JohnW ( Sutton Coldfield, United Kingdom (England) )B- / 3.45look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | drink: 4 rDev: +9.3%Had this beer both on tap ('tocina') and in bottles ('boca') while in Croatia on vacation. In both forms we enjoyed it, probably the best beer on tap in the area we were staying in, though it hardly matches the best of the German lager and pilsner style beers! Pale gold, perfectly clear, light head of foam that quickly dissipates. Grassy slightly sweet aroma, taste is clean and light in texture and more sweetness in the taste at first than of hops. It got the impression that in the bottle it is slightly drier in taste and more carbonated than on tap. I thought this a decent beer (if nothing special) and certainly does not have that awful metalic acid taste of many nasty cheap Euro-lagers, and we enjoyed it - especially in the warm weather enjoying the sun day and evening! Very easy to drink and cheap price in the back street bars - HRK15 or around $3 a half litre (Sept 2009) Far preferable to the "Bavarian" beer imported from Holland that many of the bars serve along the Istrian Peninsular of Croatia! That really is bad and to be avoided. JohnW B'ham UK Sept 2009 Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-08-2009 08:05:56 | id: 1011976

Lots of gold and red stuff going on all over the labeling, reminiscent of NASCAR finery. This beer pours a clear medium golden hue, with a few fingers of soapy white head, which leaves a small ring of lace as it quickly recedes. It smells of sour bread and grassy/weedy hops. The taste is soft white grain, some breadiness, and mild acrid grassy hops. The carbonation is a bit below average, the body medium, and almost crisp, and it finishes dry, soft, with practically no aftertaste. This is much better than the average Eastern Euro-lager in my experience. Not too much going on flavour-wise, but nothing off-putting either. Most favourite indeed. RyanBelle ( Windsor, Ontario )D- / 1.9look: 2 | smell: 2 | taste: 2 | feel: 2 | drink: 1 rDev: -64.7%I did not like this beer one bit. I understand that Eastern-Euro Lagers can tend to be on the skunkier side however I forgot about all that and opened up this can. It was very sweet and fruity in taste but not in the way that would make me model it after say an apple or a grapefruit. I tend to think it was more of a rotting fruit flavor, totally unacceptable for a beer at this price point/type. I've had countless Eastern Euro-Lagers that trump this tenfold, and for cheaper. The head was foamy (1 inch) and lacked retention...nothing to write home about. The smell was skunky but I looked past that until I got to the taste, which was quite horrid. I do not recommend this beer. Skip this one. Serving type: can Reviewed on: 08-29-2009 04:40:10 | id: 985321

Fresh and decent hop flavor upfront. Has a slight sweet adjunct macro taste similar to a typical American or Portuguese lager such as Sagres. Fades to a decent clean mouthfeel and finishes with a decent crisp and hoppy lager type finish. Nice can but just an average beer that would probably be enjoyed more if I drank it while sunning on the Dalmatian coast. Serving type: can Reviewed on: 08-16-2009 10:02:09 | id: 976756

The beer itself is ok, enough hops to make it interesting, no off flavours and a decent finish. I would probably buy this again as it is only $2 a large can. Very grainy. Bleh. Certainly better than say Boxer, but not even close to Kokanee or Canadian. Grainy, with a bad metallic aftertaste that clings like a burr to my dog's fur. Someone in Croatia will be laughing when they see I paid over $5.00 for a can of this swill. Serving type: can Reviewed on: 03-23-2009 02:57:09 | id: 877176

Two finger foamy white head that settles steadily and leaves lacing. Very grassy/grainy aroma, with a dose of spicy hop aroma. Sweetness immediately hits the front of the tongue, corn like, but not overly sweet. Middle is dry and grain shows itself. Finish has a flash of citrus. Not bad, pretty clean. Feels like it is just a bit overboard on the adjunct side of things. Light and fizzy body, but not to the point of being watery. Does seem to leave a little bit of a stickiness to the tongue. Not bad, not great, pretty much what one expects when they hear Euro Pale Lager. A little less stickiness and sweetness would probably improve this one.
