A nice clean and cashier- friendly atmosphere. A fairly large selection of beers and has been expanding for the past 3 years. Has a good selection of micros and imports. Just check for expiration dates on some imports. They have a good refrigerated selection of sixers and bombers. Can build your own six packs. Sells a good selection of growlers which changes on weekly basis and this has also expanded in the past year. Prices are reasonable. Sometimes you can walk in the store and they will have a beer or wine tasting. Join their bottle club (free) and save on some products especially growler sales and re-fills.
Lots of wines ad hard liqour all at discount store prices.

As far as chains go this is a good egg.
the service is OK unless you get certain people. The cashiers run hot and cold as well. It is a large store with a really nice selection of everything and you get a mix of everything (redundant ? heh ?). I'm not a wine guy but the store seems skewed towards the wine thing (which is ok btw) but if you get the right employees they are good beer folks as well. The beer section is well stocked and has lots of options (build your own 6, employee picks, highlights, new stuff, discounts etc.)
The growler station is the star here. Granted, the selection overall in the regular bottle dept is great but the growldog station is what makes this a good destination. Generally zach is in the house and can help you with your growl needs. Some employees sub when he is not around and it is hit or miss (like waiting for a ton, or getting a super nice employee, that much of a swing, they try so give em kudos on that). They get some nice stuff on tap and always give a break to club card holders (a free card you can get at the register). Some weeks the selection is a bit lackluster but usually there is at least one great thing on tap worth your while. They sell empty growlers (liter/2liter) but I prefer my old german type with a flip top lid (although the carton brew alum ones are pretty nice).
to sum up I end where I begin... for a chain they do a good job at this locale making this a nice stop... and mega easy off major roads if you know your way around the area

I have discovered Joe Canals in Iselin about 3 months ago, due to the growler filling station, and am I glad I did!!! Beer wise, 3 things differentiate this place from others I have visited, the people there are great, 5 of every 6 employees seem to really enjoy working there and make the whole shopping experience pleasurable( big shout out to Zack). The prices are awesome, brag to friends all the time about the money I have paid for things that they have also bought in their stores, that I got for significantly less. And the biggest thing is the growler station!!! 14 taps, and always seems to be 6- 10 very desirable beers to get. Have found beers there that I have never seen on tap anywhere in the area, and never feel like I am paying too much, usually feel I am getting a bargain.
This is a full service beer/wine/liquor store, and on that note, the beer selection may not be the largest you will ever see, but the stuff I am looking for is almost always there, with a lot of surprises. My favorite beer store currently, and no doubt, seems to be getting better each month.
Located between Woodbridge Mall and Parkway entrance on Rt 1 south, very busy, so keep your eyes open and alert!!

A nice clean and friendly atmosphere. A fairly large selection of beers. Has a good selection of micros, A good selection of imports. They have a good refrigerated selection of sixers and larger bottles. Can build your own six packs. Sells a good selection of growlers which changes on weekly basis. Prices are reasonable. Customer service can be improved a bit in the area of beer knoweledge. Also they will not break a sixpack to make singles. Overall a descent place to buy beer and other liquor related products.

I found out about this place when I googled liquor stores in New Jersey that fill growlers. It's quite a trip for me but well worth it. They have a huge selection of cold six packs, variety packs, bombers and 40's of Macros and Micro breweries.
I found some brews that I can't get up in Northern Jersey; it's weird how thirty miles can change what you normally see. They have bombers, singles, single cans, on a long shelf.
Customer service is great here. I have been asked if I needed help three times. Once, by a guy when I was next to the shelf of beers and another time from a lady when I was checking out the growler filling station. She asked if I wanted to get a growler filled. I mentioned I had my own growlers in my car, would I be able to use them. She said absolutely.
I got my growlers from my car and I was helped immediately by the beer manager, Zack, who was very personable. He knew his beer and we talked about what type of beers we enjoy. He even gave me a few recommendations on some beers to try, he personally walked over to the shelf after he filled my growlers to show his recommendations to me. That's what I call customer service!
It's great that they have a discount card, the lady cashier who checked me out talked me into signing up. It's free, it saves me money, why wouldn't I? I'm sure I will be coming back to this store again.

Good place, about 10 minutes from Rutgers New Brunswick. Seemed fairly pricey on a few things. Saw some great stuff there, and the sales are awesome! Unfortunately it is right up front and partially in the sun, which could present some problems.
Service kind of sucks, but the cashier i dealt with was nice enough. There was no one in the aisle to answer my questions.
Selection was pretty good, plenty of singles to make your own 6 pack of pretty good beer. A few bombers, and plenty of micros and macros in the fridge if that works for you. Mostly a wine and hard liquor store, but so it goes
Highly recommend as long as you have an idea of what you can pay for the beers you are looking for.

Located on Route 1 south, right before the parkway south entrance, kind of a pain to go to if you are coming from the South, Pretty decent singles selection of NY/NJ/PA beers along with a large west coast and new england selection. The cooler is mostly dedicated to macros. Good Belgian and German selection also. They usually are the 1st to get new beers in and the prices are pretty reasonable. Was able to get a bottle of Utopia here for $130 last year. There is a gentleman who works there named Joe, he usually tries to man the beer section and is very informative with any selection or question you may have

Happily when BottleSmart changes over to Joe Canal's the beer selection got better.
Heavy on the wine selection, with some pretty good prices and I was pleasantly surprised by the the beer selection. Good selection of local NJ/NY/PA micros, along with the other usual micro big boys, and good amount of Stone! Lots of Belgians were available as well. Place seems to have a few more breweies each time I stop in. Now they carry Capatin Lawrence, Founder's, and McAuslan (St. Ambroise). A good amount of chilled micros and Belgians, which is nice since the fridge is usually dedicated to the macros.
Super clean and bright, not dusty either and periodic sale prices on older brews. Service is hit or miss, depending on whether or not the beer manager is in, though someone is always on the floor to try and help. Average prices for the beer, with some sales mixed in. Good place to stop if you pass by in your travels and not a bad store for you local spot either.
They hold many wine classes there, but I did attend a Victory tasting that was good.
