This is a store that I visit when I'm trying to find something limited because I know that they're going to get some of even the hardest to find beers. I was too late for CBS, but the staff helped me out during the early Surly Five rush.
I've heard that the store hosts tastings, and although I've yet to attend, I appreciate stores that do this. Not only does it expose people to new/different breweries or styles but it let's customers try beers that they'd be afraid to buy a bomber or sixer of.
Cellars' mix-and-match is nice, because it includes all sizes of bottles and gives a 10% discount off of each.

This is a store I won't hesitate to visit whenever I find myself nearby.

Off City Centre Drive, this store is hard to find,it faces away from traffic and sits in a dead area of Roseville. Selection is more than adequate local, regional, and imports are to be found, they have a bomber and specialty 4pk section. Prices were a little high and also saw some very old brew. Guy running the store could not have been nicer, and was familiar and knowledgeable about beer. Not a destination store nor one i would recommend.

Great selection! They don't sell many "packed" beers individually, which is my only complaint (I'm a fan of the "build your own 6 pack" concept). Otherwise plenty of bombers, specialty 4-packs and imports. Prices seem average to slightly high compared to other stores, but you get better selection. Service is great - At times i have been looking for a particular beer and they have offered to call me when they got it in stock. Very friendly.

The selection is primo, and the staff really know their brews (not to mention wines and liquors.) Prices are a little on the high side but not too far above the average.

This is in a build that is a little run-down, but it's fairly large. They have a pretty good selection of Minnesota craft beer and other regional favorites. Nothing fabulous, but nice if you're in Roseville. Watch out for the discount rack. I saw some 2+ year old BrewDog.

I have stopped into Cellars a few times when looking for something limited that was sold out at my usual store. They are a general liquor store with a nice beer section that carries both domestic and import brews. The price is on-par with most stores in the area.

Where they lack compared to the more beer-focused stores is service. The past three times I have been there, no one has said a single word to me other than at the checkout. This has caused me to leave the additional beer I would have otherwise purchased on the shelf. I would understand if it was for lack of staff in the store, but there were always people stocking shelves in the area I was searching. Maybe they were just trying to be courteous and let me do my searching in peace, but a simple "Can I help you find anything?" goes a long way.

EDIT: I have been there a couple times since my review and the service has been much better. I started conversations with the employees in the beer section and had some good discussions with them. The selection has also gotten better (which probably has more to do with the day I was in there than anything else).

2ND EDIT: After moving, I started frequenting The Cellars Roseville more often. I have come to realize that the level of service I receive correlates very closely with how I am dressed. When I am wearing wearing work clothes (I work construction, so they are generally dirty), I get very little acknowledgement (rarely even a "hello" from the cashier. Anytime I come in non-work clothes, I get MUCH better service. The aura of "I'm better than you" is just too much for me. I make more money than they assume; my beer budget is probably more than most of their customers'. It's really offending to be treated differently because of what I'm wearing. The fact that I see others get treated the way they should makes it obvious to me that this is not just chance. With the opening of Total Wine in Roseville, I likely will not shop here again.

Overall, this is a good store to find beer. I have learned to leave it at that. I hope that some future visit amounts to more, but past experience has not given me much hope on that.

This is the closest good beer store to me. They always have the latest Surly's and Summits. Great selection of Belgians. Their singles collection is superb. They seem to carry every us craft beer that is currently brought into Minnesota. Prices seem inline with everyone else. My only complaint is that they close at 8pm on Monday-Thursday. They do open at 9am though. I could pick up something before work. In general I know what I'm looking for or just browsing. The couple times that I ask for suggestions turned out great. Got two beers I never should have picked otherwise. Overall at great place to purchase brews.

Cellars-Roseville is a good place to get good beer. The selection varies a bit from week to week but is very good in general. It has as good as selection as one can get in the Twin Cities.

They discount beer after a case so I have never bought less than a case. You can find Founders, Tyrannena, Avery, Victory, Surly, etc without a problem as well as many others. Lots of big bottles also if that is what you want.

Like I said, as good as it gets in the Twin Cities, worth the trip so long as you don't hit it during a wine sale when it is crowded.

I don't live to far from Roseville, but this is still not my "local" liquor store. I have never been there until last week, when I decided to give it a shot while I was in the area. I've heard great things about the selection so I figured it wouldn't hurt.

I love the selection at this place. An entire isle devoted to beer. Rows and rows of singles, bombers and sixers. The mix six is pretty limited, but the staff is more than willing to help you out if you want to find something that isn't on the shelf. Two cooler sections, one with your typical macro's, and another with singles, bombers and 750 ml's.

I can't say much about the service, but mine was pretty good. I had a quick question about something and he answered it correctly and promptly. I also liked the "(Insert name here)'s Choice" as in that particular staff members favorite beer.

Price was very reasonable, I found many good deals on my first trip there.

What I also liked is that it had many brews that Surdyk's and Zipp's don't currently have. I found Black Albert, Expedition Stout, and a few others, which I couldn't find at Surdyk's or Zipp's (at the time).

Overall a great place to shop for beer. I'll have to make a return trip sometime.

This is my go-to place, probably the best beer store in the northernish suburbs (at least the best one that I know of).

Selection is pretty good, one full aisle of beer and about half of that is in singles. Rows and rows of bombers. And then there is the cooler section with even more beer.

Plenty of the big names are here, just about all Bells, Rogue, Flying Dog, 2 Brothers, and Unibrowe.

Service isn't bad. They are friendly, and a few people are knowledgeable. I don't know if this would be the ideal spot for someone just getting into beer (they may feel a little overwhelmed, the Four Firkins might be a better place). But if you know what you want or what you like this is the place.

This was the best beer store I have visited on my trip to Minneapolis, mind you, I did not have the time to see them all which will have to wait my next trip.
It has a good selection of locals and imports, and happily for me, none of them refrigerated which I believe is better for the long term "health" of your brew. I packed a couple of boxes of interesting finds, mostly belgians and americans, but also some germans and british.
Service is overall good, courteous and polite, although they did box my wheat beers upside down.
Not perfect, a few things lacking, but all in all well worth your time. Will likely return on my next trip to Minneapolis.

Hadn’t been in a Cellar’s before, but this is close to a friend’s house so I thought I would give it a try.

Located in a strip mall, it’s a smaller store with mostly wine, and very little booze to speak of. The beer selection, however, is very impressive. In the very back of the store, there is a cooler devoted to singles of all varieties. In addition, there are two complete rows of craft beer, both US domestic and from overseas. Lots of Rogues, Victory, and Bell’s and lots of the Belgian favorites, too, most of which can be found on the BA top 100 list. Also, they have several variety 12 packs from some of the wider available craft brewer (Sam Adams, Goose Island, Schells, Summitt, etc). A great option to try new beers from the same brewer. They even had a Unibroue sampler pack. A great mix and match option on creating your own six pack as well. If you do this, you get 10% off.

Prices are reasonable and the service is very good. The gentleman I spoke with was genuinely excited to be talking about good beer and made several suggestions.

I will make it a point to stop by when I can. Great selection and service.

Cellars Wines and Spirits has one of the better beer selections of any store I have been to in Minnesota. The more beer friendly liqour stores I visit in Minnesota the more I realize that only a limited number of craft breweries distribute here allowing most good beers stores to carry every American craft beer brought into the state. Thus, what seperates a good selection from a great selection is the number and quality of imports a place carries. Cellars seems to carry as much craft beer as Blue Max or anywhere else in the state. There import selection is perplexing though as there are plenty of German, British, and Eastern European beers, but only a hand full of Belgains. Quality seems to be good and as didn't see anything dated past its prime. Service was somewhat lacking considering I was that at around noon on a Friday and business was slow, and nobody said a thing to me until I when to check out. This isn't my favorite store in the Twin Cities, but it is pretty good, and if I was in the area I would certainly stop in again.

When I'm "home" in Forest Lake, MN, this gem of a beer store is the closest good thing (although D & L is close). A relatively small store, but absolutely crammed with goodies. One huge aisle showcases American micros (almost everything that's available in the state, including 95% of all Rogues:)), and European singles (German, English, etc.). A smaller shelf houses Belgians and others (Baladin, Lion Stout, etc.). Although they do not have nearly the amount of Belgian's that Blue Max does, what they have is quality (Giardin Black Label, Saison Dupont, Rochefort). Unfortunately, these aisle are non-chilled and exposed to fluourescent lights. The back of the store has maybe 6 coolers filled with mostly regional micros, SA, and a little crap. Oh, and one big cooler has odd singles, imports, and some discounted goodies. I only wish they offered all of the beers they carry as singles (since I'm a beergeek). The service is excellent and pretty knowledgeable. They did a great job of ordering me Summit kegs for my wedding reception last fall! Decent value too, with something always on sale. GO!

Cellars was a great find for me after moving ot St. Paul. The selection is quite good, the staff knowledgable, and the managers willing to answer distribution questions.

The prices are a bit steep, but considering the selection... it makes sense. This place wastes very little space selling swill, and if for only that fact, i am a returning customer. And when compared to Surdyk's... the prices are pretty good.

I would agree with a previous poster in that the selection seems disjointed at times, and occasionally prices are mislabeled... but it's not really that much of a problem. Location is great, tons of parking.

I used to occasionally drop by Cellars to pick up a bottle of cheap vodka before I started really appreciating beer. I had no idea how extensive their beer selection is until last summer when I picked up a bottle of St. Bernardus at the suggestion of a friend. Especially after I joined BA, I realized that a lot of the beers discussed on here are available at Cellars.

While wine dominates most of the floor space, there are two aisles devoted to micros and imports, both in 4 or 6 packs and lots of singles from a wide range of styles. They also have many of these singles in a refrigerated section. Bell's, Rogue, Hair of the Dog, Flying Dog, Full Sail, St. Bernardus, Duvel, the list goes on...

The staff is very friendly and helpful, especially if they know that you are in the market for some good beer. They offer their assistance without being bothersome or patronizing.

I would highly recommend Cellars to those in the northen 'burbs who are looking for some good brews.

Cellars, the closest good beer store to me by far, emphasis is on wine like most other places, but definitely a great selection of beer. A big long isle of singles, which is really nice for doing tasting and foraging for new beers I like. A big selection of micros like Rogue, Lakefront, Bells, etc, encompassing about half the isle, with a good selection of English beers and your standard Germans. Also a good selection of Asian imports and one of hte better selections of Belgians that I've seen in the cities. Thought the individual beers were priced a little high, but they do have beers on sale frequently, even on real goos stuff, like the Sam Smith I got for $2 off or so, and a 10% off your purchase after 6+ micros. I kind of gave the people a beer knowledge test by asking if Sam Adams Chocolate Bock was cellerable, and he didn't really have an answer. So, in sum, great place to go for beer.

Okay folks, the kid-gloves come off and I review the infamous Roseville Cellars for the first and only time here at BA. First things first . . . ever since the Dawn of Modern Twin Cities BeerGeekery (and before BA was a gleam in the Bros' collective eye) this store has been the Be All And End All in terms of local packaged-beer selection, a bottle-shop to match the best that either the East or West Coast had to offer . . . except, of course when you consider BLUE MAX (but because the Max had -until recently- been a jealously-guarded local Beer Geek treasure trove) and Surdyk's, but, honestly? Surdyk's will always have a cantakerous beer buyer, a half-assed focus on beer, and unreliable BeerGeek staffers (anyone remember Ambleside?) who can't be counted on when you need them, and even although they're right Downtown for all of the tourists and easily-impressed folks, Surdyk's will always rate a very-distant LAST place in terms of The Best local packaged selection at retail.

But this review ain't about the Max or Sir Dick's at all, but The one and only Cellars in Roseville. Sure there are other locations in the chain, but until recently this has always been the Best of the bunch, and seeing as how they are mere miles from All Saint's Brands (sadly-defuct) warehouse this should come as no surprise: the Cellars and All Saint's Brands literally grew up together as neighborhood pals, one helping the other (note: ASB was founded, officially, in 1994, and The Cellars chain was founded only a couple of years prior) in a way not unlikely certain species of aquatic vertebrates you might see on a Jacques Cousteau special. ASB would pick up some middling-to-good line of import brew and virtually warehouse it on the sales floor at the Roseville Cellars, redistributing it to other locations if need be, but acting as a secondary warehouse for ASB and a happy-hunting-ground for local BeerGeeks of all stripes. I won't comment further on this relationship (at this point) except to say that sometimes the Cellars got stuck with some stinkers, brands that would literally collect dust on the shelves and still be sold at regular retail price to those unwary patrons looking for the rare tipple. But hey, as a bottle shop worth mention they *should* have some dead beers and labels amongst the living in order for the bottle and label collectors amongst us to take a shot at buying if so interested, drinkability not so much an afterthought as Caveat Emptor, and any BeerGeek worth his/her stripes knows how to read Julian codes as well as they do Canon Law and Aramaic.

But seriously folks, despite its succession of BeerGeek managers and beer-buyers, this location has always done their part to bring the rare and obscure to the common urban cubicle-dwelling, suburban mall-crawling / living working man, even now despite All Saint's having gone tits-up on us all. And never mind the dead bottles, the dust, the perceived clutter, the haphazardly-priced bottles (Dogfish Midas Touch for $3.95, $4.95, and $5.95 next to each other on the closeout rack? Ayinger four-packs of the same bottling-date sitting next to each other at different prices? Niagara Falls Eisbock at original markup in the cooler? Yup, this and more!), and the stacks of Rogue Morimoto Imperial Pilsener on the floor, this is and always will be the second-best place in town to buy packaged beer.

And I should know, I've been shopping here for over ten years!
Enjoy your I Love Beer crawl . . .

It could take me awhile to get through the selection at this place. They have a better selection than their store in Plymouth, they prices seem to be better too. Of the different Cellars stores there are this is closest to me so I'll visit from time to time when in the area. Located in a strip mall with a Byerly's close to it just off Cnty Rd C. but the Jiffy Lube. more then enough parking here. Decent selection. Standard imports from England and Germany with a boost of new ones from time to time showing up. Also a semi stocked Belgians. Micros take up a good portion of the first main shelf with Bell's, Boulevard, Anchor, Pyramid, Victory, Rogue, among others, with some shelves of newer seasonals from various breweries. Lots of local choices, Summit, Lake Superior, Leines, Schells. Good staff, friendly, knowledgable and always fun to talk with and they're always trying to get in new beers to the area. Perhaps a bit pricy with some items but they do give the comman themed 10% off for 6 or more singles, like at other Cellar's stores. Always a reason to grab an extra of something.
