On-tap at Bootlegger's,

A: Pours a medium to dark amber with a moderate off-white head, solid retention.

S: Crystal malt, nice and fruity, not too fragrant though.

T: Tastes pretty much like an amber ale with a light hop bitterness. Malt heavy. The minerality and lager smoothness that I've found in Dusseldorf really isn't there. Average flavour.

M: Medium-bodied, average smoothness, crisp.

D: Innocuous little amber beer. Drinkable, but Bootlegger's makes a ton of better stuff.

On-tap at Bootlegger's

A: The pour is an amber-copper sort of color with a thin off-white head.

S: A sweet, malty nose with a touch of spicy hops and a distinct fruity note. Some light floral and sweet citrus hop aromas.

T: Sweet fruits and malts up front which are the main flavor components. There are some nice bread notes and a flavor that I usually associate with rye. A sort of lager yeast character too, that comes out of nowhere.

M: The body is medium with a medium level of carbonation.

D: I'm not sure exactly what to make of this. I suppose i haven't had a ton of Alts, so it's still sort of an unfamiliar style to me. I liked it, but didn't love it.

App- Nice auburn color w/ orange hue. Little head but present.

Ar-Caramel, sweet fruit notes, a bit of "pecan".

T- WOW! asian pear, apple, apricot, sweet malt.

Mf- was smooth, crisp and all around enjoyable.

Pours orange/amber with a quickly vanishing head.

The smell is of sourish cherries, caramel and bready yeast.

The taste is of caramel, some sour cherries - cherry-pie-ish because of a toasty breadiness. There are some grassy notes. Not an "alt" as I've ever had, though it is "interesting". It has a sweetish/tartish finish.

It's a bit watery with an alcohol dryness. It claims to be "medium-bodied" but is thin/light bodied.

Not very good, but interesting. I ordered this over the I-net (my first I-Net purchase - a reputable seller), but there is no freshness date on it, so tough to say how fresh it was. Something sourishly "off" about it.

Thanks to jcwattsrugger for hauling it up from his house in Florida, where I had to send it since they couldn't ship to New Jersey.

22 ounce bottle from Town and Counry Liquor in Fullerton, onto the beer:

Poured into a boot, the head is compact on this orangish amber colored brew. I was expecting a bigger body out of this brew, but this has good session beer written all over it. Mild levels of malt, with a bit of hop leaf. There are notes of grape and toasted dark bread. That dries into bread crust and vague clove. Hmmm...I would drink this again. It's nice to see a new microbrewery in my home of Orange County make this uncommon German style of beer.

A 22oz bottle poured into a large glass reveling a foamy off white head with a sparkling sweet aroma. The tall head sits atop a caramel amber body that gleams goodness. The aroma has a unique complex malt character that stands out but doesn't over power the nose or the palette. Toasted caramel and a hoppy citrus flavor occupy the taste buds on the tongue while the mild sweetness transitions to a flavorful dry finish. This is to easy to drink for something that is so complex and flavorful.
