Well, it's /supposed/ to be retired, but the growler is full of what Bierkraft in brooklyn is calling "Nectar Pale Ale," so, um, here goes?

A--Light, light gold, nearly straw yellow but still has some orange tint. Like a weak honey. Perfect match with September sun. Head was frothy white and two-fingered, with good retention and sweeping lace. Nice!

S--Also inviting: mostly tropical fruit, specifically pineapple and mango. Also maybe a more deep sweetness, like passion fruit or guava.

T--You get all those tropical fruits as well as lip smacking pine on the back end, and even some peach in the middle. Malt is subtle but there, right in the center with a touch of biscuits. Then it's woody and resinous on the finish. Damn that's good.

M&D--Creamy and smooth, just the way I like it. This is, somehow, an unobtrusive pale ale that is nothing like what I expect or usually enjoy from the style. If it were brewed on the East Coast it'd be considered an IPA I think, but it /is/ lighted bodied, and it /seems/ to be lower in alcohol. A real masterpiece in the art of hopping well, I think. One of hte few hoppier beers I don't get sick of after two or three.

Superior brew. Highly recommended.

Reviewed on 6/14/2010. Growler from Big Z Beverage. Pours a clear light orange with a small white head. Aroma of hop oils, grassy hops, floral hops, citrus hops, a touch of tropical fruits, and bready malts. Flavor of citrus hops, hop oils, grassy hops. Palate is slightly weaker than I'd prefer for such a hoppy beer. Overall, very drinkable and tasty, great hop character.

A: Poured a light golden color with good carbonation and a nice white head

S: Fuits and flowers

T: Lighter fruits, mainly tropical amf some sticking pine and floral notes

M: Well carbonated, crisp, smooth so easy to drink much like the Nectar IPA is. Just clean, simple and tasty

D: Very good West Coast Pale Ale

The folks at Bierkraft were kind enough to set aside a growler for me -- missed it last time. Picked it up this morning, and have been working my way through it tonight. According to beermenus.com, this is 4.9% ABV, which seems about right. EDIT: They tell me at Bierkraft that this is not retired at all, but that it's draft only. ANOTHER EDIT, 12/6/09: And since Bierkraft has it on for growlers again this weekend (and I just enjoyed another growler of it with friends,) I think we can remove the "retired" label now, mm-kay?

Pours a clear, bright amber with an impressive white head that deflates to an egg-white crest, leaving lots of lacing down the glass. The smell is cedar, grass, plums, some green tea. The taste is a big grassy hit up front, with lots of nectarine or black plum sweetness, then a sharp dandelion tang than passes into a citron bitterness. It's light in body, well carbonated without being fizzy. The bitterness hangs around a little long to drink it quickly, but it's definitely easy to drink. This would've been nice on the one or two hot days we had this summer.

This poured a clear gold with white head. It smelled like light caramel malt and a blend of citrus and copper hops. It tasted like honey and caramel malt, lemon hops and honeysuckle, and a bit of coconut. It was a bit oily with slight carbonation, and had a bittersweet aftertaste. Overall this was another very sweet but tasty beer from Nectar, which was very easy to drink and had a very nice, clean flavor. It was somewhat unique to me, but it could have used a bit more body. All in all, this was a very good pale ale.

This is by far my favorite "everyday" beer! I could never get tired of it. Intense fresh hop bouquet and flavor to match, with just enough maltiness to round it out. Lovely sweet and floral finish with the perfect amount of CO2 bite. I can't believe this beer is rated so low! I really hope that more people give it a try because this beer deserves your attention.

I poured this new beer into my tumbler at 40 degrees. yes I know thats cold but it was 100 degrees that day! The beer was a nice golden color and it had a big pretty fluffy white head. The lacing was also good. Now for the stuff that matters. The taste was fresh and it was a good beer if you like a hoppy brew. Very refreshing on a hot summer day very crisp.
