on tap, barleys taproom in asheville
cell phone notes
appearance: served in a standard pint, hazy copper-amber body, fluffy white cap
smell: floral hops, chewy caramel, fresh citrus
taste: nice IPA - though pretty sure the menu said it was the english varietal. had kind of an awkward aftertaste - some say metal, but i'm not convinced there wasnt an oyster lost in the tapline. noticeably dry hopped, complimented well by some smooth caramel
mouthfeel: nice -fluffy ipa feel
drinkability: hindered by some bizarre aftertaste

Bought a Growler of this from The Wedge Brewing Co in Asheville, NC for $15 (Growler included). Tapped from one of the Bright Handles w/ "WEDGE" on it into the Growler with Neon Blue Writing on it. Shared w/ CurtisMcArthur and other BA friends from Nashville, TN.
Aroma- A surprisingly strong malty and sweet aroma hits the nose before the hops... Hops are in the background here but not dominant.
Appearance- Pours a 2 finger head that has nice head life. Has a dark orange colored body with semi-haziness. Leaves good lacing behind.
Flavor- Has tons of hop and sweetness from the beginning of the drink. Whew, not at all like the Malt dominant aroma! Stays hoppy throughout the drink and finishes with a medium bitterness level.
Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied, Medium-High Carbonation, Smooth, and finishes with a nice citric flavor.
Overall Impression- A great American IPA minus the aroma. For some reason, the sweetness of the malt came out strong but not in the flavor. Would DEFINITELY recommend this one and if your @ the Wedge, I would suggest drinking others on-tap and then taking this one to go in a Growler (its the only option in Growler anyways). Thanks again for the great brews Wedge Brewing!

Had on draft at the brewery. Golden color with a slight haze. Smells like pale malt and american hops. Decent balance for a AIPA, a fair about of malty sweetness to off set the the piney hops. Moderate to low carbonation. Kinda a heavy moutfeel. Pretty decent.

On tap at the brewery yesterday.
The beer pours a solid amber color with OK head retention and decent lacing. Don't get a lot on the nose, just some light earth and malt. Not very impressed by what I smell, but fortunately this beer tastes better then it smells. The beer has a nice balance of moderate sweetness from the malt, that counters the decent bitterness well in this IPA. It's still ultimately on the hoppy side, and the flavors are attractive with some nice citrus and pine. Unfortunately, along with the bitterness, I got some noticeable alcohol in the finish as well, leading to a fairly hot finish. As I drank this IPA after the incredibly boozy 3rd rail, I took my time with this beer, and had a glass of water. While that helped, undeniably, this beer has some noticeable heat on the finish that detracts a bit from its drinkability. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, but with the beer delivering plenty of flavor.
A nice enough IPA, and God knows it was plenty popular the day I visited, but the noticeable alcoholic heat in the finish would probably have me looking for a different IPA most of the time.

On-tap at the brewery in a shaker pint. Turbid orange brown, no head, ring of sparse lace. Smell: caramel, whiff of grapefruit, mildly spicy, very fruity. Taste: caramel, earthy, grapefruit, mild tropical fruit. Balanced. Drying leafy, sweet finish. Not really an English IPA, but a good NC style IPA.

Tastes a bit like a moldy wooden bucket...too many flavors going on here and none of them are particularly good. Calling this an IPA is also stretching it quite a bit.
Appearance: Deep golden amber, almost orange, cloudy
Smell: Very faint citrus
Taste: Grilled orange, smokey, earthy, weird unidentifiable funk
Mouthfeel: Smooth enough
Drinkability: Sippable if you prefer the strange and the experimental. This seems to be a trend from the Asheville Breweries.
