Recently, I attended a function at the Bold City Brewery with friends and found it to be mildly uncomfortable with excessive heat and no fans to be in for a long time. I was grateful to find its tap room and its welcoming spirit to be a good vacation from the main body of the venue.
The air-conditioned tap room featured the Bold City line up (only) and there were a few beers not on the regular menu that piqued my interest in trying everything they had to serve. While the Bold City beers were very accessible, I found the standouts of the Duke's Brown and the Killer Whale Cream Ale were pretty much the same ones I could reach for in any local bar to Jacksonville and
St. Augustine. The rest of the beers I sampled tasted as if they were mild impressions of what the brewmaster really wanted to accomplish.
I hope to return in the future to see other events and more of this brewery's work.

Bold City Brewery holds a very special place in my heart because it was the first microbrewery that I regularly went to when I was living in Jacksonville, FL. They are located in an industrial area with a lot of warehouses around it. Not exactly the best part of town either, thankfully by the time that I started to go there they were popular enough to draw a crowd, making it feel like it wasn't in one of the worst parts of Jacksonville.
The brewery is in the warehouse and they did something that I really appreciated, they made a classy tasting room. They basically built a small room inside of the warehouse and turned it into the tasting room. They put up wood panelling and made it feel really nice!
They have a good assortment of beers and when I was there, they would always have something different either on keg or cask that would come out on the weekends. The food there at that time was buy a company called "Jolly Man". It was a pretty good food truck, not sure if it's still the same company running the food there.
The folks who run this place are all down to earth and are very nice. It's a family owned and operated place, something that is a nice touch in the world of corporate breweries that we live in.
I haven't been back there in about 3 years or so, I'm hoping that they are still doing well and will make sure to stop by when I am next in Jacksonville!

You have to give Brian and Susan a ton of credit for opening a brewery in Jacksonville. With out Bold City who knows how long it would be until the current lineup of craft breweries in Jax would have formed.
Bold City is more of the package brewery than a brewpub. Not many seasonals beers or specials. The beers they do make well and you know what you are getting yourself into. I have a few of my favorites but ill leave those reviews in the beer section.
The food isn't really a part of BC but it's a solid selection of BBQ and grilled items.

Bold City is a good place to grab a beer with a decent selection. I admit I have perhaps only been here 7-8 times, I will say I do not notice many seasonals or new beers showing up. That being said, I have a few favorites that I enjoy including the 1901 Ale which is probably my favorite. I tried the food once and it was very good. The air-conditioned / heated portion is very small but with the right weather, it is enjoyable. I look forward to returning many times in the future. The service is usually very good and the staff seem to be personable.

I had a blast visiting the brewery. My only complaint is that it is a little tough to spot if you are not entirely sure what you are looking for, or if you don't have a GPS. That being said, time to sing some praises. First, and arguably most impressive to me, you get your first sampler for free. First time I have seen that offered, and I was very impressed by that. The place has a grill-to-order for burgers and such if you want to eat, and you can eat outside at some tables they set up or bring it in to the tasting room. In the tasting room, they have a bookcase full of old-school board games to play while you hang out. I was there with my sister, and we played Connect 4 while we drank. Nothing better than brews and children's games! The staff was very informative and very courteous. Ever helpful with any service and questions we may have/need. They have beer to go, and all beers are available in a growler except the specialty tap. Good selection of beers and beer styles. The prices were reasonable, and I will be going back to visit this little gem!

Bold city will always hold a warm place in my heart as it was the George Washington of microbreweries in Jacksonville. It led the revolution against shitty beer selection. Other quality establishments have followed suit, but Bold City fired the opening shot against the tyranny of being in a big city with no good beer. Okay, Bold City has cozy tap room, but its small size limits the amount of people who can sit inside. They have an assortment of board games that help pass the time, but only one tv, and never show sporting events. They allow you to sit outside or in the warehouse, but this is Florida and we its hot and has mosquitos. :( They have a great selection of year round beers, all of which I enjoy. They also have good seasonals. "Jolly Man" prepares food in the warehouse from a limited menu. They offer a veggie burger which is average, but, at least, they have one. Oh, and they really need mayo! lol The service is friendly, but sometimes lacks attentiveness. But I definitely like the place, and would reccomend visiting it.

Atmosphere - Driving up to this place was like driving up to a storage unit with businesses running out of them. I was surprised with the amount of space they had for the brewery however the tap room is small. With about twenty people in the room it felt pretty crowded.
Quality/Selection - They only serve their beers and during my visit they had seven brews on tap. All of their beers that I tasted were pretty good.
Service - With the place being as small as it is and them having five people behind the bar there was always somebody looking to keep my glass full.
Overall this is a decent place to stop by and grab some beers and hang out with friends for a bit.

Mad Manatee IPA .... Yes Jacksonville has a neighborhood brewery. Away from the trendy turned up polo shirts and dockers this place has a solid local following .. Mad Manatee IPA ... they do insist you try their beers available, because "they want you to order something you like", an excellent idea ... my choice ... Mad Manatee, i dont know what nights are special but they break out the BBQ grill and cook burgers, brats, and wings with all the trimmings for cheap. This is a solid brewery with rumors of breaking into another ... try the Mad Manatee IPA and tell them Pete sent ya.

I've been going to Bold City for just about 2 years now...since they open. As a matter of fact, I was there for the invitation-only pre-opening party. Finally!!! A real brewery in Jacksonville. My hats off to the Miller's for stepping out and accomplishing this feat - and not only accomplishing it, but knocking it out of the park. I've taken so many friends there and everyone loves it! The ambiance of the tasting room is quaint and cozy...and if we were in FL, you expect a fireplace in the corner. They've done a great job to make you forget you are sitting in the corner of a warehouse. Brian and Susan are amazing people and great to sit and talk to about beer! Tours are available on Saturday's officially, but if you get to talking to them, they will show you around anytime! The beers that Brian and Cody turn out are awesome! Great ingredients and fresh. A larger brewhouse is going in now so they will be able to keep up with the demand - brewing 6 days a week, and still not keeping up, is a good problem to have and is a sign of just how good this beer is. Cheers to the Millers! Keep up the good work!!!

Bold City Brewery. A REAL BREWERY in Jacksonville Florida? Yes and it took me a year and a half to find and sample the craft beer that are distributed to the area without me even knowing? Yes! BCB is a place that you drive by and say " Wait... I think thats it!" Back up and pull in.
My overall feeling when I walk in is "yes you found us and hey have a free sampler of all we haver to offer". I loved this exclusive feel I got when me and my friend walked in. A massive amount of "old school games" like connect four, Jenga, cards and other fun ass drunk games are readily available for your enjoyment.
Service was kinda so-so with the fact I had no idea what to do when I walked in but then found wonderful waitresses to do the explaining.
Selection was decent but to my experience of beer the brews were simple and had nothing out of the ordinary to make the beer defferent. All and all they had a craft feel and this is all that matters when opening a joint like this. Had a Lager, two IPAS, one brown, one red and a few others.
Good place to suprise a friend who knows nothing about craft beer, and thats what i did and purchased a Growler of Mad IPA.
