Great place with great food and great beer. Beers reasonably priced for their extensive brewing process, barrel aging, or vintage status. Food compliments everything very well. Some of he vintage beers are a little pricey, but where else can you get them? Must visit place in the NW.

Hair of the Dog does make some really good beer. Many people that are on BA know about their hard to find stuff and those of us who are able to hit the place up know how good we have it especially with special events and or great releases from the wood. The place itself is a typical large bar. I find the "tasting" room aspect in the name a bit misleading.
There is no tasting room, at least in the traditional since. I would really like to be able to try almost all of their beers a ounce or two at a time like at wine tasting rooms. However, other than getting something on tap the only way to "taste" anything else is to order off of their "vintage" bottle pages. That list contains beer they have had aging I suppose for years up to a year (the previous years release). I've ordered a few beers on that list over the days however if you do order from it you have to drink it there. They do let you keep the bottle if you like though!
On top of the draft selection and the rotating "from the wood" selection and the "rare" bottles you can also pick up bottles to go. Usually it's their regular stuff however they do release limited stuff for the current year. Also you can pick up swap as well. Now if you are hungry they do have a decent selection of food to order. I've had their mac and cheese and I was impressed. It wasn't the best I've had but it was pretty good. Their deserts are really good to even great. I've enjoyed a lot of the bread puddings I have ordered that's for sure.
If I had any issues with Hair of the Dog it would be the parking and the service. The parking is horrible though I can't fault HotD for that I suppose. Portland has a lot of parking but a lot of no parking signs all along the curb so where you could park.... you can't. I hate it and it has gotten worse over the years.
The service though, I do feel could use some work. Now I'm not a fan of being pampered or anything but compared to many of the other places I frequent if it wasn't for the great "on the wood" stuff and a few of their other beers I think I wouldn't be making it one of the places on my weekly to bi weekly stops. They make sure you have your beers filled and are quick to reload you but where I feel the issue is, is with attitude. Condescending is probably the best way I could describe it. Though not everyone is like that, however it seems like more often than not that's the atmosphere.
So in closing if I was to tell someone hitting Portland for the first time I'd tell them Hair of the Dog would be my top 4 places to hit up. I love the beer at this place and if your lucky you'll be able to get something really special on the rotating "from the wood".

Some of the best beer in PDX and really not that expensive at all. You can stop by and get a hefty 10 % for $4.50. I wish they were open later on weekdays for the after work crowd that likes to linger for a little bit longer. In a cool industrial location near the Portland bridges. I highly recommend this to anyone giving a visit to the area.

I got a flight sampler and a bottled Fred batch 89 to go. No food just good service and a great atmosphere. Went in around 12noon. Sat at the bar and service was amazing, they not only answered all of my questions but did so with ~15 other people, very happy with ,y overall experience and will review the beers individual

We had the taster of 7 different beers. It was ridiculously good. I mean. Just insanity. I don’t know what else to say. Go here. Because it’s f***ing delicious.
It was fun that we actually had met the bartender on a previous trip to Portland at Apex. He remembered us from just sitting next to us. Great service.

I really liked this brewpub. It's big and has a huge garage door that opens to the outside seating. Tables are huge planks of wood and chairs are comfortable. Large bar and there are big salmon flags hanging from the ceiling. They have a large variety of vegan dishes and that always makes me happy. The beer selection was quite good and the food menu provided a wide variety of interesting choices. I had the briskit and it was very tender and tasty. Value was very reasonable.

HOD's taproom is attached to the brewery just over the river from downtown. Easy to get to with plenty of space. Some outdoor picnic tables as well as indoor seating of course. The walls are adorned with HOD clothing for sale. Much of which was sold out or only in limited sizing. I did grab a tulip however which are also for sale.
About eight different beers on tap with one "from the wood" offering. The beers ranged from IPA to strong ale and anywhere in between. They have an amazing bottle list also with some vintages going back several years. These were a bit pricey, but well worth the experience. Service was good both times we were there.
We had the bread and butter and pickled veggie plate and both were amazing if they are your thing. Simple and delicious food that paired great with the beers. Wound up leaving with a case of Fred and three bottles of the Bourbon Fred as both were outstanding beers not available in MN. This is a must stop place when in Portland.

Fourth stop on our walking tour of the SE. Picnic tables outdoors, nice big bar with a/c indoors. Took a couple of seats at the bar and were served ice water before we could even say Hello. Nice.
We decided to order a taster flight which included Lila, Ruth Fred and Adam. We enjoyed all of these beers. If you are researching for a trip here, include this stop. We are huge IPA fans and didn't know if Hotd beers would be for us, but the answer is YES. Followed up with a pint of the Blue Dot IPA. Different, but really good. A nice respite from all of the beer we had had so far on our visit. The service was attentive and friendly.
We bought two bombers of the Blue Dot to share back home, and a nice tulip glass.

One of the stops on my road trip up the West Coast. HOTD has a decent location downtown, with a cool garage door that was open to enjoy the beautiful weather outside. It has lot of open space and nice vibe. Their beer is excellent. I had not drank much of their beer before I went there, but I was very impressed by the range and quality of their offerings. I am now a fan. They had a great selection of current beers and several BA goods (that were pricey, but that's the way it goes). I didn't eat, but the food looked great. The service was very good with knowledgeable waiters.
Great brewery that really surprised me. I look forward to going again some year.

We stopped in here while on our via sit to Portland. It's a bit of a way from the downtown area, but easily walkable. The place itself is a nice little taproom with food and beer. The food looked good but we didn't try any. The beers on offer covered a reasonable selection (about 7 available) but unfortunately they aren't entirely to our taste. If you like hair of the dog it's worth visiting here, but otherwise there's nothing special to warrant a particular visit. Personally, I'm not so keen.
