Visited at 1PM the day after the 2006-7 Super Bowl to pick up a keg of the Imperial Stout for a fest. I didnt drink (though Id had their beer before) but I did get a great look at the keg system as I jostled them around to get at the one I needed.
The place is so small. As evidence of that fact the cooler I was wrestling the keg in was right inside to your right...you can touch it as you walk past it to the bar. The bar....dingy, dusty...the bottle collection that adorns the sometimes Abbey-themed decor, sometimes British-pub looking decor is old and dusty. Its a dive in short....but my kind of dive. The beers they have contract brewed for them are decent to pretty damn good and they have a solid selection of guest taps. Old Chub was on along with a few others when I was there. Definitely the place to go for beer on South Beach. They are also the only place in Florida that sells growlers so bring your growler if you go or buy one from them for $7. I got a growler of the Quad and that set me back $35, but the other offerings are cheaper.

Between the selection of beers on tap and those in the bottle, every beer drinker should find something they'd enjoy. I was cracking up as I read other reviews, because I had the same impression as many other BA's when I first saw the place (just my kind of place-a shit hole, and no I wouldn't bring my mom here but I would sure as hell bring my dad). In fact I almost left thinking it was closed and in fact couldn't be a bar! Parking wasn't a challenge, and it was a Sunday when I went so there were free hot dogs available (which weren't bad, but I did take the offering as an indication of what was available on the menu, and it did indeed appear to be a microwave/toaster oven kitchen). I was a little disapointed they contract brew, until after I tried the beers.
I started off with the Bock, which was the house special that day at $3 a pint. It was a decent bock. After that I had the IPA, which also was pretty good and well hopped as any good IPA should be.
I rated the atmosphere at a 4.5, and even contemplated a 5.0. When you consider the context (i.e. the location) of this establishment, it is utterly unpretencious, and reminded me of a good neighborhood in bar in Chicago.

The place was small and dark that was OK. The beer selection was good and the prices were good. The beers that were brewed for The Abbey Brewing Company by Indian River Brewing Company were better then average Micros. The price of the food is high and not good. I ordered Chicken Tenders and it was like two Tyson Chicken Patties cut in to slices for 7 dollars, you could get a whole pack of at Walmart for about 5 dollars. If you are in the area it is worth the trip for the beers, just dont eat the food it is a rip off and what you get.

I give this place a "4" in atmosphere because I like sh*thole bars. If you don't like an earthy, smokey, hole in the wall, walk a couple blocks and pay 30$ to get in and 15$ for a heiniken. Personally, I think this bar would be better in the grove, but hey, if I'm on the beach this is a never-miss. The beer selection is by far the best in this area of Miami, they have an adequate selection of bottles, good and unusual beers on tap, and some above-average house brews.
The place is cool as hell, it's not on the strip, if Bukowski came to Miami, he would have hung out in the Abbey. The bartender knows your name after about 4 visits, and the crowd is chill enough that you could walk in with shorts on and a oil-stained t-shirt and not get sneered at. Screw the clubs, go to the Abbey.

I visited the Abbey Brewing Co. on a business trip to Miami and it was a sight for sore beer drinking eyes. I spent the majority of the week drinking wine and some regular beers but when I found this place on the weekend I was in heaven. As other reviews note, the selection is not overly large but the bottles they have are a very respectable selection of mainly Belgian's. They also have a nice old bottle collection above the booths that rund down the left side of the bar. The Abbey beers themselves were impressive. I had the 12 degrees, IPA and Russian Imperial Stout and I really enjoyed the 12 and RIS the most. I talked to the brewer/bartender himself and he was a very nice and knowledgeable guy. I complemented him on his beers and the bar and he said they take 1st place in a one bar race on South Beach. So true since most of the bars and clubs there don't feature a large selection of beers.

This sure doesn't feel like South Beach...dark, smokey, small, no pink flamingos...
Pretty cramped with booths immediately on the left, bar on the right with 12 or so taps including the 4 house beers (Quad, IPA, Imp Stout, Dub). Quad, IPA, Stout were nice representations of their respective styles. Interesting reading the prior reviews because the guest tap selection doesn't seem to change all that often. Other taps were Bernardus Wit, Rogue Hazelnut, Anchor Steam, Spaten, etc. Bottle selection was top notch, mostly Belgian or Belgian styled, Rochefort, Unibroue, Chimay, etc. Good stuff.
Food consisted of a deep fryer and some hotdogs. Nothing special at all. Service suffered because there was one guy responsible for tending bar, taking orders and serving food. Not his fault, but slow nontheless.
Far removed from the countless trendy hotspots, this is a low-key, solid, beer drinking stop while in South Beach.

This place is about a 15-20 minute detour off of I-95, but definitely worth it if you happen to be passing through the area.
Tried two of their beers, the IPA and the Imperial Stout, both of which I thought were excellent. The IPA had a load of hop flavor, but not as much bitterness as you'd expect, a nice change of pace, I thought. The Imperial Stout, as the other reviewers have pointed out, is sublime. Creamy, roasty, not too sweat, chocolatey, with a nice foamy BROWN head. They had two other beers on tap, a Belgian abbey style quadrupel, and a bock. Interestingly, the IPA was around 6% abv, but the other three were in the 10% range. Strong beers, and the Stout was served to me in a regular 16oz American pint glass. Definitely gave my liver a workout.
Not much to say about the atmosphere. One long room, with a high ceiling, a row of booths on one side, a decent sized bar on the other. A stack of community papers (those radically bent free papers you find in most major cities, with the funny R-rated comic strips and 20 pages of ads for massage parlors) sat at one end, and two TV's playing sports on the other, so even if you don't strike up a conversation with the friendly bartender, you can always find something to occupy yourself while sipping a beer.
Besides their 4 beers, there was also some Rogue Chocolate Stout and Nut Brown ale, Anchor Steam, St Bernardus (wit or abt 12?), Old Thumper on cask (real cask?, I dunno, I didn't ask), a few others, about 12 taps total plus the hand pump. Plus bottles. Not a single macro brew in sight.
I didn't try the food, none of it looked good to be honest. And since the bartender was the only person on duty, I figured he must be the one making it, which means it's all probably frozen pre-cooked type product.
I wouldn't eat the food unless I was very hungry, and it was my only option. But that's the only remotely bad thing I have to say about this place, go there, enjoy the beer, the beer is good.

This little pub sells a lot of beer, open to 5 am nightly. Cigar smoke but good air conditioning, standing room outside and into the Spanish grocery next door (they don't mind and sell a lot of soft drinks). Its also quieter out there. a bit of food, and a kick-arse selection of beer unmatchable by the many art deco places nearby. 14 taps including 4 of their own, and a hand pump cask. The owner is the brewmaster and a perfectionist. Don't miss the Russian imperial stout. Also a couple dozen top bottles of the world, including Westys, St Bernadus (the Witt was on tap) and Rochforts. Raymond's own brews can skate on the same ice. If you are in the area, go out of your way.

Not that hard to find at at all. It's on a number street, just go to the right number block. Rather small place with a bunch of house beers (stand outs were the 12 degree and the imperial stout. the bock was interesting but not outstanding like the other two I tried). A bar with 12 or so stools, several booths, one dart board. We had a great time and went there both nights we were in SB. It's quite walkable from the center of South Beach activity. Service was friendly. Bonus points: all music came from an iPod attached to a stereo receiver.

The Abbey is a small, dark, friendly bar a bit away from the beach (and therefore also the South Beach posers). Beers are not brewed on the premises - however the house beers are brewed at Tampa to the specific recipes of the Abbey's owner, so it is as good as being a brewpub.
The bar is on the right as you walk in, just past an enclosed cold room where the beers are kept. The taps, and one cask beer engine, are at the side of the bar and go directly into the cold room without any exposed piping where the beer could warm up. At the front, and on the other side of the cold room, is a small area with a dart board. Seating bays are on the left.
The Abbey beers on my visit were IPA (6.2%), 12 (Trappist Double style) (10.5%), Imperial Stout (9.2%), and Bock (10.0%). Also on was Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar, St. Bernardus Wit, Dunedin Razzberry Wheat, Anchor Steam, Tucher Hefeweizen, among others. The bottle selection included beers from Ommegang, Moortgat, Lindemans, Samuel Smith, Rochefort, Chimay, Anchor, and Unibroue.
Cask-conditioned Shipyard Old Thumper was tried (several times while we were in town!) and enjoyed very much.
Excellent, knowledgeable staff. Opening hours are 1pm to 5am daily. Basic, instant, but very satisfactory food menu served by the bartender.
An excellent oasis in the sandy Miami Beach beer desert, long may it thrive.
