Was @ the 3rd anniversary. Got a few beer coolies. tried the stuff that was aged in a whiskey barrel was nearly undrinkable it was so bad. Needless to say I have no reason to ever go back the beer is just not worth it.
I been 18 times now, the last 9 to drink 1 pint (well its not really a pint) and get the growler refilled. While I like this tiny bar how OTHERS can give it a 4.5 in vibe, well lets just say they aint much room to a 5, and if this place is a 4.5 well I eat my BA shirt. Too many folks need to travel and see better places, while i am all for boosting j-ville, overrating places does NOT ONE any good.
They used to give free samples. Now you have to promise to buy 1 beer to get a "free" sampler, still its not bad deal.
The growler refilling well lets just say it depends on WHO refills it. Most of the growlers have stayed fresh for about 2 days after that it goes downhill fast. I think the best beers are the porter and the red and old ales.
The IPA is not my thing, and some of the new wheat beers are good. its local and fresh so try it yourself.
Service is funny, they can have 5 folks working there and if their talking you have to wait, otherwise its fast, but the place is tiny. The fun part is when the trains go by, as the tracks are like 40 feet away. Most times service is great, I mean its small you can just say i want another beer and they hear yea, unless a train rolls by.
You can now get kegs there now, and they have like 9+ beers now. They are fresh and tasty, nothing outstanding but fairly good stuff. sadly the porter just ran out. oh its seasonal now oh well.
Anyway Growlers are 20 and 25 if you don't have the 1 gallon bottle yet, the refills are 10 and 15 dollars. So that is a good deal.
Its just a small tap room ran by the mother of the brewer and their friends, tbh they don't really know much about beer(the brewer does, just not the rest), but they are nice folks and they are learning.
They give free tours, of course its a warehouse with a tap room, so not really much to see.
They do have food on weekends you can buy from someone that makes it outside, its just like Orlando brewing that way, but sadly parking and seating are not as good.
The bar and bar seats really suck as its poorly designed and you hit your knees constantly ON ROCK, the tables are better.
Not much to do or see in there so we usually only have 1 or 2 and get the growler and go. Recommend if you live close by, if not its not really worth traveling 100's of miles to get to YET....
They talking about a few casks soon, so who knows.
Enjoy. I always go wearing my black BA beer geek shirt so If you see me say hello.
Current prices: Unless prices have changed it was $3.50 for the small beers (12 to 14oz), and $5.50 (22oz)for the large beers.
some of the pints are 5 dollars as they are for some charity thing.

Recently, I attended a function at the Bold City Brewery with friends and found it to be mildly uncomfortable with excessive heat and no fans to be in for a long time. I was grateful to find its tap room and its welcoming spirit to be a good vacation from the main body of the venue.
The air-conditioned tap room featured the Bold City line up (only) and there were a few beers not on the regular menu that piqued my interest in trying everything they had to serve. While the Bold City beers were very accessible, I found the standouts of the Duke's Brown and the Killer Whale Cream Ale were pretty much the same ones I could reach for in any local bar to Jacksonville and
St. Augustine. The rest of the beers I sampled tasted as if they were mild impressions of what the brewmaster really wanted to accomplish.
I hope to return in the future to see other events and more of this brewery's work.

Bold City Brewery holds a very special place in my heart because it was the first microbrewery that I regularly went to when I was living in Jacksonville, FL. They are located in an industrial area with a lot of warehouses around it. Not exactly the best part of town either, thankfully by the time that I started to go there they were popular enough to draw a crowd, making it feel like it wasn't in one of the worst parts of Jacksonville.
The brewery is in the warehouse and they did something that I really appreciated, they made a classy tasting room. They basically built a small room inside of the warehouse and turned it into the tasting room. They put up wood panelling and made it feel really nice!
They have a good assortment of beers and when I was there, they would always have something different either on keg or cask that would come out on the weekends. The food there at that time was buy a company called "Jolly Man". It was a pretty good food truck, not sure if it's still the same company running the food there.
The folks who run this place are all down to earth and are very nice. It's a family owned and operated place, something that is a nice touch in the world of corporate breweries that we live in.
I haven't been back there in about 3 years or so, I'm hoping that they are still doing well and will make sure to stop by when I am next in Jacksonville!

You have to give Brian and Susan a ton of credit for opening a brewery in Jacksonville. With out Bold City who knows how long it would be until the current lineup of craft breweries in Jax would have formed.
Bold City is more of the package brewery than a brewpub. Not many seasonals beers or specials. The beers they do make well and you know what you are getting yourself into. I have a few of my favorites but ill leave those reviews in the beer section.
The food isn't really a part of BC but it's a solid selection of BBQ and grilled items.

Bold City is a good place to grab a beer with a decent selection. I admit I have perhaps only been here 7-8 times, I will say I do not notice many seasonals or new beers showing up. That being said, I have a few favorites that I enjoy including the 1901 Ale which is probably my favorite. I tried the food once and it was very good. The air-conditioned / heated portion is very small but with the right weather, it is enjoyable. I look forward to returning many times in the future. The service is usually very good and the staff seem to be personable.

I had a blast visiting the brewery. My only complaint is that it is a little tough to spot if you are not entirely sure what you are looking for, or if you don't have a GPS. That being said, time to sing some praises. First, and arguably most impressive to me, you get your first sampler for free. First time I have seen that offered, and I was very impressed by that. The place has a grill-to-order for burgers and such if you want to eat, and you can eat outside at some tables they set up or bring it in to the tasting room. In the tasting room, they have a bookcase full of old-school board games to play while you hang out. I was there with my sister, and we played Connect 4 while we drank. Nothing better than brews and children's games! The staff was very informative and very courteous. Ever helpful with any service and questions we may have/need. They have beer to go, and all beers are available in a growler except the specialty tap. Good selection of beers and beer styles. The prices were reasonable, and I will be going back to visit this little gem!

Bold city will always hold a warm place in my heart as it was the George Washington of microbreweries in Jacksonville. It led the revolution against shitty beer selection. Other quality establishments have followed suit, but Bold City fired the opening shot against the tyranny of being in a big city with no good beer. Okay, Bold City has cozy tap room, but its small size limits the amount of people who can sit inside. They have an assortment of board games that help pass the time, but only one tv, and never show sporting events. They allow you to sit outside or in the warehouse, but this is Florida and we its hot and has mosquitos. :( They have a great selection of year round beers, all of which I enjoy. They also have good seasonals. "Jolly Man" prepares food in the warehouse from a limited menu. They offer a veggie burger which is average, but, at least, they have one. Oh, and they really need mayo! lol The service is friendly, but sometimes lacks attentiveness. But I definitely like the place, and would reccomend visiting it.
