22oz bottle, no bottle date, poured into tulip
A- pours a clear deep amber color with a creamy 4-finger head that retains long after the pour, eventually settling down to a small foamy layer floating on top, leaving a bit of lace behind
S- lots of bready malt aroma up front, similar to a malty amber ale. Having trouble picking out any pumpkin spicing, but there is a bit of a vegetal sweetness to it, also picking up a bit of metal
T- sweet and malty base with some of the spicing coming through, but subtle; a hint of cinnamon & nutmeg. Earthy flavors kick in with some roasted pumpkin, leading to a a fruity and malty finish
M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a creamy and chewy mouthfeel that continues into the finish
O- subtle in the pumpkin spicing, but a big malty base makes this one super drinkable

Definitely one of the better Pumpkin beers that I have had, which is definitely not one of my favorite styles. At the brewery they give the option of having a maple syrup, cinnamon rim on the glass which is a nice touch. My complaint about pumpkin beers is alot of times I feel the breweries are attempting to make these taste like a pumpkin pie, which usually results in a very sweet beer. Superstition is not overly sweet, great spiced-ale taste.

22oz bottle with my Barrelhouse Brewco snifter glass
Notes taken from 12/20/2014
A: Dark amber body with a russet type look. Has some brownish orange tints running through with just a dash of cloudiness to it. Otherwise fairly clear and nice looking. Smallish ivory white foam cap that settles into a crown after a few moments. Light dotting work but not much stick noted.
S: Smells of date sugar syrup, pumpkin pie, clove, ginger, and cinnamon. I get some baked bready pie crust there as well. Really nice pumpkin pie likeness to this one. Has a fruity syrup likeness or honey sweetness if you will.
T: Sugary pumpkin with pie spice and a nice crusted honey bread element to it. Pumpkin is a bit more subdued here and playing nicely with all the other components. Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and ginger spices are all present yet subtle enough as to not over spice the brew. Low actual perceived bitterness to this one and no alcohol to really report here. This is quite good and pretty spot on in the flavors. Pumpkin is only slightly vegetal which I like.
M: Moderate filling body on account of it being more of a sweetened ale. Slight syrupy feel with a nice cream like consistency. Touch of dryness in the finish with a semi sticky feel.
D: Black Market should be proud. They did a nice job with this one. Seems they took care and precaution to keep good balance and not overdo any of the add on flavors. Keeping up with enough malt sweetness to make you think of homemade pie. Definitely one to check out or add to your Holiday tasting lineup.

I've only tried a few pumpkin ales but this is the best tasting one by far. It tastes similar to the Shipyard pumpkin ale but with a heavier taste and feel and not an overwhelming pumpkin taste. Overall a very nice blend of spices, I highly recommend this one.

This is about as good as it gets for Pumpkin beer. Rich but not sweet, a whiff of spice but more roasted squash. Even a touch of hops for a bitterish finish. Really appealing pumpkin flavor and something like butternet squash.
Attractive dark orangey amber color with ample suds in the Petrus goblet. Pleasantly spritzy and a little tangy. Rich, flavorful brew with just a hint of pie. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Barons Market in San Diego.
