L- A pretty standard issue lager shade of gold, clear, pours with 3-4mm white head.
S- Mild, just some light grain.
T- A somewhat richer than expected (i.e. typical for this look of beer) lager. I have to remind myself that this is a Helles as they seem to have this added richness.
F- The richness, and it's a sense of a bit more body, it's not abour anything sweet, likely makes this more versatile across the year, vs a lighter lager for hotter months. Carbonation in the mouth is good.
O- It's nice enough. There is nothing overtly wrong or out of balance to note. But I don't think it has much individual character. There isn't a facet here I'd recognise it by in future if I blind-tasted it. So, it's a decent beer but pretty forgettable, and there are plenty of similar origin+style beers that do far more for me than this one.
Bought from Real Ale Ltd; Formasa St., London W9. £3.80/500 bottle. BB: 12/11/20.

Decent enough, not a patch on the Special or Helles.

Served cool from 500ml bottle into willi becher glass.
L) Light golden colour, clear, only a few bubbles rising. Thin white bubbly head.
S) Pretty weak lager malt odour.
T) Weakish Munich helles malty taste, a bit more hop bitterness than may be expected for a helles, but overall quite a weak taste, especially when compared to the standard Tegernseer helles.
F) Very nice weight in the mouth, just like a quality helles should be. Its refreshing but lets you know it is there, is a quality beer.
O) Don't see how this is any better than the awesome Tegernsee Hell, so go for that instead if you have the choice.

I like the labeldesign of this Special Edition, great artwork and definately traditional. I am pouring this into a Deutschherrenseidel... Looks good in the glass. Good clarity. Light golden colour. Moderate foam; very pleasant on the nose: typical malt flavour, some grass, little bit mossy-but sweet..some honey. Now let's drink. Yes, good mouthfeel, malty, sweet and well balanced, typical german Helles. I miss more of that malty-honey sweetness. The Body is a little bit weak...should be mor like Märzen Style in my opinion. But this is no Märzen, so it's alright. Overall this beer is typical for the style!

Had from bottle in a real ale pub in Birmingham UK. Pale gold, dense head that didn't last but looked inviting. Typical German Hell's fresh grassy floral aroma with hint of dryness. Taste was also typical of a good German hell, but had a surprising sweetish aftertaste blended in with the crispness and lightly hoppy finish. Was not too 'gassy' as some can be from a bottle. Light texture made it easy to drink, and I enjoyed this a lot. I does have more character than the normal Tegernsee Hell, and you can detect it's from the same source - just a worthwhile improvement and I would enjoy having this again, and would be good as a session beer on a warm summer's day!

Found this at a small drink-shop on the Starnberg See in southern Munich. Brewed as a special 200th anniversary beer for the King Max Joseph from a little R&D. The normal Helles falls a slight notch below Augustiner Helles, lets see how the 1806 hold up. Best before 19/10/10.
Opens with a nice lively hiss, decanting gives a very light golden Helles, lacking the slight murkiness of other examples. Light golden straw, active carbonation. Head is really nice for a Helles. Medium thick, active, hold two fingers for quite a bit of time. Off to a "hell" of a start:)
Aromas are typical Helles. Light tart citrus, musty grain, fresh light hoppiness, light biscuit, touch of honey. This example is particularly bright in the aromatics, a nice peppery tartness adds lightness and spark whereas others sometime lean to heavy in the biscuit/sweetness spectrum. Solid so far, if the flavor matches, then we may have a new addition to my best Helles discoveries.
Surprise on the flavor. I must first say that 1806 is way better than the normal Tegernsee Helles. A slightly sweet open gives a honey/malt/ biscuit flavor, accented by a light citrus. The flavor is surprising floral, and my mouth is left with a slightly tingling spiciness akin to pepper or fresh greens, such as arugula. This brew really is a great spring drink, as it is wild herb time in Germany, and the floral freshness really reminds me of the wild herbs we currently use in the kitchen.
After subsequent sips, the brew becomes a little sweeter, but as my palate becomes accustomed to the flavor, the sweetness is actually appreciated. Carbonation remains in perfect balance, as well as the light bitterness on the finish.
It seems the brewery took their basic Helles, and fixed every problem in the original. Fuller body, more spice, balanced carbonation.
Drinkabilty is high, but taking it slow as this brew is a bit harder to find in Munich than the others, but I'm sure a quick trip to Tegernsee would resolve the problem. After having mainly Augustiner Helles on a typical basis, I must say this one really gives it a run for the money. Really good, solid beer, worth seeking out. Cheeres
