Poured from a bomber into a snifter. The appearance is a nice cloudy dark orange, but with a minimal amount of head. The aroma has a lot of grapefruit and citrus, very nice. The taste has a good amount of grapefruit, some citrus hops, and some mango. The mouthfeel is dry and oily, with decent carbonation.

A solid IPA from HoTD, but the fact that it is ~ 4-5 months old may have dampened some of the flavors and aroma, but still a good beer.

22 oz bomber labeled "Spring 2013" poured into tulip glass. Love the artwork on the bottle.

Appearance: Thick white head that diminishes to a faint lacing with a ring. Unfiltered, it has a golden colour with some amber hues.

Aroma: Citrus and not a whole lot else, some mild sweetness. As it warms some honey comes through.

Taste: Not as bitter as expected for a double IPA, which I actually appreciate. This really comes across as a well balanced beer, although hoppy it isn't overpowering. The bitterness is manageable and I enjoy it more than similar beers I've tried. Might be less hoppy than some people desire, but this hits the spot in my mind.

Mouthfeel: Good level of carbonation, not overly bubbly or flat. Astringent at first, but clears as you drink, becoming very smooth. The finish is amazingly clean, some slight bitterness but it doesn't leave your mouth dry. It really invites another sip, and with that....

Pretty good looking beer, but a pretty awful head w/ no retention. Hazy golden color.

Big and wonderful smell. Filled the room simply by popping the cap. Mostly big and sweet citrus notes: pineapple, grapefruit, orange, with some warm sweetness. The best description I can think of in the smell is that of an orange cream popsicle :)

A pretty full bodied and tasty brew. It's not exactly what I was expecting, especially in terms of sweetness (it's on the low end), but the beer is very good nonetheless. I taste some orange/grapefruit peel, resiny bitterness, followed by that rich creaminess on the backend. Do I taste some citra or mosaic in there?

Beer is creamy, medium mf, low-medium carb.

I find this beer quite interesting and unique. I get such an interesting hop bouquet from the flavor and absolutely love the smell here. It's actually even improving a bit as it warms. I am very satisfied for my first HofD offereing!

Spring 2013 Bottle poured into a 50W Tulip glass.

A: Pours a light pale-ish yellow body. Very cloudy. Looks like a hefe. Thin, frothy head leaves moderately clingy lacing but settles quickly.

S: Loads of pine jump out of the glass. Definitely some bready, biscuit maltiness backbone, but the citrus hops and pine are what's front and center in the nose.

T: Upfront bitterness that lingers. Pine is present, but takes a little bit of a backseat to the loads of grapefruit rind citrus character. Malty base balances well. A little bit of tangerine and orange juiciness.

M: Prickly. Medium body. A bit boozy - to the point that I was surprised by the low(ish) 7% ABV. Crisp and refreshing.

O: Another solid example of the west coast IPA. The piney and citrus sweetness balanced with malt character and loads of lingering bitterness is money.

22oz bottle poured into a pint glass. spring 2013 release.

pours a pale golden color with a light white head. smell is citrusy and hoppy...though light. its pleasant.

taste -light hoppiness, citrus, piney. slight bitterness on the aftertaste. very enjoyable honestly. i could session this "double ipa." id call it a normal IPA with a good amount of flavor.

mouthfeel is smooth, super easy to drink. high part of this beer 4

overall a very enjoyable IPA. nothing special, but its something great to drink.

Pours a muddy pale/light straw colour. very hazy. almost looks more like a white IPA or hefe. small white head, minimal retention or lacing.

As soon as I opened the bottle, a huge blast of resinous pine hit my nose. super enticing. some chewy malts, but largely those resinous hops. some citrus.

orange/pineapple/citrus hops dominate. solid malt backbone.

the citrus hop bitterness lingers and lingers. aside from that, however, very smoothe and easy.

should have picked this up for earth day. Glad I got it now. Super tasty. get some!

Served from a 22oz bottle into a tulip glass

A- A bit cloudy. Bottle does note to pour slowly due to sediment in bottle. I've never really had a problem with cloudy beers so no big deal. Copper/orangish color, looks like a double IPA should. Perfect amount of head retention.

S-Fresh hops!!! This beer was delivered today so I can only imagine that this is a fresh batch but no bottling date or Julian code on bottle so not too sure. Great Hop aroma, lots of citrus notes of grapefruit and orange. Malt definitely comes through but in a good way hence the "Double".

T-Not overly aggressive in a good way. Hops carry through and taste as good as they smell. Well balanced. Tastes like a 7% beer. Lingering of hops but not too much resin aftertaste. Slight Rye spiciness.

M-Good mouthfeel, malt stays with you all the way to the end, plus some extra. Not too heavy but also not too light. A good interpretation of a Double IPA

O-A very good beer, right on for style. I'm a bit biases being from California (especially from San Diego) we often get some great IPA's made here but Hair of the Dog did a great job.
