I don't really have much to add other than that after 4 trips to New Glarus I can say that this is the best and probably only place you really need to go other then the brewery. They will usually have a more comprehensive selection on tap than the brewery and the food is solid.

The service has been top notch, the food has been great (I've ordered from the menu and I've had specials), and they have just about any New Glarus beer that you can get at a given time. The pizza place down the street is great for a beer but the pizza is lackluster. Even though this is a bit pricier, you wont leave disappointed.

This place is the shit. Been here twice so far and they have more NG on tap than the brewery! The food here is to die for especially the cheese curds, oh god the cheese curds. If youre in New Glarus and don't hit this place you have truly missed out

The bartender really knows his stuff and they have 20+ new glarus vintage bottles. We went in at a slow time and they showed us around back where they have their slow cooker with some ribs going. True class at this place

Cant wait to be back!

Cheers
Peter

Visited the Glarner Stube for dinner and beers in April 2011.
First, they have probably the best on-tap NG selection in existence. Had current offerings, unpluggeds (had Abt, Smoked Rye and Apple Ale all on tap), and things that haven't been available for months. Service was very good, food was very good. However, the only down side was the price. Food was around $20/plate, which isn't awful, but is more than I usually spend on a normal dinner. Atmosphere was really neat as well...all wood, a little dark...it kind of makes you imagine what a swiss restaurant was like 70 years ago.

Ahhh, The Glarner Stube translated to "The Living Room of New Glarus".

Had a massive, tasty and VERY filling lunchtime Sunday meal here with my three traveling companions after we did a quick tour of NGBC.

Anywhere bold enough to claim the Midwest's largest urinal desrves a look see in my book!

Built inside like a traditional Swiss chalet with the bar in the front room and a small, cozy dining area in the back. Wood, old photos and knick-knacks everywhere.

There are ten taps and ALL of them New Glarus beers! This is the NGBC de facto tap house. I heard/saw they have some bottled selections but really...who cares?

Our service on this gloriusly cool day was efficient, friendly and spot on. I really could not have asked for more.

Now for the highlight of the experience, the food! Traditional Swiss/Wisconsinite cuisine featuring a vast array of Swiss/German/Wisconsin dishes such as sauer brauten (what I had), fondue, schnitzel, wursts, Schublig, pastetli, and the most decadent dish of all dish of all, Roesti! Roesti is a shredded and fried potatoe dish and here it is inundated with TONS of grated Swiss cheese, YUM!

A wonderful place that deserves to be listed on the MUST things to do list if in the area to chek out NGBC. A true Midwest classic! They must be doing something right....it has been open since 1901....hard to argue IMHO!

Visited on 11/29/2008.

My wife and I stopped in here for a a late lunch based on the recommendation of an employee at the New Glarus Brewery. Not expecting too much, we were blown away by this place!

Upon entering, we found that this is a narrow and deep building with the bar area in the front and the main dining area in the rear. Smoking was sort of contained in the bar area and there was no smoking alowed in the back.

Decor was comfortable...wood paneled with lots of kitchey stuff hanging on the walls. The wait staff all wore New Glarus brewing t-shirts as their uniform and the water glasses on each table were New Glarus Brewing shaker pint glasses.

The menu boasted that Glarner Stube has the greatest number of New Glarus beers on tap anywhere in the world outside of the brewery itself. They had about 8-10 selections when I was there.

The food was very inexpensive and incredibly good. My wife had the pork schnitzel and I had a prime rib sandwich. Both were great (far exceeding our expectations) and they were just $7.99 each.

When I go back to New Glarus, I will definitely be visiting this place again. Highly recommended!

What a great place. This is a must stop for anyone heading to the New Glarus brewery. Great decor that seems traditional enough. Nice old world feel. Quality of beers seemed very good off all we tried. I don't know if they are getting direct shipments from the brewery or not, but it's fresh enough that it would seem to be the case. Service was good. Attentive staff. Selection? Well, it's New Glarus, WI, so expect 8 taps of all New Glarus. Pretty horrid, isn't it? Food was quite good as well. Swiss themed (as is the entire place and town.) Like I said. You have to stop here if in New Glarus.

P.S. This place seems quite popular with the locals. Get there early.

If you are headed to New Glarus to visit the brewery then this place is a must stop, it has a great vibe and is a lot of fun.

The all wood interior has a Swiss "yesteryear" feel to it and is very charming with its décor without being pretentious or corny.
It opens up to an old wooden bar with a small nook by the window on the left, shinning in the days light on a few patrons sharing a pint. Walking straight through a second room opens to tables and booths.

There were 8 New Glarus taps available and since the brewery only has a tasting room, this is the place in town to stop and continue your sampling. NGBC will actually give you coupons for a free beer here if you go on the New Glarus brewery tour beforehand. I had the edel pils, uff da bock, road slush and fat squirrel brown. All were served well. The bock is a must try.

The food menu is Swiss American consisting of schnitzel, brat sandwich, different veal dishes and some very unique potato dishes. I had the schnitzel. The veal was breaded in a flaky crunchy crust, cut thinly with outstanding mashed potatoes. I thought the food was very good, but had somewhat wished I had not ate it on a hot July day. The service was outstanding. Attentive, charming, and courteous.

And of course the men's urinal was nothing short of monolithic. It could be used as a bomb shelter. Absolutely gigantic.

All factors combined I will definitely be headed back.

Friends and I stopped there after a visit to the New Glarus Brewery on a road trip. We had coupons for a free 8 oz. beer to use from the brewery as well. Service was prompt and very good. They had 8 New Glarus beers on tap, including the IPA, Spotted Cow, and fat Squirrel to name a few. The nice thing was being able to sample the local beer only on tap. The other locations had others as well. I was able to enjoy the IPA and the Uff-da (Bock) on tap at this location.

I ordered the Reuben was was very good. We were treated very well and we felt like regulars.

In terms of local establishments for beer and food, this would rank high on my list for New Glarus. I would highly recommend it as a follow up to the brewery.

First of all, the urinal's not that big.

Secondly, wow what a nice little joint this is. New Glarus is like a German Galena (or a more obviously modern Amana). There's lots of little hut-looking joints that serve food and alcohol. Kind of shame that there's only one proper beer bar so close to a worldclass brewery, but whatever.

This atmosphere is that of an authentic facsimile. That is, an earnest replica, not so much trying to precisely duplicate the bierstubes of the motherland as it is just trying to be itself. They don't make the waitresses wear lederhosen and they don't play polka music.

New Glarus was all we saw on tap, and great goodness did they have a lot of New Glarus on tap! If you want it and NG kegs it, you can get it.

Food was good pub fare. Service was friendly and knew plenty about the beers. Crowd a had good vibe. Overall an excellent stop if you're going to visit the brewery.

Atmosphere - The Glarner Stube offers men the unique and perhaps life altering experience of urinating in the Midwest's largest urinal. This alone warrants at least a 4 for atmosphere, but Glarner Stube has even more going for it - it's built like a traditional Swiss lodge, nearly everyone serving you is Swiss-American, and the food is very traditional. The Stube is also a local favorite in a small town so if you go in the afternoon you can drink edel-pils tappers and shoot dice with wonderfully drunk old codgers all day long. Deb Carrey has been known to throw one or two back here as well.

Selection/Quality - Ten taps, ten New Glarus beers on tap. The Glarner Stube might as well change its name to the Glarner Stube Restaurant and New Glarus Tied House. About 25 bottles are offered including any New Glarus beers that they don't have on tap and a few German bocks and Hefes. Reminds me of all the old European cafes that have remained loyal to one brand of brew for hundreds of years or more.

Service - Excellent. Friendly and folksy, prompt, and helpful.

Food - Swiss/Wisconsinite cuisine featuring schnitzel, geschnetzeltes, fondue, veal chops, pastetli, and my favorite Swiss dish of all, Roestti potatoes. Of course there is a popular Friday Fish Fry too. This may be America's "Little Switzerland," but it's still in Wisconsin.

A trip to New Glarus is not complete without a stop either here or at the nearby New Glarus Hotel. I've slightly preferred the Glarner Stube since I was a kid but nowadays the beer puts it far and away the best place in town. Don't miss out on the experience, food, and beer.
