I've been to Julian's a few times now. They have a very eclectic menu with some food options you wouldn't think of. It's very unique, but very good. The service is always excellent, and the atmosphere is very laid back and funky. The beer selection is outstanding. They have 9 taps and a good size bottle list. The taps are always rotating, though they seem to always have a few things on almost all the time. The past few times I've been, they had Maredsous Dubbel and Duchesse de Bourgogne. They have always had a stout, Siberian Night, Smuttynose Imperial Stout, Stone IRS. Tonight, they had Lindeman's Framboise, St. Bernardus Tripel, Stone Imperial Russian Stout, Smuttynose Maibock, Endurance Ale, Maredsous Dubbel, 60 Min IPA, Kasteel Brune, and one other I can't remember. They also have a rotating selection of special bottles and a list of bottles they always have. The waitstaff is pretty knowledgeable about the beer and the food. The prices are outstanding. I got a pint of Stone IRS for $6. The food is very reasonable and almost always excellent. If you like beer and an interesting menu, this place rocks. They have a good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes in addition to meat dishes. If you're in Providence and haven't tried it, it's a must try place for dinner. I have also heard great things about their breakfast, though I have never gone.

I went to Julians this past Saturday, which also marked the first day of Fall. There was about a fifteen minute wait, but it was well worth it. We ordered a round of beers while we waited outside at one of the tables.
We were seated at the bar area up front. I really liked the music here with selections from Bob Dylan, Van Halen & Donovan.
I counted about 16 taps with selections like Delirium Tremens, Gulden Draak, Gulden Draak Quad 9000, Berkshire Brewing Octoberfest, Racer 5, Allagash White, Goose Island Matilda, Sierra Nevada Tumbler, Schneider Weizen-Edel Weiss and many others. I started off with a Weiss and finished with a Boon Kriek Lambic. As you can see, this is an awesome selection of craft beers and a nice cross-representation of different styles and breweries. All beers are served in appropriate glassware.
The bottle is equally as impressive and way too many to list. One really cool option I noticed is they offer a Stone Old Guardian Vertical from 2006-2011 (22 oz bottles) for $150. That sounds like a good time for me and a few friends!
The food was excellent and ingredients are super fresh. They feature an eclectic menu and deliver some really tasty food. Check out the menu on their website. I had an omelet that I built myself with spinach, red onions and cheddar cheese. The home-fries were seasoned to perfection. You can tell the chefs here know what they’re doing and take pride in what they cook.
Atmosphere is really casual, with a good amount of hipsters (reminded me of Williamsburg in Brooklyn) and college aged clientele in attendance.
The bathroom is uniquely decorated with an awesome collection of G.I. Joes and a Pez collection that brought back childhood memories.
This place lived up to all expectations and highly recommended when in Providence. Julians gets it right, check it out.

Julians is my kind of place. I love the cafe feel, even though it's a bar, and the laid-back vibe. The food was exceptional, and the beer list extremely enticing. Upon my first visit this past weekend, Julians easily earned itself a place among my favorite beer bars anywhere.
My girlfriend and I were visiting Providence on a very hot Saturday, and had just grabbed a bus from Farmstead in Wayside, where we were contemplating returning for dinner, for a stop at Trinity before heading up to Julians. It was 4pm and Trinity wasn't open yet, so we trudged up the hill, and nice as the outdoor seating looked, we took refuge in Julians' empty barroom. We were told that they were between meals (okay since we thought we were just there for beer), but that we were welcome to have a seat at the bar. We were quickly off to a friendly start!
The beer I ordered (what was it now?) was gone and they were in the process of updating their menu for the evening, so our bartender recommended doing a 4-beer sampler flight. While enjoying the samples, we noticed someone writing some very interesting specials on the chalkboard next to our stools. As the barroom slowly filled, we reconsidered our planned trek back across town for dinner, and ordered a round of full-size beers.
As the kitchen staff began preparing food for dinner right behind the bar, we knew we'd be sticking around. Torn between several entree specials, I ended up settling on the slider special--a threesome of pulled pork, smoked salmon and bacon sliders--which was insanely good.
I loved the funky vibe of this place, and especially the laid-back cafe feel. And I loved the beer and service. But I especially loved the food--the menu here was probably the most inventive I've seen at any beer bar. The combination of all those things, though, made Julians incredible. I can't wait to visit it again.

I discovered Julians through a post in the forum. Super!
I went for afternoon drinks, so I can't post about the food.
There is no AC, but no problem. The Staff is great, and the beer selection is perhaps better than a lot of Boston area pubs I been in.
The servers are very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is hipster. Any craft beer drinker would feel comfortable there.
I had a Saison Du Pont. There were a lot of other excellent craft beers on tap, their bottle menu is excellent, and their whiskey selection is first rate.
They also have brewery dinners, such as the Firestone Walker dinner. Check the web site for details.
If you are in Providence, this is the place to go.

I have already reviewed Julian's a couple of times, but each time I go I feel it is worthy of another review because I love this place so much. I went yesterday during the day and was delighted to see the many vegan options on the chalkboard. As usual, atmosphere was very laid-back and relaxed and the staff were very friendly.
There were a lot of changes to the beer selection since my last visit to Julian's and I was happy to try some Belgian beers from breweries I hope to visit on an upcoming trip to Belgium. I was able to try a variety of exceptional beers that I'd never tried before in a beer sampler. They had some great beers on-tap and a good bottle selection too.
Julian's is an exceptional place all-around!

Beer: The craft selections here are amazing and delightful. I would be surprised if you could find some of them anywhere else in New England.
Food: Tremendous. Not stuffy or pretentious, just creative and delicious. I realize whenever we come here how much awful food I eat to justify going to "good beer" places. It's not cheap but the value is great.
Service: I've never had a bad experience here, even though it is always packed to the gills. I came from NYC, so maybe I am used to this state of affairs when it seems to put other folks on edge. If you don't like crowds go on a weekday and get there early.
Don't hate on the hipsters. They put TVs in the bathrooms.

Julians a cool funky place in Providence that has good food matched with good beer. The hipster vibe is in full effect here and it shows in the servers and atmosphere. I like the food , the beers and especially the bathroom with the tv playing He-Man episodes, I just wish the service was better. I definitely recommend this place but just be prepared for an exercise in patience. The draft selection is probably the best in the city and the bottle list is decent too. The menu has a lot of vegetarian and vegan options for people that practice those diets. Lot of funky knick knacks and sign age make this a fun spot to have a beer.

Visited this place a few days ago for the first time. If every better beer bar/restaurant were this good what a wonderful world this would be. One of the best combinations of good food and good beer I've ever seen.
But the place was not perfect. Some of the waitstaff was a bit too surly. And there were strange seating rules. We were waiting for a table and got kicked off the bar because other patrons who arrived after us were going to eat dinner at the bar. And we, being a party of 3, couldn't take an open table with six chairs because it was reserved for 5 or more. So we had to wait 20 minutes until a lone diner at a table with 4 chairs finished. I don't get the math...
Still the beer selection was top notch. They used appropriate glassware and gave smaller pours (a growing trend that I prefer - you get to try a wider selection without getting tanked). And the food was even better - great vegetarian selections!
If you don't mind a heavy "hipster vibe" and you want great beer and food in Providence - don't miss this place.
