Notes:
Our first anniversary release is a Belgian-style strong ale that is amber in color, with a light to medium body. Subtle malt sweetness is balanced with noticeable hop flavor, light raisin and mildly spicy, cake-like flavors, and is finished with local wildflower honey aromas. Made with 80% Organic Malted Barley, Belgian Specialty grains, Forbidden Fruit yeast, domestic hops and Round Rock local wildflower honey, this beer is deceptively high in alcohol.

Had at 512 open house on 6/19/2010 (premier of this year's release)
2010 2nd anniversary ale, belgian stong amber ale.
Tastes like a belgian strong saison, with a little bit of biscuity malt. Local wildflower honey added to boost alcohol. Good but not outstanding.

Light yellow, nice foam retention. Yeasty esters on the nose. Nice carbonation. It’s light, sweet, and as befitting the style there’s no hop profile to speak of. I don’t notice the alcohol, although it weighs in at a hefty 9%? Honestly I was expecting more of a punch but still a solid brew.

Thanks for sharing this one, Bobby.
A: The beer pours an amber color with a finger of white head.
S: The aroma starts off with lots of spice, especially coriander. There is some fruit in the form of banana and pears, perhaps a hint of apple. Light phenols of pepper along with bready malts and toffee sweetness.
T: Flavor of sweet malt, particularly toffee and bread. There is a lot of banana flavor, too, which gives a bit of a banana bread character. A noticeable peppery spice, and some other fruits, mostly pears.
M: The body is medium and the carbonation is also medium.
O: I've been interested in trying this one and thought it was actually pretty decent.

Tried on tap at WhipIn, 7 Aug 2010. This was the One.2 version with a different type/source of honey. Served in a ~8 oz. glass.
Clear warm coppery brown in color. Lightly carbonated. Aroma is sweet and lightly spicy with a woody component, maybe mesquite. Fairly sweet to start, vanilla and ethanol. A touch syrupy. Warming from the middle into the finish and aftertaste. Becomes a bit grapey/raisiny in the finish. Medium body. Warming lingering ethanol.
Had this at the (512) first anniversary party and would be hard pressed to tell the differences between the two.

Poured into a pint glass at Red’s Porch
Appearance: Amber orange with a white head that quickly fades into a thin lacing.
Aroma: Fruity esters dominate, banana, citrus, peach, and alcohol.
Taste: honestly a little boozy, I wasn’t expecting it to be like that. The fruit flavors from the yeast are a little hidden behind the alcohol taste, which is somewhat disappointing. Make no mistake; you can still taste the obvious Belgian yeast flavor.
Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation and kind of syrupy, which surprised. I think the combination of alcohol flavors and a syrupy feel made it at little difficult to drink.
Overall: Glad I got to try it, but I think (512) still needs a little work practicing Belgian style beers.

A: Pours a clear and dark amber red/brown color. A two finger beige head forms with good retention. Some patchy lace is left behind.
S: Really sweet malt up front. Sweet toffee and candy like aromas. Lightly toasted with some dark fruity aromas. Light yeast as well. Strong alcohol lingers.
T: Follows the nose. Really sweet up front. Actually to much cloying sweetness. Toffee and candy like sweetness. Some fruity flavors of cherry as well. Light yeast with some alcohol in the finish.
M/D: A medium body with some prickly carbonation. A little rough around the edges. There is plenty of alcohol that makes this a slow sipper. One is enough.
This is a one and done for me. Not bad at all, just to sweet and to much alcohol. Worth a try, but 512 has much better beers.

loved this beer and will be back for more on tap in the houston market and beyond. it outpaces other domestic belgium crafter brews by a mile. great lacing and consistency but could not get a feel for the smell. 1.2 is the next step in this beers evolution, i will be there to experience it.

On tap at the Whip In in Austin.
Pours an amber color with a white head. The aroma was caramel with some dark fruit and some spices. You also get some Belgian yeast characteristics. The flavor is more of the same with dark fruits like raisins being prevalent. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation. A nice one-off from 512. I look forward to others in the future.

On-tap at FTW fall beerfest. Crimson amber colored with an eggshell colored creamy, frothy head. Definitely belgian yeast and candi sugar up front with ripe plums and red apples to follow. Very light, tasty and airy while remaining amply medium in the feel. This would serve great as a year round 4 pack. Good example of the style.

Had this on-tap at Flying Saucer. Sweet and fruity smelling. Maybe a little "spicy." Tasted similar, a bit light maybe, but definately reminiscent of a bunch of Belgian beers. Sweet and fruity with a bit of alcohol in the finish. Was probably a bit much to pair with the bratwurst sandwich I was eating. I would definately get this again if I lived in Austin and it was available, but alas.

On tap at the flying saucer on pint night (notes are from about a month ago).
A: Amber colored with not much head on it, may have been sitting a few minutes before it got to me though. Looks like some lively carbonation to it.
S: Spice, citrus, and some bread.
T: Kind of a spicy wheat flavor to it, more citrus as it warmed.
M: Good body to it, on the lighter side maybe but it keeps the drinkability up.
D: Pretty solid, I found it enjoyable.
