Had this beer right before I drank the Dunkel version of it. This one poured out as a hazy golden color with a fluffy white head on top. The smell of the beer gives off the typical banana and clove aromas that a true hefeweizen should. The taste of the beer has the soft flavors of wheat and grains with just a hint of lemon in there. The mouthfeel of the beer was smooth, lightly carbonated and refreshing. Overall it's a pretty good brew.

Bottle poured into weizen glass: freshness date: Feb 2012

A: Looks like a weissbier, thick three finger head

S: Smells like wheat and barley

T: Tastes like a regular pale lager rather than a like a hefeweizen.

M: Feels like a weissbier, it has that moderate mouthfeel

Overall, this is a most forgettable beer.

Appearance: Cloudy, gold color with a big, fluffy head that fades slowly with chunky lacing.

Aroma: Pretty standard, yeasty with some banana over grassy, light malt aroma.

Taste: A little thin on the front with some light wheat malt, then a building of some spiciness which picks-up some chemical taste towards the back end. There's a touch of clove in the finish and then a lingering phenolic taste.

The Rest: A decent German hefe. As I look at the bottle, I noticed that the best before date is 6/11, which may explain some of the off notes.

500 ml bottle poured into a weiss glass.
Best Before End 2011/04, no info.

A - Poured with bottle-swirled yeast, this hefe is a cloudy goldenrod yellow in color and crowned by a relentless white head. A little lace is left covering the glass, but not as much as the typical hefe.

S - The pungent aroma offers lots of earthy clay aroma with mild white pepper and balanced clove. The aromatic banana livens it all up, bringing the esters full-circle. Soft wheat stays in the back.

T - A little lighter in flavor than anticipated, this hefe is certainly yeasty and potent with esters of earth, clove, and banana, but lacking a nice light malt backbone. Soft wheat is there though.

M - Light-bodied and soft in feel with a well-carbonated but non-intrusive spritzy finish. Pretty clean and lightly dry finishing.

O - Solid across the board, this hefe isn't stand-out amongst the sea of great German ones, but it's certainly drinkable and refreshing on a warm day!

500 mL bottle,

A: Pours a cloudy gold with a medium white head, very good retention, some lace.

S: Wheat malt, lemon, quite fruity and yeasty, banana.

T: Dominated by the wheat flavour with a clear lemony tang. Very light esters, no real yeast flavours, I'm missing those.

M: Light-bodied, crisp carbonation, biting, creamy, nice feel.

O: An OK hefe, the flavours aren't really there, but the overall structure is good.

Pours a hazy golden on a weiss glass. 2 inch creamy head that faded quickly into a tiny lacing.
Sweet cloves on the nose, citrus fruit, a bit medicinal too.
Some tartness on the tongue, chewy mouthfeel, a bit of banana and cloves again.
Hint of hops, way back there.
Very smooth, very drinkable.
Overall a decent Weiss.

500 ml bottle poured into an imperial pint glass.

Apearance: The beer right off the bat poured a crazy 2-3 finger head. Unbeliavable head folks. Golden yellow straw color with signs of a lot of carbonation running up the side of the glass.

Smell: The smell of sweet malts, cloves, apples, and bananas like a true hefe should smell.

Taste: Everything in the smell, but nicely blended amongst all the flavors.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium amount of carbonation, light bodied, and easy to drink.

Overall: This is a great tasting and enjoyable hefe-weiss beer. Will be enjoying and ordering more in the future.

Poured on tap into an official Julius Echter wheat ale glass at Laschet's Inn in Chicago.

A stupid off white creamy head, stuck with stupid retention that will not budge. Shape of glass pulls of great lemon hues of yellow to dull orange and brown throughout the glass. Just sick looking.

Nose is a very light clove, even some mild char, not so much fruity with a dense wheat.

Taste is a dense thick cream and sweet sugar hints of clove and wheat. Taste on the palate matches creamy feeling with not much carbonation.

Overall a great solid Hefeweizen on tap with a glass that really showcases off the beer.

I poured this beer into a large Wheat Beer glass and the resulting head was enormous raising almost 3 fingers high above the rim of the glass and as thick as shaving cream, But my excitement soon ended with my first sip because it was flat and tasteless, I thought I may have gotten a bad one so I opened two more and both were the same both in appearance and taste.

First beer of the night at Porter Cafe in WR. Expertly poured by my server into a Julius Echter hefe glass. Huge white head atop a creamed corn colored body. A very nice looking glass of beer to behold. The aroma was a nice combination of banana and bubble gum. Taste hit on all cylinders as to what a German hefe should be. Bread, fruit, and cloves were all present in the flavor. Mouthfeel was nice and smooth. A great beer to enjoy, with no real faults. A tasty example of the German style. Drinking it from the cool glass was an added bonus.

.5L, purchased stateside, best before end of January 2012.

Pours a very light and cloudy straw orange with the requisitely fluffy Hefeweizen head. Nice lacing and retention.

Aroma is tart at first, with some faint banana in the back. Not at its freshest.

Flavor is pretty good, if slightly watered-down tasting. Bready and lightly banana-like, with a pretty dry finish. Yeasty, but not heavy. Definitely on the lighter side for the style, which is fine. The mouthfeel is excellent: fluffy and effervescent.

A good, not great, Hefeweizen.

Pours a massive 4" all white head of velvety foam which lasted a long long time. Hazy naples yellow color body. Smells of spice and yeast. Taste is more spice including white pepper plus even a hint of smokiness. Medium length finish. A step up from many of the Hefes out there.

I poured from a bottle into a weizen glass.

A: The head was thick and hearty. It had a hazy golden color.

S: There was not much of a nose, a little grassy and faint citrus scents.

T: There were banana notes with hints of apricot or apple, which were the prominent flavors though no one flavor was overpowering, it was a smooth drink.

M: Very effervescent and refreshing.

Overall: This is an easy to drink beer refreshing, not overly hoppy or malty well balanced and good example of a hefe with the banana notes, and thick head. This is a regular beer in our stock.

Poured into a pint glass...

Appearance-Maybe the best head I've ever since on a Hefeweizen. Considering many hefeweizens bodys look similar this is getting a 5. Frothy 3 Finger head that I'm enjoying just sit there and watching the bubbles slowly pop. Body is dark orange, hazy as hell.

Smell-Banana, Orange, Lemon. A tropical drink. I decent clove and wheat as well.

Taste-Very sweet, and lots of carbonation. Banana and Clove are there along with some orange and some light funk.

Mouthfeel-Carbonation is rather prickly and a little bit too much. Still pretty refreshing and drinkable.

Overall-Another pretty good Hefe, the appearance of this really turned me on. Another reasonably imported Hefeweizen that I can get at my local liquor store.

Poured from a bottle into a Weihenstephaner Weizen glass.

Large, 3-finger fluffy head dissipates in an average amount of time leaving a thin ring of sustained head like a crown. This beer has a classic golden hue while sitting in the shade.

Can pick out banana and yeast in the nose

Tastes like it smells. You can taste banana, yeast, and some slight citrus maybe orange. Cloves and spice are not overly present here. Really easy drinking.

The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. There's some light initial carbonation, but mostly a flat smooth feeling that coats the mouth with lingering remnants of a bready feeling.

I could drink 3 of these in quick succession and keep going. A very solid Bavarian Hefewiezen.

T - nice balance of hefeweizen flavors wheat, banana bubblegum and spices.

F - medium bodied with a creamy, smooth feel.

Paid $3.99 for a 500ml bottle with a 9/2011 freshness date.

Poured into a pint glass, served at 43 degrees. It was a very hazy golden honeyed color with a gigantic ivory seafoam-like head. Eventually dissipated to a thin blanket with minimal lacing.

The nose was grainy, yeast, coriander

The flavors coming through were bread with citrus, then some hop making a showing along with some spice notes of coriander..

No more than medium bodied and very well balanced with neither hops, carbonation, yeast, malts, or any overwhelming flavors knocking it out of whack. Supremely drinkable.

Top tier hefe. I had the Shiner hefe last night and the difference is readily evident and appreciated.

Poured from large bottle into hefe glass.

A: Pours a darker, hazy orange with a fluffy 2 finger head. A typical pour for a hefe, nice color and head.

S: Citrus, spice, wheat, mellow hops, and earthy tones. Orange/grapefruit. Corriander.

T: A nice spicey/citrus taste at first. You get the wheat taste midway and finishing. Well balanced.

M: Light bodied, creamy and smooth. Very nice mouth coating.

O: A very good example of a hefe, really nice taste and smell with a good finish.

A- looks like a classic hefe: cloudy yellow, creamy head, almost no lace.

S- Yeasty and wheaty, some lemony citrus, banana, vanilla

T- all the qualities of the smell are here, but interestingly it is the vanilla that is really coming through to me. It almost tastes like cream soda, but the other dimensions make it more complex.

O- Man I love a good hefe while eating a brat on my deck with the family, and this one delivered.

A perfect hefe appeance. Nice gold color, very cloudy, with a big white head.
Smell is almost perfect banana bread The clove are really limited in the aroma.
Taste falls short of where the smell starts. The banana/clove hits at the beginning but quickly fades giving way to a medicinal taste.
It does have a nice creamy feel. This isn't a bad hefe but I'll pay the extra cash and choose from several other German offerings.

Appearance: Poured into a half liter weizen glass. The color is a cloudy, dirty dishwater orange. Three fingers of thick, white head dissipated to leave a fluffy cap and trails of foam on the glass.

Smell: Hefeweizen heavenliness. Banana, apple, clove, yeast, pepper, lemon, orange, and maybe a hint of bubblegum.

Taste: Bavarian to a tee. It has a thick, wheaty mouthfeel packed with flavors that mostly mirror the smell. Banana, apple, yeast, orange, and the hint of bubblegum. There is not as much clove, pepper, or lemon zest, but I will not complain.

Drinkability: It is good stuff — on par with other Bavarian greats. There is nothing orgasmic or special about it, but it is still high quality.

This beer poured with a massive head that eventually subsided and left behind some thick lacing. There are some hints of citrus, but mostly light breads and yeast aromas. Slight metallic, but sweet taste with a bitter aftertaste. Lightly grainy or yeasty. The drink is very refreshing, light, and watery. Very good on a hot summer night. Overall, a really refreshing hefeweizen.

500 mL bottle with a best before date of 2011/11. Pours very hazed, medium gold color with a large cap of dense, fluffy white head. Retention and lacing are expectedly great.

Nose has a nice, soft banana-clove aroma combo. Niether being dominant and both complimented by some grainy wheat. Very nice hefe on the smell.

This is one of the softer weissbiers I have had and the yeast does not go too crazy on the banano-clove esters. Uber-refreshing and goes down very easy. This is one of those hefes you could drink a second liter stein of in one sitting without getting bored or too yeasted-out. Id have to say I am very impressed with this beer, I like it at least as much as Weihenstephaner.

500ml. Gold pour, large white head when poured. Laces pretty well as it goes down.

Aroma, a yeasty straw/hay. Limited banana and clove.

Taste matches, which is why I prefer German Hefe's, very under control banana and clove. The wheat shines without being blown away by spice. US versions allow those flavors to be out of control in my opinion.

Crisp, clean light bodied, extreamly easy drinking. Carbonation is higher than in US versions. Most importantly I would want to drink more, which I usually don't with Hefe's.
