Drunk fresh at the source in Bamberg in September 2023.

L: Bright golden yellow with a bright, white head and almost no carbonation.

S: sweet malt, soapy hops. That hop note detracts significantly, and I'm not sure what would have caused it. Dirty lines? I can't believe that would occur in a Bamberg brewery.

T: Sweet, brioche malt and mild citrus bitterness. Quite nice and better than the nose suggested, but I also expect more bitterness in a pils.

M: Smooth with minimal carbonation (as per the appearance).

O: This was enjoyable once I blocked out the mildly soapy hop aroma.

Cheers!

On tap at a craft beer bar in Berlin. Should have had this first before the Monchsambacher Lager bc this tastes a bit metallic after that fantastic beer. Still a great Pils, with the flavor and feel you come to expect from this style in Germany. Full, rich, yet not heavy. Malt bill is on point and there’s a hint of sweetness and hops in the finish. A very good Pils! Now I wish I visited the brewery when I was in Bamberg about a month ago.

Pours a clear yellow with soft, airy head.

Smell is crisp and clean, crackery and floral. Notes of hops, wheat dough and a slight metallic hint.

Taste is crisp, clean and quite light. Bready and crackery with a solid bitterness and hoppiness. Floral with notes of citrus and rye and slight metallic and herbal hints.

Mouthfeel is medium, a bit creamy and well carbonated.

Overall, a very nice, easy to drink pilsner.

Appearance is like a clear straw lightness, quite transparent, medium carbonation, thick white head. Aroma slightly strong for the style, like a citrusy, grassy floral hop smell with biscuits. Taste is assertively hoppy and citrusy. This has a light body and is very refreshing, lingering carbonation and bitterness on the mouth. Very easy drinker. A great German pilsner.

Bottle purchased in Bamberg. Pour straw yellow in color with one inch head, clear. Taste is straw, grass, and pilsner malt. Light bodied, sweet, with moderate carbonation. Makes for a super clean and very enjoyable version of the style.

Pours a clear, light golden coloration with a medium, fizzy head. Smells of light biscuity malt, straw and grass, with a hint of grains. Taste is rather mild, but well-balanced, with very light biscuity malt and equally light hoppy notes of citrus, grass herbs and grain. Finishes with a mild bitterness, medium body with medium/high carbonation.

This is a rather mild and easy-drinking Pilsner with relatively strong hoppy notes balanced against light biscuity malt. Makes for a nice summer beer, but ultimately a little bland.

Pours a clear, bright golden color with a smaller, spongy head.

Has well pronounced aromas of straw, crackers a subtle herbal hop note and bready caramel.

Has a nice mouthfeel, which is defined by a refreshing, higher carbonation, which at no point turns out too be too vivid or metallic. Instead the beer finishes with a great smoothness and a prevailing effervescence.

Tastes hoppy from the first sip, introducing fresh cut herbs, white bread dough and wet straw to the palate. Turns only slighter sweeter then, with some caramel malts cutting through the hops, which turn drier and more present at the same time. Finishes utmost dry, together with a spicy, peppery note, adding unforeseen depth to the subtle, bready, well working malts.

Very nice, classic pils with a great mouthfeel and a pungent, well balanced hop dryness.

Suitcase beer from Germany – price unknown because I received no itemized receipt. Purchased at Bierotek (sp?) in Bamberg.
Bottle dated 11.08.17. Stored at 42 degrees. Served at 42 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Aroma – grainy.
Head – large (Maximum 5.5 cm, aggressive pour), white, low density froth, average retention, diminishing to an irregular two to four mm ring and a heaped partial layer.
Lacing – very good. Complete medium width rings showing stalagmites and stalactites as well as an occasional connecting column. Predominantly tiny bubbles.
Body – straw yellow, clear – no chill haze.
Flavor – Begins with some medium hop bitterness and flavor, with a hint of dimethylsulfide sneaking in. Malt flavor is not evident other than a little graininess. No alcohol, no diacetyl.
Palate – almost medium, watery, soft carbonation.

Overall, a very good German pilsner. I have had this vom Fass at the Keesmann biergarten and I have to say the fresh draft is much better, but isn’t that usually the case?

Appearance 5, Aroma 4, Flavor 4, Palate 4.5, Overall 4.25.

A: We all know what Pilsner looks like.
S: Strong grain.
T: Slightly hoppier than your average Pilsner. Has a nice savoury bite with a lovely citrusy finish. No spice or dankness. Quite a crisp mouthfeel.
O: It's simply a really good ordinary Pilsner. Very refreshing.

Fresh, crispy, and enjoyable. A bit light for my taste, but quite good and always a fun beer for the afternoon or with lunch.
