostalgic as it reminds me of the time I spent in Japan, and my favorite beer is Hitachino Nest JCA, also aged in cedar. This smells like that – but ramped up a notch or two. Full on peppery cedar dominates, almost to the exclusion of all other aromas, but they're there: guava, cinnamon, lime, dulce de leche, bitter otange, coriander... I could go on, but I'll just stop there and say that it's lovely.

The flavor is more cedary spice, lots of wholegrain toast spread with dark honey, apple pie, resinous bitterness, and clove. There seems to be a touch of tannins here as well, giving this a slightly tea-like edge. Soft carbonation leads into a dry finish with a lingering woody bitterness.

Cigar City Humidor Series IPA

A- cloudy amber/orange with a big fluffy slightly off white head. Lacing all the way down the glass.

S- the smell is great. A lot of passion fruit, pineapple, mango. Really like a sweet tropical fruit salad.

T- it tastes the same as the smell. The hop flavors are on the fruity/aromatics side with a bunch of tropical fruits. Has a slight hop bitterness to balance it out. I'm not sure if I tasted the cedar.

M- medium mouthfeel, a bit sticky, bit low on carbonation (it needed more). Has kind of a fuzzy fruit nectar mouthfeel. Very drinkable.

O- I liked this beer a lot. It's not an IPA for hop heads. It's a very mellow laid back type of IPA. I like that its a bit more about the flavor of the beer without trying to crank up the hops. Very good, very drinkable.

A-Pours a hazy amber with a one finger white head that has good retention and leaves spotty lacing.

S-Citrus and piney hops at the forefront, an earthy woodiness as well and a touch of biscuity malt. Smells really good.

T-The Cedar adds a very interesting and pleasing aspect here. The hops (citrus and pine) still lead but the woody cedar is prevalent and is a wonderful complement to the hops. They work really well together. Add a touch of malt backbone and you have a delicious IPA.

M-Carb is a bit prickly, but it works for this beer. Smooth, with a dry finish.

D-This bomber went down extremely easy and I wanted another, but stopped myself.

The regular Jai Alai is a decent beer, but it didn't knock my socks off. But the Cedar adds an entirely new layer to this beer and it works in a big way. I'm already planning a trip back to pick up some more. A great job by CC!

Slightly hazy orange amber with huge frothy tan head with uneven lacing but great retention, however it separated from the glass and looked very clumpy. It also became very cloudy at the end of the bottle. Aromas of cigar tobacco, cedar and citrus. Balance of citrus and floral hops with an earthy malty sweetness. A dry cedar finish is not too potent. The hops are subdued thpugh they progress a little but never to the point of being overpowering. A little peppery near the end. Full bodied despite the huge head seemed quite moderate in carbonation.

Wow, this is a great beer. I had no problem drinking the entire 750ml bottle and did not want to share- good thing I have a second! This is a very smooth easy drinking beer despite being a little higher in ABV and being barrel aged. As an ex-smoker, that cigar aroma was heavenly and I almost wanted one to enjoy at the same time. CC Brewing might almost make it worthwhile to live in Tampa again. Almost, but not quite. I'll just have to settle for bribing friends and family to bring me bottles.

a: This was a chill-hazed golden coppery color, on the dark side for an IPA. It poured with a big, craggy, sticky white head.

s: Hard to believe this beer has been aged in anything. The first thing I noticed was the fresh, vibrant citrusy hops. Plenty of lemon peel with a little grapefruit. The cedar in the backround is subtle and comes across as spicy rather than woody. Very nicely done!

t: Pretty big departure from the smell. The cedar has muted the hops to the point that they seem herbal rather than citric. Some lemony elements do remain however. The cedar is pretty prominent at the finish, and it is distinctly "woody". Still, all this combined with just a hint of caramel sweetness makes for an interesting and undeniably delicious beer.

m: Gently creamy carbonation and a big, silky smooth body.

d: I entered into this with some trepidation. Aging an IPA for any purpose always sounds like a bad idea to me. I have to give these guys credit though. They handled this with finesse and it came together beautifully.

Got this one from the Whole Foods located behind the brewery when I was in Tampa less than a month ago. Here we go...

A- Poured from the wonderful 750 ml. bottle into my Cigar City pint glass. Pours yellow/orange with a slight haze to it. Head starts off strong and dissipates quickly.
S- Not much in this department. Normal, I suppose.
T- The best part! At first, you get a great citrus flavor similar to grapefruit. Very nice balance, not overwhelmed with bitterness. I really enjoy the flavors. When you thought you were done the cedar kicks into a smooth finish.
Nice!
M- I might have ranted too much in the Taste department, but well balanced and perfect carbonation.
D- I wish we could get this in Panama City. Maybe one day.

-Bye

From my notes

A - Hazy coppery orange with a big fluffy meringue head. Great retention. The lacing is insane.

S - Glorious slick hops. Good dose of malt and hint of cedar. These smells only stronger would get a 5.

T - The same slick hops are there but the malt seems less prevalent than the smell. The cedar adds a very subtle and unique flavor. As it warms the malt opens up more. Nice and bitter in the finish. Very good.

M - Thick & sticky. Good carbonation.

D - Very, very drinkable.

Pours a nice mahogany color with a decent fluffy white head. Smells like cedar. Taste is spicy, peppery, with a little bit of citrus and a lot of cedar. Light to medium body and really drinkable. The Cedar blends with the hops perfectly making for a very balanced yet complex flavor. If you like cigars at all, this beer is worth a try. It looks, smells and tastes like a cigar box and I mean that in the best way possible. Not a huge fan of the Jai Alai IPA by itself but it is totally transformed with cedar aging. Really enjoyed this brew both times I've been able to try it.

Received in a trade with Sebletitje- thanks!

A: pours a deep orange / gold, relatively clear, nice 1 finger head, slightly off white, great retention

S: the aroma starts with some juicy fruity hops, lots of mango and orange, the cedar comes through pretty strong at the end, this smells intriguing

T: the hops are up front, very fresh and citrusy, slightly sweet with very little bitterness, the cedar comes through and provides a interesting wood character... it balances nicely with the hops and has a touch of bready malts on the end. It is amazing how much the cedar transforms this beer, and I must say I like this one better

MF: medium body, very smooth texture, carbonation is relatively low but it works nicely with the beer

D: wow, this is delicious and I could drink a lot of it. Unfortunately I only have access to CC brews through trade, so it can't be a standby. Overall, very nice balance and refreshing flavor.

750 ml bottle from the Rare Beer of the Month Club; poured into a goblet.

A - Beer is orange-amber and slightly cloudy but not opaque. It has a thin, incomplete layer of off white foam and lots of lacing on the glass.

S - The aroma is amazingly complex and inviting. Its base is the super-hoppy, grapefruit smell of a classic West Coast IPA. On top of that is the spicy wood aroma of a fine cigar box and a whiff of alcohol.

T - The taste is first dominated by hop bitterness and grapefruit notes, then the cedar wood flows in. The wood both mellows and adds complexity to the taste. There are also some malt notes and alcohol.

M - The mouthfeel is light enough to be drinkable but has enough body to be suitable for the style. The alcohol is warming.

D - This beer is definitely for sipping and contemplating, not chugging. American IPAs are not my thing and I'm not a hophead, but I am a huge fan of this beer. The flavor and aroma are among the most complex and interesting I've ever had. The cedar character is incredible and very similar to the effect Dogfish Head gets with Palo Santo wood.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a thick, hazy, honey like gold with a billowing copper head. Excellent head retention which left behind much sticky lacing in its wake. Attractive and very reminiscent of a jar of fresh honey.

S: Upfront notes of cedar and sweet orange-like citrus which slowly fade into a more earthy aroma. Some undercurrent notes of pine are also present. The aroma is pleasant, enticing, and by no means overpowering

T: First and foremost, a mild taste of the Spanish cedar makes itself known which then quickly transitions into notes of sweet citrus predominantly characterized by tangy orange and lemon. The hop profile has certainly been mellowed with the cedar aging which has notably enhanced the overall citrus profile. A moderate, albeit still mellow, bitterness resides in the finish which lingers with a subtle, slightly resiny earthiness.

M: Smooth, medium body with light carbonation. Slightly oily and sticky which is in perfect balance with the style. The beer is not overly coating but leaves a very pleasant, dry aftertaste as it continues to explore the palate. For 7.5% abv, the alcohol profile is entirely innocuous.

D: Enticing and very drinkable. Before I was aware, I had finished the entire 750ml in no time and was sad to see the final drops come out of the glass.

Overall, the CCB Humidor Jai Alai exists and incredible example of a well crafted, cedar aged IPA. I'd recommend anyone seeking a unique experience to give this beer a try whenever the chance arises.

T: Almost like Jai Alai with a ton of ceder...lots of wood, wet wood, bitter hops, touch of vanilla and a little spice. Hops are pretty citrusy, but the wood plays well off it

MF/D: Semi-dry feel, medium in body, ceder finish.

Notes: Really glad I picked this up...very unique, but very delicious. Not necessarily to-style or anything, but I can't seem to put it down.

Tremendously aromatic brew. The next county over can tell this is cedar aged. Pour is hazy for an IPA, dark orange or grapefruit in color. Aroma is like a cedar mill aged in cedar casks with extra cedar juice. Slight tinges of citrus and hop oils behind that. Taste is fresh hop leaf on a bed of cedar chips. A distinctive taste for this IPA, which is rare these days, as so many are good but copycats with little variation. Finish is dry and bitter with some citrusy hop flavors. A true original here. Wouldn't mind putting down a bottle or two to see how the aggressive cedar flavor changed.

This beauty of a beer is the cigar city jai alai ipa aged on cedar spirals. Taking the tour a couple months back was very informative on how they age the beers on different woods and the amount of time that they do it for. Pours a nice murky orange tinged color. Great nose of cedar wood on this one, everybody does oak so the subtle smell of the cedar has been such a breath of fresh air. Has that usual jai alai finish that i like, very hoppy especially for a regular IPA, most DIPA don't have this much aroma. Stockpile this if you can, seems harder and harder to get

I've had this beer a few times now on tap and from the growler and while they were good both times, out of the bottle this stuff is like liquid crack...

Glowing golden with a small thin head... Almost cask-like in its appearance... Sort of thick...

Big juicy hop aromas mix with this earthiness from the cedar and have this one on point... There's almost a sandalwood or patchouli aroma to this and I'm guessing it's from the cedar.. Terrific..

That sharp biting hoppiness found in the regular Jai Alai is toned down and smoothed out by the cedar aging here... The sweetness of the malts is more pronounced without stealing the show... This is still an IPA but you can tell it's been hanging out for a while... As I stated earlier, this is almost like having it from a cask or something...

Very smooth and creamy all the way through... amazing stuff..

A terrific beer!

Poured into a Victory HopDevil Nonic. Heavy blanket of slightly off white head. Solid orange body with a little haze. Alcohol lacing and legs are both nice. Head retention is really good as well.

Woah...right up front is a strong cedar smell, which carries all the way through. If you've ever opened up a cedar chest or cigar box then you will pick up this smell right away. The hops are sitting right behind the cedar. Hops have a piney citrus/orange aroma, faint grapefruit. Not sure how fresh this bottle is but I would love to smell how the hops interact with this one fresh. Sweet malty/bready aromas come in at the middle.

Cedar hits right upfront, just like in the aroma. The cedar flavor rises up to the roof of the mouth. A good amount of bitterness from the middle to end and the palate drys out nicely in the finish. Grapefruit and pine come in quickly but also leave rather quick...grapefruit lingers on a little bit longer. The cedar is definitely the star of the show but isn't so overwhelming that this isn't enjoyable. I find this one to be fairly drinkable.

Unlike any IPA I've ever had, but then again adding cedar during fermantation is something probably only Cigar City does. Another stellar/interesting beer by this brewery!

750ml bottle at ginos in Tampa
poured a nice orange color with a lot of foam. Nice pacing and small head stuck around.
Smell was similar to jai alai but more subtle. Citrusy but didn't have the pop of regular ipa. Taste of pine citrus and just a bit mellow for what I was anticipating, the cedar must mute some of the hops. Not a bad thing just after jai alai was expecting major hop pop on tongue. Medium mouthfeel for ipa with nice aftertaste. Overall great job again by cigar city! I was just expecting more reading they just aged jai alai in Spanish cedar and after paying 15$ for 22oz. Glad I did, but know that your better off saving some ding and sticking with the reggie jai alai!
