Cool little hole in the wall kinda place. First stop on the 10 day vacation.
10 beers on tap...seven of which are craft.
Stouts, Boulder, Lagunitas, Racer 5, Yuengling all there.
Especially enjoyed the Lagunitas Gnarlywine....man what a beer and what a bargain!
For a dude from WV, this is heaven.
Prices were very reasonable. Fellowship was good as well.
Service was excellent, fodd solid, although the wings needed several more degrees of heat!
Will revisit asap!!! Have a few more days in the area and cant wait to stop again.

Good ol' dd Peckers, a classic dive - checked this place out about a year ago, but paid no attention to what was going on beer-wise. Made my first trip back since last summer to find some great beers!
10 brews on tap, about 6 of which were top-notch (for Charleston, at least): Brooklyn IPA, Rogue Deadliest, OB's Little Yella Pils, Smuttynose Gravitation, Victory Hop Wallop, and something else (... in addition to Guinness, Shocktop, Yuengling and... nooo... Bud Light) - sorry, can't remember them all. Bottle selection was slightly above average: in addition to all the usual suspects (Heineken, Amstel Light, Sierra Nevada, PBR, Corona, blah blah blah) they had a few Victory, Terrapin and Rogue selections.
Food was typical bar fare, maybe a touch below average, though: burgers, wings ($10 all you can eat on Sat / Sun), sandwiches, nachos, etc - nothing mind-blowing and definitely not impressed.
I've gotta say, I was a little shocked to walk in and see more TV's showing the Tony's than the NBA Finals... not that I'm the biggest NBA fan, but still!
Service was excellent - the bartender filled me in on all the beers they had been getting in as of late (good stuff: Stone, Great Divide), plus hooked me up with a Smuttynose Gravitation - where can you go in Charleston and get a Belgian quad on the house??! Nice...

The evening I visited this establishment was the first warm day of the early spring, so the place was packed inside and outside. Due to that, the service was a bit lacking. I had to ask for water refills and beer refills all night, rather than being offered them.
The food was pretty good. I had a chicken fiesta salad or something that was huge and was pretty damn good.
The beer selection was okay but nothing mind blowing. They had Founders Impy Stout and Double Bastard on draft, which were the only real standouts I can remember.
The prices are unbeatable. They were offering about 10 beers that were around $2 a bottle to reduce inventory. One was Stone Pale Ale and the other was Chimay; how they keep prices so low is beyond me.
This isnt a real beer nerd haven. The typical patrons were BMC bikers and the young crowd doing Jaeger bombs and other fruit juice/ liquor drinks. Go for the pretty good if not limited selection and the prices.

I got to admit this was really not as bad as I thought it would be, at least looking at it from the outside. It really had me scared as it looked like a couple of the dives I used to hit in Florida. But was pleasantly suprised. Decent selection from COAST, nice smutty and some BCS, not bad. Some stone on as well. Not really a scene here to speak of, but it was still a decent place to go to and hang out. Odd location but it was right down the street from Avondale and Gene's, would make a nice little run, which in fact it did. Still not bad at all and I would go again, more likely for lunch.

Popped down here one late Tuesday night with a good buddy, we craved wings and this place fit the bill -- not to mention how can you resist a name like D.D. Peckers?
DDP is a borderline dark, dingy southern bar, at least at 10pm. Green pleather booths, lots of TVs blaring sports, neon beer signs, and has a spacious back porch that looks like it could get crowded on hot summer nights. This was a cold January night, and the place was quiet.
Tap list was small but mighty impressive for a wing shack. The usual BMC stuff, Yuengling, blah blah -- but wait! Also on draft that night:
Brooklyn Black Chocolate
Stone IPA & Double Bastard
Oak Aged Yeti
and Allagash Tripel on the "up next" chalkboard.
I can live with that. As far as I could tell, all beers were served in pint glasses for $4. Let me tell you, $4 pints of BBC are rather deadly. The Coast beer was old (damn!) but the other 3 brews we had were fresh and served fine. Waitress was attentive and no-nonsense and the food came out quick. Cool.
Appetizer portions were huge, the plate of fries was massive. Fries were decent, basic crinkle cut stuff. The pita dip we got, not so much, but ya can't win 'em all. The real reason we showed up, the wings, were very well done, a little pricey but fat and well cooked - buttery, flavorful and juicy. Lots of flavors, we tried 3 and they were all pretty darn great. The Caribbean wings were tried on a recommendation from a review here, and they are GOOD.
So yeah, this is a fine little bar with great wings, a small and solid tap list, and while it won't knock your socks off, it's probably the best choice for wings & beer in the area. Recommended. I'll be back.

a-it seems no one sits inside besides at the bar, pretty dark and desolate. the outside seating is much much better.
q-quality goes to food, as for some of the tables and chairs, they're really beat up.
s-can't complain, got me beer and food in no time.
s-now here's the great part, the beers are amazing! who would've thought this place would carry so many? smuttynose, on tap, nough said.
f-pretty damb good. i recommend the spinach and artichoke dip (fantastic) and the wings. best Caribbean style wings i ever had.

So, maybe I'm biased because I do all their beer stuff but this is a place not to be missed. West Ashley has gotten a bad rap for, at least, the last 5 years that I have lived here but this is a diamond in the rough. I will break it down.
Appetizers the size of entrees. The "basket-o-fries" should be changed to "bucket-o-fries" as that's about as many as you get, gently seasoned to where you don't need the ubiquitous ketchup chaser.
Pecker's is known for their chicken wings and I can tell you first hand, they are the best in the world. I lived in western NY and hour from Buffalo (the home of wings) and I can vouch for these wings as I have also had wings all over the world. 24 different flavors plus whatever specials they have in the kitchen. All-you-can eat wings for $10 on Sat. and Sun. makes for a great weekend snack too.
Lunch Specials all week and the best ribeye/mashed potatoes/green bean plate for 8.95 that you've ever had.
d.d.'s also has quite the array of sandwiches and can accomodate even the most discerning palate.
Beer: Ahem..."1st annual West Ashley Good Beer Festival and Homebrew Competition" last year...Lowcountry Libations (local homebrew club) meeting place...vintages...
Here's what's happening brand-wise:
Rogue, Flying Dog Gonzo and Double Dog, Victory, Ommegang, Coast, Lagunitas, Weyerbacher, Stone, Sierra Nevada Xmas... the list goes on and only gets better.Doesn't seem like much but it changes by the week so you never know what you are gonna get.
All I can say is that there are going to be some beer that will knock your socks off in the next coming months.
Clientele: d.d.'s is dog and smoker friendly (on the large outdoor patio) and you will find anyone from a colllege student to a octagenarian fighter-jet-model-maker amongst you. The vibe is friendly and if you are a Phil. Eagles or Phillies fan, you will feel right at home as the proprietors are Pennsylvania natives.
d.d. Peckers' is a place where friends are made and worries are left at the door, unless you forgot your wallet and then you are on your own. Ask for Derek, Brian or Beer Dan (me) and you will be greeted with a smile and probably a fantastic beer.
