Thanks to miamimichael2 for the trade.
Bottle poured into a Nonic pint.

A- Pours a nice nutty brown color with 2 fingers of foamy tan to almost light brown colored head that leaves mild lacing on the glass.

S- Nice and toasty smelling. Hint's of chocolate and coffee, but just barely. Sweet toffee and caramel. Nutty, toasty malts.

T- Follows nose well. Lot's of toasty malts, sweet toffee and caramel, but not overly sweet though. Slight metallic taste. Some earthy flavored hops on the finish. Leaves a light roasted coffee aftertaste. Pretty taste brown ale.

M- Solid medium body, not overly carbonated at all. Seems spot on for style.

O- I enjoyed this one. Wish their beers were available where I live.

Huge thanks to Zappbranagan for the extra!!

A- A cloudy, murky medium brown body with a thin bubbly tan head.

S- Sweet toasted malt, a dash of piney hops, hazelnut, oats, sugary bread.

T- Nice sweet hazelnut brown ale taste in the beginning, with a malty body that has a bread/oat taste.

M- Pretty smooth, medium bodied, perfect carbonation.

O- Very solid brown ale, not too sweet, but great flavor.

Appearance: Murky reddish-brown hue with a one finger tan head.

Aroma: Caramel malt presence. A touch of sweet coffee.

Taste: First thing I notice is a slight watery taste. However, it opens up a little more after the initial bit and approaches robustness as it goes down. There is a caramel fudge taste along with just a hint of black coffee bitterness on the end. Tastes a little murky, just like the appearance. There are some good flavors in there, they are just not being balanced correctly. Surprising amount of bitterness from the coffee-like malt in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: A little on the thin side but the oatmeal seems to be doing it's job as this is a decently smooth brew. Above average drinkability.

Final Thoughts: Definitely not the best Brown Ale out there. It would probably go well with a cigar as there isn't enough flavor here to really make it stand on its own.

330ml bottle bought online from Beersofeurope.co.uk

Poured a deep mahogany nutty brown colour. Nice creamy tan head poured very tight, thick and foamy with a whipped meringue like topping then faded fairly quickly to decent thick covering. Light carbonation... some light sticky lacing...

Aroma - Lots of roasted chocolate malts, light tobacco smoke, brown sugar notes, grassy hops, roasted (maybe slightly charred ?) nuttiness, nutmeg spiciness, some anise, black coffee, woody hints, creosote traces, dark dried fruits (raisins and currents)...

Taste - Grassy and earthy hop bitterness up front followed by sweet brown sugar, roasted malts, some pine notes, spicy dark fruits (raisins, dates, plums), dark chocolate, light smokiness, roasted nuttiness, treacle sweetness...

M&D - Sharp initially then smooths out nicely... medium bodied... Very quaffable...

Overall - An excellent brown ale... highly recommended...

The tan head disappears very quickly after the pour with minimal lacing. Color is a deep reddish-brown. The flavor is dominated by chocolate and caramel malts. The carbonation was too high for my liking, especially for this style of beer. I wanted to smoothly savor the roastyness of this beer, but the carbonation level interfered with this. Not a bad brew, but not a great one either.

Drank on-tap at The Democratic Republic Of Beer (DRB), Miami, FL

The beer poured dark chestnut brown and was topped by a thin film of light tan froth. There was no lacing whatsoever. The liquid contained many bubbles and reminded me somewhat of root beer.

The aroma was pleasant and interesting but quite muted initially. Toffee and caramel were noticeable. Touch of chocolate and hazelnut. The malt profile was very British. Coffee notes came out as beer warmed. With time, the nose turned sweeter and more robust.

The flavor was similar to the aroma except drier and less complex. A mix of toasted and roasted malts appeared on the front end before a dry nuttiness took over. The finish contained notes of coffee, as well as some earthy, bittering hops. There was also a dry, oaty quality to it.

The mouthfeel was thinner than anticipated with a crisp, spritzy effervescence. It felt somewhat soda-like.

I was excited to try a Cigar City beer while vacationing in South Florida, but this offering was a bit disappointing.

Huge gasp of carbonation, and pours a glass full of bubbling toffee foam. Dissipates slowly into a clear amber body with garnet highlights.

Toasted malt, chocolate, toffee, and a hint of coffee comprise the aroma. It's a bit nutty, with vanilla undertones.

Flavor is fairly roasty, with chocolate and a significant of a tangy note at the finish. The almost metallic taste is hard to surpass. Some nuttiness eventually emerges.

Body is moderate, with abundant effervescent carbonation.

Overall, there's a good beer in there, but think this one was either mildly infected or they have some yeast/carbonation issues. Wish I had another to compare.

An hour later, the carbonation settled. The tang and effervescent disappeared. Score reflects that flavor and aroma, and body appearance, not head.

Jan 2012 bottle, opened Aug 2012.

A - Waaaayyyy over carbonated. Foam explodes out of the glass as you pour it. Khaki colored head, par retention and low lace. Bright mud mahogany brown.

S - Funky twang on the nose; dry cardboard, a faint note of vinegar, brown sugar, and black tea.

T - The over-carbonation reeks havoc on the flavor profile. Even after swirling the brew around a bit to try to knock out some of the gas, seltzer was still a dominant flavor. Behind the bubbles there's macadamia nuts, a nutmeg and caramel center, and a burnt coffee finish.

M - High carbonation, dry, and a relatively light body.

O - An unfortunate bottling error with the carbonation leaves this brew with a relatively muted/dull flavor profile.

Received as an extra in a trade, poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a nice rich, dark deep hazelnut brown nearly black with a good heavy 3 finger light mocha head that leaves behind thick, sticky side lacing and a dense blanket. Quite nice.

S - Nice oatmeal notes here along with good chocolate and roasted malts. Light caramel sweetness, almost cookie like. Quite nice.

T - Nice bitter roast with smooth oatmeal and chocolate, almost like a stout or a porter. Very interesting and tasty for an english brown. Lots of nice almost burnt roast with like caramel sweetness.

M - Mouthfeel is awesome. Super silky and velvety, though slightly slightly thin.

O - Overall this was a surprisingly good beer. Really like the almost stout/porter qualities this beer has. Very tasty.

Picked up a single 12 oz bottle of this yesterday at a Publix in Sarasota, FL, as I am currently on vacaton there with my wife and family. So glad I am finally getting to try soemthing from this brewery! I can't get their stuff up in Cleveland, OH where I live, but I have heard nothing but very good things about this brewery and their beer. Poured into a pint glass, this beer pours a clear, medium brown color with a copper/amber glow/hue when held up to the light, along with lots of little bubbles hurrying up to the surface of the beer. The slightly tan/off white head is about an inch thick when first poured, eventually settling to a very nice thick ring lining the inside of the glass, along with bits of spotty surface foam here and there on the surface of the beer. The lacing leaves soemthing to be desired though. Aromas of roasted nut, oatmeal caramel malt, and a hint of coffee and chocolate. Has a great roasted nut and coffee flavor upfront followed by some caramel, cocoa, and oatmeal. Wonderful! No discernible hop presence here for my palate, but there is one other flavor that immediately hit the back of my tongue after the first step and lingered for a very long time after I had finished my last sip. I only described it as a burnt cigar taste. That burnt cigar taste of flavorful tobacco one gets on the back of their tongue after having been puffing on a cigar of their choice for awhile. One of the things I know this brewery is known for is using the wood from humidors to age their beers in, No other brewery that I know of is doing such a thing. That flavor is very distinct as any fellow cigar smokers here will also know, and I've never experienced that kind flavor in my life ever when drinking a beer until now. And no, I had not been smoking a cigar with this beer or been around anyone smoking a cigar when drinking this beer, or even done either of those 2 things anytime in the past 16 days mind you before drinking this beer. It didn't say on the label of my bottle that this beer specfically was aged in humidor wood or antyhing else of the sort, but I tell you that a very distinct cigar flavor is present in this beer I enjoyed. Has a crisp and smooth, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Excellent drinkability. A most impressive beer here!

Appearance: Amber brown to brown. Mild carbonation and a slight head that quickly dissipates. No noticeable lacing.

Smell: Strong smell of espresso up front and toasted malts throughout.

Taste: Thin and perhaps overly sweet, with hints of coffee. No chocolate to speak off.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, but a lingering bit of carbonation at the end.

Drinkability: High. With only 5.5 ABV I can see putting back quite a few of these at a sitting.

A-Pours hazelnut brown with a robust tan head that retains masterfully. This is a really pretty brew. The head leaves thick collars of lacing.

S-Oatmeal chocolate-chip cookie dough. Sugar cookies too. Lightly nutty. Light coffee and milk chocolate. Not incredibly intense but unique and very pleasing.

T-Great cookie flavors. Oatmeal choco-chip cookie dough is my best description. Light nuts and cocoa powder. Light roast coffee. Molasses and brown sugar with a long toasty finish.

M-Feels bigger than a sub 6% ABV brew. Quite creamy. Massaging carbonation. A bit chewy.

O/D-I enjoyed this one. If I could get this regularly I could see myself drinking this a lot. I could see this going perfectly in several different scenarios. Would pair well with a ton of food too.

A: Pours a beautiful carmel, deep reddish brown with a thin, tan head.
S: Rather muted. Slight hints of roasty malts and toffee with some carmel notes.
T: what it lacked in aroma, it makes up for in taste, ten fold. Intense roasted malts with sweet chocolate and carmel. I get some black coffee overtones. The blend from roasted malts to sweetness to a blend of the two at the back is perfection personified.
M: medium carbonation, but very smooth and slightly creamy. A nice blend of roasted malts and sweet carmel and toffee hang around for a while.
O: thoroughly enjoyed this. Needs to be available in Ohio. This is very complex and easily one of the best browns i have had. By the way, do as the label says try this with a cigar....bliss.

Thanks to AbeFroman for sharing this one at NoSignsOfPain's birthday bottleshare hosted by mrbubbler.

Pours a clear brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and some nutty aromas. Taste is much the same with a medium amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a pretty good level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is easy to drink but nothing too exciting going on in my opinion.

[Best served in a Dimpled Mug]

The pour was a hazy dark brown with a large (2-3 finger) light brown creamy head that lasted a very long time, finally reducing to a thin cap and a medium collar which in turn did produce some good sticky lacing.

The aroma was of a toasted cereal malt and a leathery yeast with notes of milk chocolate, roasted coffee, caramel, molasses and a bit of oats.

The taste was extremely malty and a tad sweet with hints of caramel and molasses early on, and then became rather creamy and a little bitter with notes of chocolate and coffee towards the end. The flavor hung on for a good long duration letting an espresso mocha taste settle in wonderfully on the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was medium in body with a light creamy robust texture and a mild to medium carbonation.

Overall a brew that is an exquisite representation of this style, with the oats giving it a nice smooth, creamy feel and a great drinkability. Most definitely one of the best Brown Ale's I have tasted to date...

S-Nice nutty brown ale smell, toasted roasted malts...good smell.

T-Actually very thin ale with a dry finish....not my favorite from cigar city ive had plenty of other cigar city beers that are amazing but to me this one is just good but not great. Like other reviewers noted i get that burnt popcorn flavor halfway through my glass. The website says oatmeal brown but the bottle i have says nothing about oatmeal.

M-Light carbonation with a nice dry finish

O-Overall this is a good malty brown ale if you like bown ales(brown ales are not my favorite but for what it is it is a good beer) It is worth giving it a try if you never had it. Ive have yet to have a bad beer from cigar city.

A - It is ruby brown with an inch of mocha head.

M - Medium to full.

Pours a dark brown color. Very dark brown. A medium tan head that dissipates and leaves a small foam at the top. Good lacing. Smells... wow. Toffee, espresso, roasted nuts. One of the best aromas I've smelled on a beer in my life.
Tastes of nuts, caramel, a bit of coffee and a very slight taste of chocolate. A slight sweetness makes this very drinkable. Medium body, medium carbonation.

Cigar city's classic brown ale. Here in Miami where I live, this is a regular in any good craft beer store. It is also a regular in my refrigerator. It is sessionable and delicious.

This is a very dark brown beer that pours a large tan head of compact bubble. The head settles to about half a finger of foam with a long retention and it leaves some lacing on the glass.

A dark fruity aroma of figs is very strong at first that quickly goes away and progresses to the primary aromas of toffee and coffee notes with mild bit of chocolate as well. There is a bit of phenolic aroma that lingers in the background that is a pleasant mix of pepper and tabacco notes.

There is a moderate hop bitterness with a mild malt sweetness that combine in a balanced finish. Flavors of coffee, roasted grains and toffee are prominent. There is a a mild tabacco flavor and very mild pepper note in there along with a slight fruitiness.

It has a medium body with moderately light carbonation and little slickness on the the palate.

This is a unusual beer with lots of flavor and complexity. I can't think of a better beer to enjoy nice cigar because the flavors would compliment each other so well.

My first CC beer, I was excited. Typical dark brown color. Nothing out of the ordinary in the nose. The taste, however, brought a spice reminiscent of a ?spruce tree? Very interesting. More carbonation than I thought. Mouthfeel was average.

For my first CC beer I was not disappointed, but not overly impressed. I look forward to my next one.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: very nice dark chocolate color with a thin cream colored head. The head quickly disappeared with little lacing left behind.

S: smells wonderful. Roast malts with a little sweetness - chocolate - up front. Smells full bodied with a hint of nuts and cedar.

T: very nice for the style with a great roasted maltiness. Sweet, but not overly so, with some nutty finish. Very pleasant.

M: a nice quenching feel with some great consistency. Very drinkable.

O: a very nice session brew. Served it at my wedding with our Cuban themed meal. Fit perfectly. Enjoyed at the end of the night with a nice cigar. Highly recommended. Cheers!

Sampled a few bottles while in Miami/FL Keys.

A- Dark brown pour with a light nut brown colored head. Cap retention is decent and the size is around one finger. A few webs of lace here and there.

S- Toast nutty brown malts and some roast hints up front. Also notes of brown sugar, coffee and dark fruit.

T- Strong nutty malts and raisin flavors start things off. Balanced backbone of roast malt, coffee beans, brown sugar and a great cereal grain note that goes very well in this type of brown ale. Tiny bit of earthy and spicy hops.

MF- Sightly creamy bodied ale with silky moderate carbonation. Nutty roast bitter feel to finish it all off.

A good brown ale with just enough roast and grainy malt balance. Would definitely recommend this and have it again when visiting CCB's distribution area.

12oz. bottle poured into a tumbler glass.

A- a dark brown with ruby highlights. A creamy one finger of khaki head sits on top

S- typical brown ale smells. Caramel malt, brown sugar, a hing of tobacco, but I also pick up on the oatmeal on the nose.

T- has a twang that really resembles a dominican connecticut broadleaf cigar. It almost comes off as sour, but not quite. (I believe this is the oatmeal influence on the taste) There's also the typical caramel, brown sugar flavors as well. Mid-sip the flavor die off. I have to ding it a little for that.

M- The oatmeal certainly lends to a creamier than normal brown ale, and really helps the finish not to dry too much. Light carbonation.

Certainly doesn't rank above my favs (Smutty Old Brown Dog, Sixpoint Brownstone) but it's a better than normal brown ale with a interesting twist (the oatmeal)

Consumed March 29th, 2012.

Beer pours a dark, clear caramel brown. A VERY creamy two-finger head forms and subsides fairly rapidly, leaving a luxurious foamy crown of sticky foam. Beautiful beer.

Aroma has hints of tobacco (power of suggestion?), leather, roasted nuts.

Flavor is smooth and subtle. Roasted nuts, hints of tobacco and leather, then a big full wash of toffee/toast/biscuit type malt. Low bitterness on the finish. This is smoothest, best drinking brown ale I think I've ever had.

Mouthfeel is smooth and velvety and creamy (yay, oatmeal!). Just amazing.

Best. Brown. Ale. Ever.
