Forgot to post a review until now. Visited this place last fall after driving up from Olympia and stopping off in Tacoma/Federal Way to photograph what was essentially the wreck of the Kalakala, then visiting the Boeing Museum for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Didn't find out the actual age but it's obvious once you come in that this is one of the oldest places in Seattle. It's got that old and lived-in feel without seeming to try, though there are pictures on the walls that help give an idea of the age of the place. Wood everywhere, looks kept up without really trying. Over the speakers, old-school country was playing at the perfect volume - just enough to tell it was there and what it was.

The Georgetown lineup was present in it's entirety, along with a couple other regional choices. I think the only "macro" was Rainier, probably more out of nostalgia than anything else, as the Saloon is across the street from the slowly crumbling original Rainier brewery. Also in convenient proximity to a nice bottleshop whose name eludes me at the moment.

Service was quick and friendly without being "hovery." I think I had a patty melt with fries that was competently made and not too expensive.

Not a beer mecca, but a nice old place in a cool old Seattle neighborhood. I'd visit again if in Georgetown.

Worth it for historical reasons alone, but there is more, check ou the back room and the pictures along the way. Ordered a rare beer (only 1 keg per saloon/pub) and was offered history of the place after showing interest. Completely randomly happened to park near this place and remember reading that this was the oldest saloon in Seattle. Prohibition lead to it closing its doors back in the day so it may not get credit as such but worth the visit if near G-Town.

I went to Jules Maes Saloon on Georgetown yesterday after work and found it to be a really nice place. It's just two blocks from the 9lb Hammer on Airport Way, just across from the old home of the Georgetown Brewery.

Jules Maes has a pretty decent selection of beer; 8 craft taps, all local, plus PBR. They carry the full line of Georgetown brews currently available, even moreso than the 9lb Hammer, including the tasty Lucille and harder-to-find Chopper's red ale.

The atmosphere is just what I like: dark with dark wood all over the place. There are regular tables, a bar, some booths and a few benches, all old dark wood. Decorations are eclectic and range from antlers mounted on the wall to retro beer signs (including an awesome run-down Olympia neon sign).

The staff were very friendly and service was prompt, although the place was only about half full when I was there. They have a full-service kitchen, but I didn't have anything there. I will have to check out their menu the next time I drop in.

Overall, it was a damn nice place to have a pint and, while their beer selection isn't particularly wide, what they have is extremely local and very high quality.
