Easily the best place to get a craft beer in Tucson. With 45 ever-changing beers on tap, and a fridge full of bottles, there is literally something for everybody. The beers are GREAT, the food is good - the wings have unique sauces and the pizza is massive and has no shortage of quality toppings. Service is appropriate for a craft beer bar - staff knows their stuff and take notice when you're running low.

Only complaints are that there's nowhere to park...plus with all this light rail construction it's even more of a pain (not their fault) and it gets particularly loud when it's busy...again, not their fault.

Not much of a lunch rush, so any time before 5pm the place will be mostly yours and you will feel like a kid on Christmas morning.

This place has one of the best beer lists in Tucson! I love the variety, there is always something new to try. The atmosphere is casual. Food is good, pizza and calzones only, with a couple of salads available. The different kinds of pizzas available are interesting. And they have hop bread, which is pretty amazing!

All in all, I highly recommend.

The first thing to comment on is pricing. Its not cheap but you get what you pay for. The pizza is the most expensive thing there, but it is freakin phenominal.

The servers are generally pretty nice and they know enough about the beers to help you if you have any questions (which is more than I can say for ANY other craft beer-related bar in Tucson). They have a great selection of 52 different taps (sometimes only 49 or so are on but still great) and I don't think I have ever been in there and seen the same beer on the menu twice (except Duchesse De Bourgogne which I have seen the last 2-3 times and I only go every few months). My favorite things about this place are:

-The number of choices
-The option for flights so you can try all those things you want to try without blacking out
-The hop bread (awesome!)
-And the small but usually good selection of bottles they sell to take home.

I recommend this place to everyone I know that is interested in craft beer because you are not likely to find it unless someone tells you about it (thats how I heard, from customers that came through the line in the grocery store I worked at)

EDIT: They are now open on Sundays too (at least during football season but probably after). They don't offer slices on Sunday but their whole pizzas are better and well worth it. Still the best place in Tucson.

Walking in it feels like a typical college restaurant bar. It has decor with tons of craft brewery t-shirts framed on the walls. There are different seating arrangements to suit your fancy. On the larger tables there are lazy susans built in which is neat. The big complaint I have is that there must be no noise insulation. No matter when I go it is always so loud.

The service is always prompt upon walking in. In no time there are waters and menus on your table. The waiters always seem to be willing to help out in choosing a beer to go along with your pizza. Helpful when there are about 50 rotating beers that change weekly. They also provide free samples if you are unsure about the beer, which is awesome!

The only huge miss at the restaurant is the food. Sad to say, the pizza here really is kind crappy, not inedible, but just a hair better than Dominos. This is true unacceptable considering the price. The only reason I really keep going back is for the beer.

Visited a few times on the recommendation by several BA's.

Typical college-y/divey atmosphere you'd find for a bar this close to a college campus...which isn't a totally bad thing IMO. Smell of pizza pervades the air, a few flat screens showing sports.

Service prompt and friendly, during both visits the attractive female 'tenders were great.

Great selection of 40+ beers, mixed between flagships and some esoteric selection. Good focus on local and CA beers. All were served at good temperature and clean. Good Cali IPA's like FW Double Jack, BP Sculpin, GreenFlash on tap...frankly I could've just drank those all night.

I'm a bit of a pizza snob, and although the "slice" here is quite big, the 'za is a bit bland...crust got a little soggy too. No biggie, as it hit the bill to sponge up the good beers I drank here.

Prices were reasonable, although there weren't any happy hours specials or discount nights.

I'm glad I visited and will return here again when I'm in Tucson.

Really cool place. Large tables to encourage socializing. Almost every brewing company represented on the walls in the form of framed t-shirts or 6/12-pack cases used as wallpaper. Around 50 draft beers to choose from, all served in the proper glassware at the proper price. Excellent representation from around the world and around the U.S. The pizza we ordered was good. We ordered pepperoni and jalapeno but there seemed to be a suspiciously low number of hot peppers present on our pie. Our server was nice and had a great knowledge of beer. Provided samples when requested. We ordered an 18" pizza but one slice is usually enough. Expensive for a slice but they are huge, so it's definitely enough to fill you up. Plus, with all the great beer on tap, you don't want to fill up on pizza. You want to fill up on brew!

52 Taps and they change every few days. Many are uncommon US, some are local, and usually there's even 4-5 Belgians. Some bottled as well but highlight is the drafts. Although Tucson beer selection is universally improving, this is the best selection by far. All beers are available in multiple sizes - a feature not well documented. When you see the price menu, it's usually for the largest size. When your brain hurts on which of the 52 you need to try before it runs out remember, you can get smaller sampler sizes and try more.

Atmosphere is nothing special or fancy -a clean, fairly small college bar decorated with beer T-shirts.

I find the food quite good. The pizza is thin crust and the toppings are fresh. Slices are huge - check the size out before you go overboard. Other snacks are good as well, and they've started making their own ice cream.

Bar sits adjacent to University of Arizona campus and thus is subject to occasional tidal waves of students depending on sporting events, graduations, campus events, etc. At the irregular times of being overwhelmed, best pass and go to one of the other larger college joints.

Among the comments, there have been some disparaging ones about the service. I find the staff friendly, fun, and very knowledgeable about beer. If folks have had problems, it's likely during one of the times when this small place is overrun. Usually, the staff is great - just chat them up about the qualities of various IPAs of the moment and see if you don't discover something new.

This is the best place in AZ for beer, they always have a good rotating selection of beers, 40 something taps.
The atmosphere is good, the place is decorated with brewery shirts.
Their only limitation seems to be those that do not distribute to AZ, they currently have an email campaign going to get Pliny in AZ. I was most surprised when they had a keg of Dissident.
Their pizza is good, a giant slice for ~$5.
I had read that they are working to get permits for on premise brewing and thus growler fills, this would put them among the best of the best.

Visited Thursday 3/3/2011 with the Ratebeer crowd in the early afternoon.

The place is a decent size with what seems like a bar area and a dining area although it seemed like we could have ordered food in the bar area. They have a whole row of taps to choose from and you'll find something you like no matter who you are. I spotted half a dozen AZ made beers, some popular stuff like Abyss and Hopsickle, and some oddball stuff from random breweries.

They offer 5oz glasses, which is great for the tickers or for those who just want to try something before they commit to a full glass (still ticking).

You can buy pizza by the slice and put just about anything on it. Its actually a more like a personal pizza; it's a giant slice. $5 for the slice plus another $.75 per topping.

Since we were there in the middle of a work day it wasn't overly crowded and the staff was able to attend to us easily. They were all very nice and helpful in answering questions and pour beer.

Would definitely return if ever in Tuscon again.

1702 is the best beer bar in the state (sorry Papago). I think their variety changes a lot more than other places. It's a very cool places with a great atmosphere - I like that they've added seating in the second room. A few TVs to keep an eye on games if needed. Beers are served in correct glasses and are always top notch. They know their beer there and it shows. Sometimes it can take a little while to flag someone down to order more, so that is my only deduction here.

The selection is phenomenal. I love that they update their taplist online a lot too. They always get the big new releases and a lot of rarer stuff. Food is great as well - I really enjoy their pizza, bread and wings.

Prices are very reasonable for all beers. Unfortuantely I'm only down in Tucson once a month or so and they aren't open on Sundays (one of the days I'm usually there)
