Take note, if you are seeking a craft beer bar in Springfield, OH, Station One is probably a 5 rating. From what little I saw, there is no comparison. That said, by comparison, to other places I' have visited in my various travels, this place is solidly average. In sum, as I wrote, you CANNOT go wrong for the area. But, comparatively, as my ratings show, you could do better. Why? The selection is good but not great. The IPA's were average. They did have Founders Breakfas Stout on tap, though (for how long?). The service is "acceptable". The atmosphere borders on loud and smoky - the open air was nice, except the many cigarette smokers were outside allowing the smoke to blow right in on you.

This is the one of the two games in town with craft beers on tap that I've found to date along with Conner's Irish Pub. Just moved here from Columbus and I am seriously missing Bob's Bar and St. James Tavern. They have a good tap selection here but not a lot of imagination or thought. Strong in Great Lakes offerings and a few other good ones like Langunitus and some others.

The bartender warms up after you sit there but she sure isn't outgoing. One of those who just looks at you waiting for you to say something. Not good for newbies if you're looking for an extrovert barkeep. On the other hand, the patrons during the day are pretty friendly.

I heard they have a great deck in back with bands on the weekend but for a great pub with friendly, knowledgeable barstaff, they need some work.

I am writing this review from home as I savor a Double Arrogant Bastard I picked up from a fantastic place very close to here - The Wine Works.

UPDATE 7/27/2015 New owners took over about a year-year-and-a-half and have greatly improved the beer offerings and have taken care of some of the line issues. Service is still based upon if they know you. New owners are great!

I live in Columbus and will drive one hour east to Springfield just to be at Station One. That's how good it is!

You would never guess from the outside (a typical small-town bar) and the inside (blue-collar guys and old regulars drinking light beer) that this place has FORTY beers on tap, many of them craft offerings. And at $4 dollars a pint, you can't go wrong!

I've had Avery IPA, Lagunitas Dogtown Pale Ale, Southern Trie Creme Brulee... they have almost the full line of Great Lakes on tap at all times, and two or three Bell's.

Service is spotty, a little gruff, but who cares? You're here for cheap craft beer! A great patio on the back overlooking the river is my favorite spot. I've spent many great summer evenings there.

Taps don't move too often- I swear I had the whole keg of Creme Brulee, it was there for over a month!

Food is bar food, fried and greasy. Average but good enough to go down with all the brews. Pizza is the better option.

It's all about the beers!!!

This is a great beer bar. They have a great selection of draught beer. They carry a lot of domestics because they're located next to Wittenberg. But they do have a lot of craft beers. If you like of Goose Island brands this is your place. They have Matilda, Pere Jacques, DEMOLITION, Honker's Ale, and 312! They also carry Bells Two Hearted Ale, a few Southern Tier brands and Avery.

The food is rated low, because it's bar food. It's good, but it's a bar! Pizza is really good, I would rate higher if there were a pizza rating.

The atmosphere is great. They have a really nice huge patio out back that is very secluded and is a perfect beer garden!

Located near Wittenberg University, this bar enjoys a healthy patronage from students & locals alike.
The interior is set-up to resemble a fire station; there is a well-lit bar upon walking in, with several tables in the main room and in an adjoining room. Dartboard, jukebox & patio outside as well.
They have a solid tap selection for the area. Out of 32 total taps, eight are dedicated to the Great Lakes brewery and two from Bell's, along with selections from Avery, Founders, Southern Tier, Sam Adams & Sierra Nevada. I tried the GL Edmund Fitzgerald and Founders' Dirty Bastard, for only $4/pint.
There was only one bartender on a Thursday night, but he was efficient and never left anyone waiting too long. Only thing I would nick him for was reusing my empty glass of porter to pour my scotch ale.
They have food from lunch until 8pm, so get there early if you want pizza & such. Great choice for beer in a limited town...come support the fact they're trying to dedicate half their taps to microbrews in a macro environment.
