Hazed reddish amber hue, light on the lacing. Musty buttery caramel aroma. Sweet brew with very little hopping, lots of buttery diacetyl. Lackluster malt character, a tad watery with a long lingering buttery musty flavor. Not impressed with this brew at all.

Picked up a growler at the brewpub after seeing all the recent awards it has won in the past few years. Wondering if the recipe has been tweaked since previous reviews. Poured out into a tumbler pint, the beer is a bright, slightly hazed, ruby-highlighted copper coloring with a tall, frothy, foamy, off-white head with great retention and a sparse, lacing cling along the glass. Aromas of tangy caramel with a solid hopping to balance. Smells rich and clean at the same time. Flavors are a balanced blast on the forward tongue, with both a wet hopping and a tangy, sugary sweet caramel profile. Peppery spicings highlight the palate, also. The beer is mid-bodied, with a round, smooth feel in mouth. Clean, slick finish that is drying a bit with the hops presence. Very solid, tasty brew.

It pours more amber than red and cloudy at that. The aroma was weak overall with the most noticeable scent being that of hops. The body was moderate but nothing extraordinary. The flavor had more of a hoppy sensation to it along with a bit of tanginess. Flying Goose says this is one of their more popular customer choices although I am not certain why that would be. Some of their darker brews are better than this one.
