Big coffee flavors dominate early only to be wiped out by an enormous about of Willamette hop flavors. One of GPBC’s most requested beers. Complex and full of flavor yet amazingly sessionable. Brewed with coffee from Primavera Coffee Roasters here in Birmingham, AL.

No flaws, the flavor profile was perfect. The overall taste seemed to improve throughout the glass. Some aroma was lacking. It belongs near the top of the southern 50. The color and cascading was excellent with a rich head. The malt taste was not overalls complicated either. It finished dry but still had a hint of velvet mouthfeel.

Wow. Amazing beer.
A: Dark - very dark. Chocolatey head that dissipates slowly.
S: Smells of hops and coffee. Amazing smell.
T: Deep, dark, and delicious. Coffee shines through, with a huge hop finish. Very hoppy, but no obtrusively so.
M: Chewy and very nice.
O: Another great beer from a great brewery. I've not tried anything from them that wasn't awesome.

On-tap in the brewery.
A: Looks pitch black unless parked next to an imperial (like GP's Fatso RIS). The creamy, almond-colored head stays throughout with excellent lacing.
S: The coffee blend leaps to the front here. Still plenty of cocoa to go with the coffee, as well as simple roasted malt; the balance rivals the best breakfast stouts.
T: The coffee and malt blend stays present at the front, but the beer is not overly sweet. The bitter hop sweep at the back end clears the palate and leaves you wanting more.
M: Full-bodied and rich, but nothing close to an imperial.
O: My favorite of GP's many great beers.

Had it on tap at Good People's taproom.
Coffee dark, just a few hints of red, not quite pure black. Nice, fluffy caramel-colored head, about 2 inches. Pretty good retention.
Huge aroma of coffee, with subtle hints of cocoa and vanilla. Great smell. Just like a delicious cup of coffee brewing in the morning.
Coffee flavor isn't quite as overpowering in the flavor, but definitely still the frontrunner. The cocoa from the nose is much more prevalent, as well as the roasty notes from the malts, with just a hint of hoppy goodness.
The oatmeal helps make this stout rich and creamy and smooth.
Overall, I could see this beer being perfect on a cold, rainy day, but was pretty tasty even in the hot Alabama summer.

Smell was predominately of cold coffee with roasted malts. Not a surprise to anybody considering the name, I suppose.
Pours midnight black with a small, dark brown head. Lacing isn't too substantial.
Taste is full of cold espresso and roasted notes...although other than that I don't much more of anything. I'd struggle to say this is an oatmeal stout if I didn't already know that it was. There is a hop character on the finish, with a decent bitterness closing the beer out, which wasn't a surprise given the description above. Mouthfeel seemed rather thin for style.
All in all I thought it was fine but perhaps I didn't think as highly of it as most seem to.
