I love this place! I stop in there about once a week and pick up a different assortment of German beer to have for the week. They also have a great selection of imported German foods, treats, coffees, even some current German magazines and CD's.
There is also a little cafe with some great food and some great Beers on tap.
The bottled beer selection is amazing, over 75 different german beers, thats what they say, but I think there might be even more.
Its a family run business and the staff is really helpful/informative and always talkative. One of my favorite things to do every week is make my way into this place and chat with the owner about the beers I tried the week prior.
I cant say enough about this place. I love it!
EDIT: This place is even better now that the beer garden is up and running. Great great beer bar. Just a nice spot to hang out and relax, have a few beers. Couldnt be more perfect. Best place on the peninsula

Where to start, I love Gourmet Haus. It has been my favorite local bar for quite a while. Volker and Maryann the owners, are incredible people. They're always are going out of the way for their customers, and it shows. Between Volker, and Chris, they always have a bunch of great beer to choose from. You never need to worry about having the same beer they serve everywhere else. The food is fantastic, and very well priced. Try the special, you wont be disappointed. If you're ever in the area, it's an absolute must.

Why is it that every time I have a transcendent experience with german beer, I brown out and forget the most intense moment. I'd give you some sad stories about throwing pizza at my girlfriend and getting caught by local authorities wizzing on a moving train, but I can't recall these experiences from my own memory.
It's not my fault that the beer here is so damn great. I know Germany has a bad history of claiming superiority, but they would have a real argument if they said their beer is the best. Haus staudt provides all the best on-tap offerings from deutchland to the U.S. It is obvious that the folks who run this wonderful biergarten have a passion for good beer.
The food is good too!

I was doing a job in the area and had a craving for German, this place came up on a search so I went. Now I come here at least once a week to see what is on tap. The rotating selection of German beers is great, and the bottle selection in the store is enough to have two or three German only beer tastings easily.
Then there are the two guest taps, they get beers you expect to see in only the most discerning beer establishments and some that seem impossible for anyone to get. The lines are always clean, the staff is always friendly, and they always have the appropriate glass for the beer, if not a glass from the brewery.
Oh, and this is a great place to meet people. Sit at the bar and you could have a new drinking buddy in less than 30 min!

I have to say this is the best hidden gem in RC. Tucked in what looks like a place only you grandma would go it, and there are plenty that do (Make sure to say hi to the regulars on Saturday)is one of the best lunches and German beer selections you are going to find any where.
Lunch is served M-Sat and on Sat they have some sort of awesome special that Volker and/or Lothar whips up in the kitchen upstairs. Schnitzel, sauerbrauten, rouladen, pinklewurst, they are all delicious. Maryanne and the staff are sweet as can be and really make you fell at home. Go more than 2-3 times and they will know your name and what you like.
6-7 beers on tap, all German, all fresh as can be. The best German grocery store I've seen in CA and a new bar/bier garten coming soon. Volker has been hard at work.
Yes, I'm am friends and know these people now, but only from going there and seeing somebody do something so right. I can't help it I love this place.
Any fan of anything German must stop by here at some time.

Tucked away in downtown Redwood City, this unassuming little German grocery/pub probably has the best German beer selection I've ever seen in the US. The recently finished beer garden and bar pours 11 rotating taps, all German with the exception of one guest beer. Volker, the owner, does a great job with the selection; for every Spaten or Hofbrau there's something interesting and obscure, styles ranging from doppelbock to kolsch, hefeweizen to kellerbier. Taps rotate constantly, there's something new on every time I come here, which is admittedly way too often.
Prices are very reasonable, typically $5 for a half-liter, even the stronger offerings. If you've ever wondered how drunk you'd be after a liter of Vitus, now you can find out, and for a paltry $9.50. Most beers are served in their proper glassware, a detail that I appreciate. Being served a Vitus in the authentic Vitus goblet really does enhance the overall experience.
Food is decent, the selection ranging from pork sausage with potato salad to beef sausage with potato salad. Vegetarians will have to seek liquid sustenance; thankfully there's always a doppelbock or two on draft.
This place is good. Really good. I'm hard pressed to think of a drinking establishment I like more on the peninsula, and I'm glad to have it as my local watering hole. If you're in town, drop by for a liter or two.

Volker and Maryanne. They run this place, and they are very friendly, nice and hard working.
The food selection here is great. Get whatever is on special, Sauerbraten, Wiener Schnitzel, Schweine Schnitzel, Kassler Rippchen, Bratwurst, Knackwurst, Bockwurst, Jägerschnitzel Champignonsoße mit Spätzle und grünem. Great.
Fries are good. Salad is good. Brie is good. The pretzels are from Esther's bakery. They are very good. The food is comfort food, filling, tasty, and perfect for beer.
The beers are excellent. They have the best selection of German beers in the Bay Area. The only problem is if you like a certain beer you'll have to come back quite often to see it again. Luckily a high quality German is always around for each type, Kolsch, Pils, Weiss, various Bocks, sometimes a Rauchbier, always a Kostritzer, a Spaten is usually there, Hofbrau, Weihenstephaner, Weltenberger, Gaffel, Zunf, Reissdorf, Innstadt, Marhs U, Aventinus.
The guest taps are very, very good most of the time.
The bottles of beer are excellent, Rochefort, Draak, DElerium, Krieks and Lambics, Karmeleit, Bernadus, Orval.
No TV, environment is very social. Can get wildly crowded and later the bouncers are very cool Will and Bubba.
Earlier in the evening and afternoon kids are right at home here too.
If you have to drink some money at the end of a long week, this is one of the best places to do it. Relaxing, decent food, good company, good beers, very nice.

GHS is definetly a great place to come after work and grab a beer and a plate of sausage. This place has an amazing selection of germany beer in bottles and on tap, which is better than any other place ive seen. They also have been getting lots of craft beer on tap and on the shelves and have even hosted some SF beerweek events which were some of my favorites.
Beer aside the food is really good for a bar type restaurant. Thier smoked bratwursts are my favorite along with a giants pretzel with cheese and meat.
Overall I love this place, im lucky to work close by to it.

We were headed back from lunch when my Branch Manager suggested a detour. Im in!
The infamous bar where the iphone 4 was "stolen" from a patron.
Atm- Huge indoor area with a large and long L shaped bar. The right side is the harder to find German imports with the bottle list in chalk above it. On the left is the craft side. A good outside area for mingling and eating.
Quality- Holy cow? How do they get these beers here? Thats just crazy? I mean. Ive seen some good German kegs before but this is another level really.
Service- Our girl was awesome. Quick, attentive, friendly and very happy to help suggest something for us to try.
Selection- An amazing array of german beers on tap with the correct glassware. What did I go with V-I-T-U-S!!! Hell to the yeah!!
Value- Great pricing. Great beers.

Been coming here for a few years now and this place has changed a lot recently now that it's been passed down to the next generation.
Half the space (used to be more than that) is a store selling German food, beer, and trinkets. I can always get my fill of pastries and bottled beer here. There are some neat glasses and steins scattered around the store as well.
The back half of the space is the restaurant which seems to be more of a bar nowadays. They've expanded the draft list and included a couple amerikanisch Biere.
Granted I've only been visiting this plae the past 3-4 years but my mom has been going in longer than that and from what we've seen the clientelle has changed from the old guard of local Germans to a slightly younger and more diverse crowd. Not a complaint, just an interesting observation. In general the whole place is pretty laid back and friendly. The old owners as well as the new owners are super friendly and willing to hang out. Lots of good memories here and I hope they continue to become more popular.
Not quite sure how to score the selection. There are a dozen beers or so to pick from (on tap) and the food is authentic. But with German food there arent that many options, which is no fault of Gourmet Haus. Deutches Essen is all either in sausage form or schnitzel'd somehow and all side dishes include potato, mustard, kraut, and vinegar. I love it (minus the sauerkraut).
Will be back when ever in the area which seems to be a few times a year.
