Pours from the 12 oz bottle an impressive copper color with a foamy 2 finger head. There seems to be almost no carbonation going on inside the glass, I had to look really hard to find a small handful of tiny bubbles. Aroma is surprisingly faint with almost no hop presence...I get mostly the aroma of toasted malt. 1st sip brings a sharp note of spicy, piney hops, but it's not the overwhelming in-your-face hoppiness that comes with most American IPAs. Mouthfeel is right down the middle, neither watery of heavy. Overall, this is a decent, very drinkable IPA, a refreshing change from all the overdone hop bombs out there.

Bottle to English pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking ruddy amber color with a small quickly receding foamy head. Mild lace.
The aroma had some floral hops meshing with some biscuit malt then some earthy to leathery tones dryly meet in the middle.
The flavor moderately leaned into a dry sweet floral to earthy hoppiness. Some toffee and caramel with some nuttiness. Slight aftertaste of biscuits, floral hops and toffee.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied, perhaps a touch under. Good carbonation. Standard ABV - felt fine. Finish was somewhat nutty with floral hop bitterness.
Overall, as an English IPA, I'd say this is a fine one worthy of coming back to.

L) This beer pours a dark amber hue, it is definitely on the darker side as far as English IPAs go. There is a decent head, and minimal lacing.

S) The smell is quite lovely. It is lacking hop character, but that can be forgiven by the fantastic malt presence on the nose. You can perceive nuttiness, light caramels and butter toffees, all well rounded by toasty biscuit. An absolute pleasure to sniff, would be rated higher if my nose was able to find some more lovely British hop character.

T) The malt profile of the nose is present in the taste. Again, the hoppiness is more nuanced than it should be. The beer is near the end of it's freshness date, so this will obviously play a factor.

F) The beer has appropriate carbonation and a medium body.

O) The beer is quite solid, I will try it again at some point much closer to brew date.

Poured from a bottle into a nonic glass. The color is a hazy orange with a pleasant floral smell. The initial taste is balanced but ends with a mild hop flavor.

Not sure why but there is no born on or drink by date so I am not sure how fresh the beer is. So I bought just one bottle. I started checking for this information after I had a really skunked beer (brewer to remain nameless). Turns out some beer on the shelf had passed its drink by date by months.

Having said that, this is a pretty good IPA and I would buy it again if I knew the bottled by or drink by date.

Appearance: amber/orange with small, frothy head; head dissipated quickly, with not a lot of lacing

Smell: ah, that distinctive UK IPA with Fuggles hops smell...like it much better than US hops; pick up some biscuit malt and fruit notes; love it.

Taste: sweet malts with a big hit of earthy hops right up front; finishes slightly sweet with a bit of hop bitterness hanging around to balance it. Good flavor

Mouthfeel: fairly creamy, almost like a double IPA in the mouthfeel. Should be more attenuated and crisper. Good though.

Remarks: got this to remember what a British IPA with UK hops tastes like. I'd buy it again.

12 oz bottle into a teku.

Appearance: Pours a semi-cloudy copper color. The head is a finger high and off-white in shade. While its texture is superbly creamy, its duration isn't great. A small but thick ring of lacing sticks to the glass. (3.75)

Smell: I expect esters in an English-style IPA, and I'm getting them - as the dominant note, in fact. Plenty of peach, apricot, and cherry hits my nose. There are some leafy, earthy hops which balance both the esters and the biscuity malts. St. George nailed all the aspects I like in a English IPA. (3.75)

Taste: This actually is assertively hoppy - only, instead of citrus, I get plenty of tobacco, wood, and earth. Having said that, notes of orange marmalade, apricot, peach, and biscuit all make themselves known around the back end. This is very well done stylistically, and also quite enjoyable in general. (3.75)

Mouthfeel: The feel is somewhat full and round, which I like. On the other hand, it seems excessively slimy/syrupy for what it's trying to accomplish. Even with decent carbonation, it feels like this beer sits around too long on the palate. At least the flavor is good enough to not make it annoying. (3)

Overall: My only quibbles here lie in the overly bulky mouthfeel. Otherwise, this is a damn good English IPA that's a nice change of pace from all the tropical fruit assaults I'm used to (and enjoy, if I'm honest). The way this beer blends ale esters with a vibrant, defined Fuggles flavor is why I like it so much. I'll definitely buy this again, maybe even by the six pack. (3.75)

3.68/5: More or less what I want from an English IPA

Poured from a bottle into a nonic, the beer is a crystal clear, caramel coloring, with a slow flow of carbonation throughout the body, and a low profile, filmy, clingy, white head. Aromas of tangy sweet caramel, grapefruit and lemon zest, and subtle bitterness. Extremely balanced nose. Flavors are tangy sweet caramel and toffee forward, with subtle notes of bitter and peppery hops in the backbone, and a highlight of grapefruit led citrus sweet throughout. Roasted overtones rough up the overly sweet palate, with a big, full body. The aftertaste is more of the citrus notes shining through, but still with the roasted malt notes an English IPA is known for. Smooth, tangy sweet, bitter, and dry finish. Good beer.

Served on tap at the Crab Shack in Newport News, VA. Pours a nice amber color with a frothy white head and decent lacing. The aroma is distinctly floral with fruity accents and the taste is well balanced, hoppy, but not overpowering. Mouthfeel is solid with a good bitter aftertaste, again not overpowering. Overall this is a solid IPA.
