What a find!! I was driving through the back woods of southern Belgium and I ended up in La Roche-en-Ardenne. After parking my car and walking back over the bridge, I spied a number of beers signs hanging out on the front of this moderate-sized brasserie overlooking the river than runs through town, and decided that I was suddenly both hungry and thirsty.

Excellent service!! Good selection of local beers on tap, and a large number of bottled brands.

I suggest the Scampi with a local Chouffe... EXCELLENT!!!

When it came time to pay, I discovered that they didn't accept VISA cards issued by U.S. banks (not sure why, as they had a VISA decal on the window - but then again, with our banks in their current state...). But, no problem. They pointed me to a La Poste bank that was about 100 meters away, and without collateral, I was able to walk down the street, withdraw some Euro at a favorable exchange rate from the ATM, and walk back and pay my tab. Try doing THAT in the U.S.!! :)

A great find in La Roche - situated down the road some from Fantome & very close to Chouffe. Definitely the local in town, and packed both times we visited - kids and dogs more than welcome. Decent tap selection with all the expected regional beer in good form. Food was good, and I only wish the majority of bars/pubs in Canada would have a selection like this. Prompt/brisk service that we found to be the norm and very much appreciated - however many in North America would find it abrupt. Nice location on the banks of a river flowing through town - great patio.

Side note: Just down the street, same side there's an outstanding beer store. The only place I found in all of Belgium that had a huge variety of saisons and many bottles from Fantome. Worth the stop.
