Pours a gorgeous, crystal clear, deep golden color with a cotton foam, eggshell colored head. Clumpy asymetrical foam laces the glass as the head subsides. The head is perpetually fed by carbonation bubbles migrating from the bottom of the glass. This is avery nice looking brew. Vibrant, citrusy and piney nose, without any abrasiveness at all. Very pleasant bouquet. Mouthfeel is extremely wet and slick with some carbonation scrubbiness and a little hop hotness on the back of the tongue. Nothing utterly remarkable about the flavor, but it is tasty. Pine is ushered along by some sweeter citrus as well as an underlying grapefruit bitterness. Painfully drinkable.

12oz Bottle, no freshness date. Light coppery orange with an off white head that quickly settles down to a fine lace. Slightly hazy. Not much of an aroma. Surprisingly more malty than hoppy at first. Up front there is light hop and some syrupy malt notes. Good solid bitterness at the end that doesn't linger. Mouthfeel has a slight viscosity that seems to go along with the syrupy malty note in the flavor. Overall a solid, easy drinking IPA. Could definitely use a little more hop aroma to really feel like an IPA as you drink it.

Nectar Ales - Nectar IPA (Not sure why it's listed as "IPA Nectar")

Look - Poured into my new Dogfish Head IPA glass (yay). Pours a clear darker reddish amber with a terrific soapy head. Nice sticky lacing.

Smell - Aroma is malty sweet and citrus hops. Mouth-watering.

Taste - Carbonation hits first but not too hard. Smooth malts ride in on the bubbles, quite sweet. Hops come in piney and citrus after.

Mouthfeel - Floral hops rest on the palate, as well as sweet sticky malts. Very drinkable. Honey seems to stick a bit here, which is OK but not a great aspect.

Overall - Unique blend of malts and pungent hops creates a great IPA experience. Would recommend, worth a try. This brew is a bit underrated, but if you really want the wow factor for this kind of style, give Troegs Nugget Nectar a try. I prefer to call this style an amber DIPA.

Come on - this is a nice IPA. Not sure why there is such mild praise.

If you like floral hops, a nice finish, you will really enjoy this. I've had it on tap a couple of times in Orlando and I think this is an ideal IPA.

Not pretentious, not complicated, but a great IPA!

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 12 oz. bottle into an Upland pint glass.

A: Clear, burnished deep copper in color, with a half-finger of white foamy head that fades quickly. This is so clear that the medium visible carbonation is the only thing reminding me I'm not looking through a tinted window.

S: Pine hops up front, some caramel bready malt, then some citrus and grassy hops.

T: Pine, grass and citrus hops, moderately caramelly malts, and a bit of spice and earthy hops. Significant hop bitterness at the end but not overdone.

M: Medium body for style, alcohol noticeable but doesn't detract, and a great amount of carbonation sensation.

O: A tasty IPA, and well-executed...but far from the best in the class. Still, I'm glad to have it available on shelves around here.

The brown bottle shades the fact that Nectar looks, pours and smells more like an Amber IPA, which is not necessarily a bad thing depending on what you are looking for in an (West Coast) IPA. As such (despite the "American IPA" moniker), I am reviewing Nectar in the Amber IPA style.

There is a close resemblance in style to Troegs Nugget Nectar in terms of sweetness (although @ 93 IBUs,Nugget Nectar is much more tangy compared to the relatively pedestrian 60 IBUs in Nectar), and more pointedly, the Amber style ,which may come as a surprise to those expecting something similar to other Southern California offerings by AleSmith or Stone.

Clear as a bell amber with a small white head, minimal lacing, mostly sweet malts in the nose with a faint touch of hops ,and a slight floral/honey character to it.

As for taste, it follows suit and is a caramel covered soft pretzel: little in the way of a" hop zing," a touch of honey in the swallow that has floral hints, with just a slight spiciness behind it all. I find the flavor and aftertaste pleasant, and this clear amber IPA goes down exceptionally smooth with little to no trace of alcohol.

Those that enjoy Troegs Nugget Nectar would likely give Nectar IPA high marks in the Amber IPA style, but those hop hounds seeking a cloudy tart citrus infusion are unlikely to slake their thirst with Nectar.
